How fares your empire, /gsg/?

This day in history, January 22nd:
1517 – Ottoman forces defeated the Egyptian Mamluk army in the Battle of Ridaniya and brought the severed head of the last Mamluk sultan Tuman bay II into Cairo.
1689 – The Convention Parliament convened to justify the overthrow of James II, the last Roman Catholic King of England, who had vacated the throne when he fled to France in 1688.
1969 – Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev survived an assassination attempt, an incident that was not revealed to the public until after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Working on creating a mod with a new start date and could use some help - what do I need to change to be able to actually choose a country at the start menu? I've created the bookmark and description and have tweaked some province history files and the date in the given country's history file yet I still can't click on anything.

Does anyone know any good Geheimnisnacht starts or goals?

I united the empire and once I took Estalia as a Bretonnian.
I have also tried playing as the vampire count in the middle of Bretonnia, the one vampire who doesn't have a name for some reason.
Vampire knights are OP as fuck, and the basic strategy is to keep hoarding them and always stick to the event spawned troops at the beginning.
But I lost too many of them after conquering half of Bretonnia and that meant game over for me.

Now I have trouble finding any good starts, some seem too defensive to expand at all, and others are simply too underpowered and get eaten up immediately.

They're probably a vassal of France, the bottom one is an old screenshot which was done manually through the console while the top one is recent and the province allocation was done through a decision. Not really asking about borders, the top screenshot has a slightly darker overlay to it, just comparing aesthetics.

Behold, one of the new additions coming soon to Version 10 of the pack.

As one anon recommended, I made a flag for a monarchist United Provinces should it be formed by a Juan Manuel de Rosas led Argentine Kingdom.

At the front you can see the red cockade, symbol of the Rosas regime, defaced with the Sun of May. Two scepters cross behind them (taken and slightly modified from Napoleon's CoA), over a white cross to symbolize Christianity (Rosas was a very pious person, often referring to the Argentine Confederation as "The Holy Confederation"), with a purple background, like the original flag of the Argentine Confederation.

The one you had in the old thread was pretty based, pasted it in as my new one.

All I'm saying is that the Silver Legion was a German-puppet organisation. It got all of its funds from there so its unlikely that it'd be -the- independent fascism movement of the US. It's not a bad flag either, but even if the SLA took power, they'd probably adopt some element of American patriotism.

I just spent half an hour looking into the Silver Legion.

Don't worry anon, I will make the flag. It's just that I want it to look perfect and inspiration hasn't struck me yet. My main issue is that I can't make a symbol too complex or big otherwise I won't be able to put it in a "blue field plus red and white stripes" configuration, which is a must.

It will include the eagle and the fasces, both symbols extensively used by the USA, but I gotta find the optimal design configuration and make it work in vicky size.

>>166311869
I decided to use the Sun of the Argentinian Army instead because I wanted it to look qualitatively different from the other Argentine flags. This is no longer just another Argentina, but an Empire, sure, founded by Argentinians, but that trascends Argentina itself plus I like how it looks more than I liked how the regular sun looked so I ain't changing it.

t bh any nation outside the Mediterrean, specially those nations that labeled all Mediterreans as subhumans and worthy of nothing but social exclusion/subjugation, having a faeces on their flag is as cringy as it gets. During the 1840s, after zombiesm will have already hit Persia, I plan on having he Babism faith become a major religion in the area, it already was growing fast and an apocalyptic event that the normal religious leaders have no control over would make it grow exponentially. Eventually the Persians will either accept Babism or try to execute the Bab, at which point he will flee to Azerbaijan and start a civil war against the Persian Empire.

I want two flags, one for Azerbaijan under the Bab, and one for Persia after accepting the faith or getting conquered during the civil war.

Make sure to use only Babist symbolism and stuff if you want to make the flags, Baha'i wasn't around at that point and I shouldn't have mentioned it as part of the flag

Eh, I don't want to go too memey on the alt-history. I normally would only do stuff thats kind of plausible in the scope of the mod. I actually really want to allow the Ottomans to rediscover greek fire and use it during the apocalypse based on this:
>In the 19th century, it is reported that an Armenian by the name of Kavafian approached the government of the Ottoman Empire with a new type of Greek fire he claimed to have developed. Kavafian refused to reveal its composition when asked by the government, insisting that he be placed in command of its use during naval engagements. Not long after this, he was poisoned by imperial authorities, without their ever having found out his secret

The two stars or haykals represent Bahá'u'lláh and the Báb, and that specific five pointed star is also the main symbol of Babism. I didn't use the star alone itself in this flag because I have something to that effect planned for Azerbaijan.

I read it and while I get it there is something to consider, mapuche arent patagnonian, in fact, mapuche actually subjugated the patagonian natives after the europeans arrived since the zone wasnt colonized and forced them to use their language, as happened to the Tehuelche
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araucanization_of_Patagonia
So due to the used reasoning, the tehuelche flag would be more sensical to use. Plus from my experience in patagonia, people there generally relate more to the tehuelche.

If so why shouldnt the mapuche flag be the republic flag? After all such project would by its mere foundation seek to eliminate foreign colonial influence and people, it would be a ethno-state as a republic, or in any shape really, if that wasnt what the mapuche sought the project wouldnt have happened after all.

Not necessarily. Take the Boer States for example. When they set themselves up as non colonial, autonomous states, they didn't kick out the Dutch/Boer, since they were the ruling elite anyway.
A Republic of Patagonia would probably be similar. A European class which would probably dominate politics, with the mass of Mapuche being the rest of society. I'm not talking about minority rule, but close.
That's of course assuming the Republic didn't came about through violent Mapuche revolution, but that seems unlikely since the King seemed to have good relations with the natives anyway.

I doubt anything short of a fascist dictatorship would kick out the white population from the land forcibly.

"Unwelcome" is more correct and unwelcomed isn't formally correct, but according to some dictionaries at least it is a word.
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/unwelcomed
It's under related forms with a couple of examples - not that it means much, since even native speakers (or perhaps, especially native speakers) seem to be increasingly incapable of using their own language correctly.

>spic / slavshit
Irrelevant and also incorrect.

>wants to believe /gsg/ loves anime
I don't particularly care what /gsg/ loves and I care even less what "t. /gsg/" loves, since the fact that you're not even using /gsg/ as a whole implies you think only "people who agree with me" are acceptable i.e. you want a hugbox. Tumblr seems to be more your speed, although they probably don't agree with your ideologies.

dictionary.com is hardly an obscure site, and I did admit that it's not formally correct.

>the fact that you said irrelevant first proves I'm right
Is this some sort of retarded attempt at internet cold reading or something? Because no, you're quite incorrect. I imagine in fact if I told you what I am I'd see even more hatred than you reserve for spic / slavshit, and no I'm not a nigger.

>Wanting a community to discuss grand strategy, not ebin space games, is not wanting a hugbox,
Oh yes it is. Aurora and DW have been in the infopic for far longer than you have existed on this website, and in your attempts to purge "everything I personally dislike" from the thread you become no different from someone who potentially attempts to kick out Victoria and DH for being old or whatever retarded reason they could come up with.

>furthermore it is your refusal to stay on your >>>/a/ containment quarter
Technically speaking, /a/ is not the containment quarter - /v/, and therefore also /vg/, were containment for the threads that were starting to crop up on /a/. I get what you're trying to say and I agree that trying to actually discuss anime should get purged, but if you're going to explode against anime reaction pictures then you might reconsider your continued existence, since even (or maybe especially) Trumpfags on /pol/ dump anime pictures in vast quantities to the point of distraction.

>that proves "hugboxes" are needed, if only to get away from people like you.
And now he admits all he wants is a hugbox. I personally don't know where you might find one - tumblr isn't suitable - but I'm sure they exist. Go on then, shoo.

Well, you claimed it isn't a word, so I started wondering if it is in fact a word, so I put it in google and it turns out, MeWeb and Oxford don't have it but Dictionary does for some reason. That's why I said it's not formally correct but is obviously in common enough usage if it made it onto other major dictionary sites.

I don't, if my post didn't make that clear enough. The implication is that you do. In fact, /pol/ has had a steady amount of animeposting forever (which makes sense considering what the original audience of the entire website was) so...

>Magnificent
Aren't I? Bow before my magnificent self. Also, if you want more anime reaction pictures you don't need to write up a wall of text for it. If you want to write up a wall of text it may be a good idea to not dodge most of what I say, and avoid making mistakes like politically charging an argument after you attacked someone else for their perceived attempt at politically charging the discussion.

As it were, I'd say you're more "leftist" than I am (presuming by leftist, you meant liberal in the SJW sense) - you attempt to shut down all things you personally do not agree with by taking some absurd form of the moral high ground instead of reasoned arguments - because of course, you don't have any, reaction pictures are the same where ever they come from.

Under Catholicism you can do the exact same thing, then go to "confession" and be forgiven.

Besides, "works" and "faith" are both extremely vague terms.

Christianity is a clusterfuck to begin with. The man says he's here because he loves us and turns around to say in fact he's here to deliver not peace but sword, he says that the Father is greater than I explicitly but apparently the Son and the Father are completely equal, etc. etc.

I was gonna write an autistic paragraph on the actual job of the Pope, but here's the short version.

Peter was chosen to lead the church, his successors also lead said church. His successors don't necessarily have to be perfect, they just lead the church. The Pope isn't a God or anything, he's a bishop.

>>
>>166342778
Catholicism has always thrived by playing the long game. The most successful catholic orders converted people as the Romans did, allowing a synthesis of folk tradition with Christian practice as long as the people identified as Christian and Catholic first. Over centuries folk traditions die out or become marginalized as superstition, because they lack centralization and leadership to preserve them. The Church has those things, so there is always someone at the helm to keep it going. It also has a permanent written tradition that can't easily be lost.

The current pope is in expansion mode. He conquers the hearts and minds of non-believers and invites the lapsed back into the fold. In a few decades the Church will turn conservative again to consolidate its gains and make them permanent. Since Catholicism is generally passed down through families, any permanent members they inspire now will go on to sire generations of future Catholics, and the future Catholicism they practice can be suitably adjusted by any future pope as needed.

There's a reason this institution that survived the fall of Rome has been around for literally thousands of years.

Infallibility was only made a thing in the 19th century you epic member, and it's only able to be used regarding theological doctrine. I think it's been used like twice as well, over something to do with Mary

Before the 19th century the role of pope was as a bishop (and ruler of the Papal States). Nobody ever claimed they were demigods lad
>>
>>166343590
You don't do that by kow-towing to a replacement population invading your country. You aren't seeing a mass conversion of Islam to Catholicism because of this, you're seeing an increasingly Islamified Europe on top of the still increasing Atheistic natives, both of whom mock the church by making it suck up to and compromise itself for them.
>>
>>166343590
>Over centuries folk traditions die out or become marginalized as superstition
They most certanily did not, nowhere near as much as people think they have, fuck's sake even during the Renaissance old gods and old heroes turned up en-masse
Hercules / Heracles is far more well known than St. Peter, Medusa is just as famous as Beelzebub, Achilles and Brynhildr are far more well known than St. Paul and St. Martha, and half of Christian folklore is lifted from Pagan lore.

Wow it's almost like having the freedom to change your mind and do good Christian works (and have God's forgiveness if you do so wholeheartedly and ask for it) is a key tenet of Catholicism.

Kinda miss some combat mechanics from eu3.

>Eu3
Cavalry takes double penalties from terrain, different amount of cav depending on where you're fighting
>Pre-HTTT
Cavalry moved faster, can dedicate an army to chasing down
>Pre-DW
no combined arms, can have an army of full cav without any specific penalty

Now with no combat width modifiers from terrain there's not much to the combat in eu4.

Christian feast days are literally just events scheduled on a calendar. The ancient jews didn't even use the Gregorian calendar, so obviously feast days that recall biblical events are not anniversaries of those events in the modern calendrical sense. In case you haven't noticed, Christmas has completely replaced sun-worship as a late December holiday. Nobody except atheists who are specifically rebelling against mainstream Christianity celebrates pagan holidays or astronomical events over Christmas. Even non-Christians think of Dec 25 as Christmas.

>>166343973
Nobody worships Hercules, buddy. And yet in half the countries in the world, you could find some old grandma who would bend her ancient back until it breaks to bow down to St Peter if he appeared before her.

"Pagan lore" has become "mythology" in the Christian world. It's not a competing religion. "Christian folklore" is understood by anthropologists as the preserved remnant of the substrate onto which Christianity was laid down. But as you've noticed, no one (except the aforementioned edgy wiccans etc. who just do the opposite of whatever their Christian parents tell them to do) actually believes in "folklore" and "myths" the way some people believe in Christ. In Europe and other places, Christianity has completely supplanted the old religions even as the knowledge of what those old believers taught persists.

>In Europe and other places, Christianity has completely supplanted the old religions even as the knowledge of what those old believers taught persists.
You don't get it. The knowledge is all that really matters. If Islamists began teaching all the same shit that Christians taught but in Arabic or whatever, then there'd fundamentally be no difference besides that language or whatever. The reason you dislike them is because in fact they DON'T teach the same things.
My point is that, with the immense influence of pagan lore and philosophy on christian lore and philosophy (which was originally mostly not influenced), when you worship 'Christ' and learn about the religion you're actually learning about an amalgamation of pagan and christian myths, and the soft cultural influence that pagan myths and teaching has persists.

Religion is not itself somehow special compared to mythology, it's simply a more formalized form. The mythology itself continues to exert undeniable influence, far more than pure Christianity - most of the most memeworthy demons and stories are just pagan myths that have slowly worked their way in or demonizations of pagan deities.

>Worship is irrelevant
You are clearly an atheist. You are not approaching this discussion in good faith if you say worship is irrelevant to the Catholic Church and the Pope.

>If Islamists began teaching all the same shit that Christians taught but in Arabic
You never will, but if you tried reading a Qur'an you'd discover that they do exactly this (and then teach a bunch of Muhammadean stuff on top of that).

>you're actually learning about an amalgamation of pagan and christian myths, and the soft cultural influence that pagan myths and teaching has persists
This is the strength of the centralization of the Catholic Church. Protestants are overwhelmingly more susceptible to this (that's why every Protestant denomination is a state church, a spinoff of a state church, or a regional church in the US) because they don't have the ability to purge their theology and even their history from time to time like Catholics do.

>Religion is not itself somehow special compared to mythology, it's simply a more formalized form.
I can see that you haven't studied anthropology or religion at all. "Formalized forms" of religion, also known as "literate religions" (like Christianity and Islam) are actually quite special indeed compared to endemic religions (such as the animist substrate found everywhere people live) because they have a higher degree of centralization and a corpus of holy text. This allows them, among other advantages, to be shared by people of different ethnicities (why there are so many more Christians and Muslims today than Jews, zoroastrians, pagans of any kind, etc.), to survive political and cultural changes (Christianity survived the fall of the Roman empire and Islam survived the collapse of the Caliphate, but they also spread beyond the borders of their original empires and were adopted by people outside of their original audience, like the Nestorian Christians in India).

>This is the strength of the centralization of the Catholic Church
Which is why they have massive numbers of saints and folk stories anyway right? It might not be in the doctrine, but the number of "Christian" folk stories you can hear from Catholic families is insane.

You haven't either or at least hve failed reading comprehension. To give an example of why you're retarded, there are atheists or people who subscribe to unrelated religions but have good knowledge of Christian myths nonetheless because to them it's an interesting story - a set of myths, similar to what Christians would view pagan myths as, except they've managed to incorporate many traditions outright.

>Zoroastrians
You do realize that the Zoroastrians have a sacred text right? You know - the Avesta? It kind of undermines your point?

>the reason why
The reason why Christianity and Islam spread so far and well is because it provides a massive (infinite, in fact) carrot that is easy to obtain, a massive stick that can be easily avoided, and a sense of absolute justice that is waiting on the other side - something supremely lacking in many older religions.

How is it relevant to the discussion? My point was always that the "original religions" never died out. Getting sidelined means shit-all - many originally christian thoughts got sidelined as heresies and died out anyway. They might no longer be religions but they exercise considerable influence anyway solely due to their continued existence as mythologies and legends, and changed forms into "Christian" storis. That's all that matters.

You accused me of "disliking them" and then said their teachings are "the problem." Just to recap, we haven't had any kind of real discussion about Islam, you have just tried to be contrarian by posing "gotcha" scenarios that don't make sense.

>other points
Lad, the liquor is wearing off and so is my patience. Let me quickly sum it up. The fact that you and other edgy atheists see Christian traditions as equivalent to "mythology" doesn't make that true in the real world. Christian thought has real power, and there are actual living people who can exercise and direct that power. This is not the case for lore that has been displaced to the realm of "mythology."
Zoroastrianism is not a "world religion" that invites converts from any culture, it is a small, ethnically homogeneous sect represented natively in one country and as a tradition preserved by emigrants from that country in two or three others.
The special characteristics held by both Christianity and Islam that you identify are not a meaningless coincidence. If you were a student of the study of religion you would understand that belief systems are subject to something like "evolution:" when they don't fit, they change. Crafting a belief system that can survive in recognizable form in any environment is not trivial, but it was also not the goal of ancient shamans and spiritual leaders. "Primitive" religions die out as their adherents become assimilated into larger structures in which the original belief system cannot survive. The literate religions of the Iron Age became popular in a time when the world was getting smaller, so their ability to be exported and easily adopted by foreign people was key to their success.

Mostly among women and slaves, i.e. the lowest classes, although crucially also among soldiers as well. Of course, by the time of Christianity Roman soldiers were mostly Germanic mercenaries who were ethnically marginal within the Empire. Thus, the all-inclusive message of Christianity and the promises of a great reward based on piety accessible to all (rather than the ability to participate in invite-only religious functions or to make expensive sacrifices to the gods) was very attractive to those marginalized groups of people. Constantine brought it above ground, which was equally important to its longevity of course (although it probably would've happened eventually anyway).

No. That's not what I'm saying, my point is that it isn't the fucking name that's relevant but the teachings within. Faith is something that is born from the teachings, not the other way around.

>so is my patience
I don't care about your patience, if you run out then leave.

>Christian thought has real power, and there are actual living people who can exercise and direct that power
You mean as an ideology? Of course, I never said that isn't true.

>This is not the case for lore that has been displaced to the realm of "mythology."
You never fucking understood my point - that lore that has been displaced to the realm of mythology is only PART of the lore that has survived, the rest has survived as part of your religion proper. And even though they no longer survive as an ideological power, they surely have soft cultural power, which is non-negligible.

>The fact that you and other edgy atheists see Christian traditions as equivalent to "mythology" doesn't make that true in the real world
I only called it mythology to showcase what I mean by mythology exercizing influence anyway. The Church could disappear in flames tomorrow and you'd still have believers, and even if nobody believed you'd still have cultural influence in massive quantities. NOBODY claimed that pagan religions have influence as a religion, stop thinking that is what I'm saying.

>Zoroastrianism is not a "world religion" that invites converts from any culture
Yet it is literate, which undermines your point of literate religions as opposed to pagan illiterate ones. Zoroastrianism's core tenants of Good vs. Evil, and even a pseudo-heaven and pseud-hell, are hardly nonexportable, but they never made the effort, much like Judaism never did. Christianity and Islam succeeded because they did export those global themes.

>An atheist has a vested interest in
A true atheist has no vesting interest in any form of religion since they don't, by definition, believe in any. I'm not really an atheist though.

>making Christianity appear to be equivalent to other religions that are no longer practiced.
You have to kind of specify what is meant by equivalent here because I think it's a trap. I don't find Christianity to be literally the same as any religion, nor any religion literally the same as any other, since they're literally not the same. That being said, you might argue that they're 'the same' in being fundamentally a worldview and worldsystem. Christianity rises above paganism by being personal and also by providing clear and written guides on how to live and practise your faith, but is not special for doing so - Zoroastrianism, a near - dead faith, does much the same. It is exclusive and makes other gods invalid by definition, but is not special in that way either. It has morality guidelines as well as concepts of an afterlife and worldsystem, which is shared by almost all religions. It has an organizing structure and is not special for that either. It has 'spread this stuff' as one of its tenets and is not special for that. It is relatively special for having all of these together.

Muhammad used the already wildly successful Christian teachings as a basis for his cult, because he recognized that very fact. Too bad there will never be a "rise of islam" Paradox game.

>the rest has survived as part of your religion
Only the parts that were specifically selected. Just as Muhammad preserved some Christian teachings because he recognized their power, some of the Bishops preserved local folk traditions that were compatible with and useful to Christianity. To use the Christmas example, since Jesus doesn't really have a birthday in the Julian or Gregorian calendar, they used an astronomically important time of year that was already well known as a time of celebration to help their converts understand the significance of Christ. It sends the message that the Birth of Christ was to humanity what the return of the sun was to their primitive agrarian ancestors (i.e., without it, their lives would surely end).

>Yet it is literate
The Jewish religion is also based on a literate tradition. Yet it is not a faith of converts and the conquered. Academically Zoroastrianism and Judaism are both recognized as crucial precursors to the dominant near-eastern religions, not least because of their incremental development of monotheism. Hinduism and Buddhism (and Jainism), the relations between them, and their relations with local folk religions in South and Southeast Asia also make for a fascinating case study, although that also goes to show how the patterns we are discussing with regard to Christianity and Islam are not the only possibility.

And that is a lot of shit in and of itself
Fuck's sake, when people think "angel" today, what do they think of? They think of what amount to valkyries and winged prettyboys, and while Christianity originally allowed for this as well, there is absolutely no thought or connection to things like, say, Sandalphon who stands something really absurd like four million miles tall.

>The Jewish religion is also based on a literate tradition. Yet it is not a faith of converts and the conquered. Academically Zoroastrianism and Judaism are both recognized as crucial precursors to the dominant near-eastern religions, not least because of their incremental development of monotheism.
So what is your point even? Because I'm slowly getting the impression that we're not even talking about the same thing. My point is that paganism has had a massive influence on Christianity and therefore also Western Europe despite being almost completely dead in all relevant areas a thousand years ago and exerted and exerts influence even in areas where it was no longer directly relevant by 500 AD. This is evidently not what you are trying to refute.

Sorry, I didn't mean "it's not a coincidence that Christianity and Islam both have them," I meant that it's not a coincidence that those useful characteristics developed and succeeded in particular times and places. See my "evolution" argument.

World religions are fundamentally different from endemic folk traditions, tribal religions, etc. EU3 kind of gets it right in the sense that Catholicism, Sunnism, etc. are treated very differently from Animism/Shamanism, which are obviously not unified religions (i.e. Aztec will never defend Kongo even if they are "defender of the animist faith" or whatever), although I think CK2's paganism system has been overly influenced by the desires of edgy redditors to convert the whole world to Norse paganism etc.

Started up a 1590 game to see if you can fight with only cav as poland and ignore the military tactics bonus.

Added steppes provinces for the cossacks and changed the idea groups to espionage+quality+aristocratic for a 93% cav combat bonus.

As time goes on it'll be more painful, with rougher firing phases and more artillery

Probably have to stay within ratio then, but have more cav than just for flanking.

Well folk religions and traditions were never an actual 'religion' in the sense of being organized to begin with, they're like just this general story that everyone in the region recognizes and knows about and generally follows along with, like of like if Cinderalla and Red Riding Hood had temples to them. Everyone knows who they are, everyone knows the stories, everyone tells the kids the stories, but it's not organized, there's no Cinderella II who controls the Cult of Cinderella
That said though, the Roman "religion", despite not really being a consolidated thing, kind of had a leadership and semi-organization going on, esp. with their emphasis on rituals being done on time.

As I explained, Islam is a special kind of newer development in religion that sets up specific rules to make itself (or certain parts of itself) inviolate. Religions like Islam and Christianity are designed (or, if you prefer, have been naturally selected) to preserve themselves and their power at all costs. They are endowed with structures that can chose whether to bend in the wind or stand upright. Animistic religions can't survive environmental changes (you can't really worship the god who makes the Nile flood at the same time every year if you live by a different river) and Shamanistic religions can't survive sociopolitical changes.

That's just playing as horde though.

You don't get the better polish ideas for cav bonus, you don't get the cossack estate since it is tied to your tech group and religion(must be christian and in the eastern, hordes have to be in the nomad tech group).

Hordes get a flatland(grassland, farmland, steppe, desert, drylands, Not Savannah btw) bonus, but they also get a penalty on everything else.

And as a horde your country is much less stable and you have a harder time earning money.

Zaporozhies ideas aren't very good. When it comes to horde I think it's Manchu>Horde/Khazan>Zaporozhie

>folk religions and traditions were never an actual 'religion' in the sense of being organized to begin with
Yes, I completely agree in fact. Folk traditions and the modern meaning of "religion" (typified by world religions) are totally different in kind. The development of world religions like Christianity was a huge innovation compared to what had existed in most of the world before.

Unfortunately I do not think Paradox games simulate this well, particularly CK2. It presents pagan religions as more or less equivalent to Christianity and Islam. I've never played in India but I bet it handles that shit poorly too.

>the Roman "religion", despite not really being a consolidated thing, kind of had a leadership and semi-organization going on
Yes, I think the Roman religion functioned more like a hegemony. Since the Roman people actually did rule over many other ethnicities from their center of power in Rome, they were able to use legalism to project some of their "local traditions" onto a much wider area than usually possible. This too could be viewed as an important precursor to the conditions that allowed for the rise of Christianity, although the interaction with Greek mysticism complicates things somewhat.

Islam changed and adapted a lot in the decades immediately after Muhammad's death. That's why it was able to survive the death of its prophet, leader, and conqueror. That's also why there isn't just one sect of Islam today (in the consolidation after periods of change some groups get left out).
After the conquest period Islam had less need to change, although there has been an ebb and flow of certain ideas over centuries (sufism, wahhabism).

Gave the Knights a head start and a rule of anyone they vassalize they auto integrate. Then I let them lose on this. 5 years have passed since I have and a series of 4 people ganging up on them (Byzantine died in the middle) makes them pretty much a goner. Something I might try for a coop, but poland is too powerful of a nation to play in coop, so would pick another eastern tech group country and then form poland.

Or go for nomad tech group poland and disregard the 20% cav combat from cossacks for full tactics, it takes some time to do though.

I'm not knowledgeable enough about Islam to say whether it still has the capacity to "bend" or not (in a few centuries we will find out--it will either conquer the world, die out, or change itself to become able to coexist again). But that doesn't "invalidate" the idea at all. Religions that are designed to be flexible can become inflexible exactly because they have the flexibility to change. If they changed themselves to become unchangeable, that proves they had the capacity for change.

If you don't have enough infantry(depending on your tech group) you get a penalty to your military tactics.

In the previous screenshot as poland I had a -25% to my tactics modifier since the eastern tech group can only have up to 60% cav, while teh army was 100% cav.

By full tactics I meant, no military tactics penatly since those in the nomad tech group can have up to 100% cav.
