Is the Relic trias actually that good? According to this, with my current setup it is doing pretty high damage. This list is all the IG I like the look of and will use, I went with the obsidian/trias but is this actually an accurate representation of the damage or is there a better option? I've already adjusted them for the 30% affinity boost from the speed kinsect.

If you haven't already, take the time to make the Entora (should be one of the first sets in the list, looks like a priest/nun) set for a new G armor.

It may not look like much but the extra defense and more importantly the free Guren armor gems will give you some very nice starting into G skills.
G monsters don't mess around like Fury (Adren + True Guts).

On that note, I'll ask again: Is it possible to convert a MHG save to MHX, so I don't have to replay it again, and can convert it to MHXX when it comes out? I didn't play X, I wated till Gen had come out for US. ( also CFW on N3DS at the time was a crapshot ). Now that I've beaten Gen though, and XX is due shortly enough, I wanted to be able to take my Gen stuff into XX so I didn't hold back too hard with my JP friends. But unless I convert down, that's not an option. Anyone got any solutions?

No idea if TW has it, but there should be a stamp card/achievement/tutorial thing that has set requirements ranging from "Reach X HR" or more special things like hunting specific monsters.

Right at G you can start on a series of those where you have to create Entora armor, then take a Guren G Chest piece and upgrade it to GF rank lv7 (They give you all the Guren pieces from earlier steps in this process thankfully, you'll still need Cephadrome and other simple guys), then you get to learn the joys of G rank and melting down armor to make gems.

In the end you'll end up with 10 of these gems, which is a really good boost right out the gate.
It's not required thankfully, since I only learned about them way after they would have been useful, but it makes the early steps easier.

Each Guren GF gem gives +2 Strong Attack, +3 Expert and +2 Fury.

So with all 10 it's Strong Attack +3 (+50 True Raw), Critical Eye +3, and Livid (True Guts + Adrenaline +2). Which all in all is quite handy to give you more punch against G monsters. Stack that up with G weapons and you'll start to feel the difference in power.

The whole thing is your tutorial on how melting down armor pieces into gems works, which is the major parts of building sets at G. You have to take any G rank piece, upgrade it to lv7, then you get the option to convert it into a single slot gem.
GF is stronger than the base G, and GX (the third rank) is even better than that and gets a 4th skill based on what armor piece it is (helm/chest/so on).
So end game sets are not only 5 pieces of fully upgraded armor, but then usually 15(!) other armor pieces upgraded and melted down into gems.

As for G rank progression, you don't have much to worry about honestly. Most of the content is unlocked right at GR 1, only exotics being behind GR 500 and eventually Zenith with GR 200/400/600/800.

It's classified in game as a ??? because initially the guild didn't have a fucking clue what it was and it didn't fit into any existing creature classification, once they knew it was a juvenile elder dragon it should've been changed. Capcom are just lazy inconsistent hacks so didn't bother.

Honestly it should've been classed as an elder dragon from the get go anyway since it was clearly capable of causing widespread ecological devastation via the frenzy virus, which is pretty much the main qualifier for the huge miscellaneous classification that is elder dragons.

I guess those 3 don't trash entire ecosystems, it's a hella big crab and it's going to fuck the town but it probably has its place in the wild, hell even its lao shell is probably acquired from a dragon graveyard or something and akantor and ukanlos seem to hang out in the middle of bumfuck nowhere and are quite happy to stay there eating lava/ fish/other smaller monsters or whatever the fuck they eat.

Ceadeus nearly sank an entire island trying to scratch its eye though and Dalamadur literally eats mountains so that's probably why they are elder dragons. Kirin is the only weird one for me. Sure it's hella strong and apparently hates humans with a burning passion. But it's capacity for widespread chaos and destruction seems pretty low.
