If you can get the rank the imperial courier is a great choice. Strong shields plus 3 medium hardpoints make it a good fighter. It still counts as multipurpose ship so it can be built for other trades if that's what you want.

the DBS is a tiny piece of shit (for whoever is shooting at it) that is probably the best fighter in its class thanks to its great speed, agility, perfect hardpoint placement and superior amount of utility mounts. Kinda shit shields but that's par for the course at that size

the vulture fits in the same category except it has way too much shields and firepower for its size

The more I listen to the fanbase, the more I see how persistent universe and complex physics are incompatible with competitive play.

E-sport games are made of games that are very deterministic with nothing left to chance, only to skill or statistic at best (like knowing 50 or 60% damage). The simplicity of their physics engines reduce lag, miscalculation & bugs.
Finally, those game tend to be all symmetrical, a team can suck but they always aim for equal potential.
You never get character class that are only meant to help other get points.

The FAS is basically the Vulture's big brother and costs quite a bit more to kit out. Saving up for just a stock one won't serve you very well. Better to get something usable now and upgrade to it later.

A-ranking a ship typically costs several times the stock purchase price. If you only have 9mil then you can't even properly outfit a Vulture (20-22mil to A-rank).

You CAN A-rank a Courier for 9mil and getting to Master doesn't take long at all running missions in the Empire.

The Vulture's main advantage over the courier is that its large hardpoints don't have their damage reduced vs tougher targets. So it's more specialized towards taking down bigger game by dancing around them and punching holes in their engines/power plants.

Start out with bounty hunting in a high resource extraction site (you can find these my looking for planets with asteroid belts). What you want to do is wait for the security ships to attack wanted ships, then make sure you get a least a few shots on the wanted ship so you can steal the bounty. High res will earn you a lot of money quickly, but be careful as you're still in a sidewinder and will die quickly if a ship targets you. DO NOT attack ships if they are in a wing.

Once you have a good amount of money decide what trade you want to take up. There are plenty of cheap ships that will be starters for certain trades. Decide what suits you and start earning some credits.

I don't know, I think there's something to do with all this stuff. You could say that a space station would cost between 100M to 1B according the size and its place in the galaxy and then the system, and it would benefit your guild/alliance/faction/whateveryounameit. Ofc it would require a few players to finance it and everytime people park on it, buy on it etc. would give your alliance a percentage. You would be able to collect stuff to your station, do missions to improve it, improve it with money, etc.
You would also have to make sure people is with your alliance by doing missions, and other guilds would be able to do missions on your station or solar system to upset people and eventually create some revolts, war or whatever and eventually raid your station to steal stuff from it.

There's a fuckton of space stations in the game, no point on creating new ones. Just make sure that not everyone can buy one with an high price, which would require a lot of people to buy it.


I think that would be the great part of this kind of system, to involve a few people working together, doing missions together for their benefits, and this would open a lot of quests to do within a group.


But I think you should permit some people to create their own space shop on those earth that are just useless. At first it would be a building with 1 dock that you would be able to buy (buy a pre existing one or put it where you want), and then you would be able to add more dock, more building and decide what you want to sell and you would have to bring them to your shop and manage it.
That would require the game to simulate NPC coming to your station once in a while, and manage how many people would come according the population of the system, and how big is your shop so you would make some benefits.

oh, well, the factions in the game are the federation, empire, alliance and some independent factions. basically some part of space are within their control and the idea is that you can get involve in a faction, do some shitty missions (grind) for them to expend their power and eventually defend (grind) some systems from changing ownership.
The system is broken (or maybe they fixed it, it's been a while that this bug exist) so it's pointless to get involve in this shit.
This faction system is just here for more grind. Some anon should correct me if I'm wrong tho, I tried it a few hours and stopped it when I realised it wasn't fun and added nothing of value to the game.

an idea for a multipurpose build that doesn't completely suck at combat. Don't forget to set up your power priorities unless you want a total system failure when you deploy your weapons.

Git gud at using these railguns and you'll love them because one small railgun does more DPS than one large beam. Lots of distributor draw tho, can be a drawback on small ships. Consider swapping for FIXED beams. Seriously if you use anything else than fixed hitscan weapons I wil personally track you down and murder you for failure at gitting gud. Gimballed kinetics are fine if you're not *that* gud and/or lazy like me

the one flaw of the viper IV is that it's so much slower and less agile than the Viper III it's worse in combat compared to all other ships in the class, even the Cobra III. If you have one for free, use it, it's a good ship to gid gud because it forces you to use FAOFF maneuvers and vertical/lateral thrusters in combat

I feel like the Controller modules should function like the hangars and bays. You purchase the Master Controller Bay that takes up 1 Internal Optional of your choice, then you purchase the individual Control Modules that fit inside of the bay. Offer different classes/ratings of the "MCB" that support different bay sizes, integrity, power draw, number of active limpets supported, etc..

You could even take it a step farther with making it so that the actual limpets had a dedicated slot in the Controller Bay; you purchase different allotments of limpets with different stats like speed, range, carrying capacity, etc.. Offering specialty ones would be neat as well; ones that really swarm would be great for piracy, ones that can pick up 2 or more objects would be great for mining.

This would actually take LESS time and bullshit compared to the current system. If you've got most of the Controller modules neatly tucked in the MCB, it'd reduce the amount of nonsense you have to worry about while you're out and about. Launch your limpets, give them an order (Prospect, Collect, Break Hatch, Transfer Fuel), and go about your day.

This also made me realize this game would really benefit from a radial menu that's controlled with the mouse instead of these flashy asstastic menus we currently use.

Does anyone else play Star Trek Online? There is no general for it, and it is not listed in the pastebin for space games.

There are a few things this game does right that are worth discussing, I think.

>The currency system is anti farming and allows you to get anything you want, if you are willing to wait for it. Nothing is walled off where you can't have it by playing the game.

>You can earn a Tier 6 (highest tier) ship by completing community events, aka Summer and Winter Events. Aside from logging in daily for the event, this allow you to have a top tier ship for free without a huge Dilithium grind.

>No grinding to get top level. You will get all the way to max by simply completing the story arcs.

>End game content for max lvl players, and community created content. You can write your own missions with loot.

>Deep, deep meta for minmaxing your ship. Several different build routes depending on your skill choice. Off meta builds work all the way until the top .1% players, so there is still room to experiment.

>Actually decent story, even the time travel parts. The execution is a little sloppy at times (buggy missions), but even the filler missions are varied and unique.

Vulture is pretty straight forward. You've got two weapons, find a combo (Beam+Cannon) that works or go for the more basic approach (Double Pulse).

You need to be solid in the 100k club, preferably with a few builds in that range, before you can start to build for PvP. Few games are that hardcore of a club, but these guys solo advanced PvE queues meant for five 60+ ships.

You don't have to do any of it. Only some of the gear and traits are worth having, and during events they give you a choice of marks so you can level what you want. Other than that, it's a waste of time.

I pick it up and put it down as other games come and go since there is so much to do. Even though I've spent a little on Zen to have a few things for my main toon, I'm not compelled to try to minmax a 12 year old game. I play the fun parts and ignore the rest, and it's still a big game.

Its lateral thruster authority is great but it turns slower than a lot of large ships so staying on another ship's tail may be harder than you expect. The Diamondback Scout outclasses it in most respects.

In what range?

Frag cannons used to be beast but as a result of their stopping power they received a knee-jerk overcompensating nerf in the last patch. Rails are good at any range and plasma is more of a PVP thing.

The Eagle is the ultimate in ass glue and dirt cheap but its firepower is pathetic.

On the other end of the small ship range, the Vulture is nearly as maneuverable as the Eagle yet it carries two large guns and a fat power distributor.

And the size of what you're packing matters. Larger or more military-oriented ships have harder armor that smaller calibers will mostly bounce off of.

Keelback is absolute shit, as you'd expect from a trader/combat hybrid. Fighters are excellent at supporting in combat, having a fighter with an Annie or Corvette is excellent because they'll keep harassing whoever you're fighting even if they're more nimble than you and can glue to your ass. With a Keelback though, it's just shit because a Keelback barely has very little in the way of offense to begin with, so you won't be able to tangle too much with anything above a Cobra or Viper. It's a pretty cheap ship so I suppose it's worth a try if you really want to check out fighters, just make sure you manager your battles and not get yourself into something you can't commit to.

CoD may be generic, it's still pretty specific and it doesn't take much for a FPS to leave this style entirely. CoD and BF simply never cared to do so, they pride themselves on defining what's generic.

Now for wether or not "boarding" is a good things, we can't judge before we get an idea of how it end up.

It will certainly not be "easy boarding just add EMP", since Chris Robert take clue from movie and tropes boarding will only happen rarely :
- If it's a carefully planned operation with good timing and flawless use of hacking/EMP
or more commonly
- If the target ship is a NPC traders/non-combat ship you destroyed the engines.

At least from what we've seen of their plans. Don't be fooled by the SM game mode

Pretty much any boarding action is pointless and only distracts from the game. Being able to generate a player avatar in a social hub is fine, that doesnt require much work and adds a lot to immersion, but it makes no sense in a multiplayer space game to have a lot of the players engaged in fps corridor shooter gameplay with their ships parked rather than flying their ships around. Its just terrible and inefficient game design.

Also boarding really doesnt make much sense in space. The crew of a disabled spaceship would just surrender because otherwise they will run out of air and die. If they are suicidal they would just self destruct. Why would a space pilot get out of their single seat fighter to board an occupied disabled ship? For multicrew ships it makes a bit more sense but then you have the same issue where most of the players in your space game are hidden away in the shooting minigame instead of flying their own ships.

a possibilty to invest and produce income based on how you like to play the game, may it be pirating, trading, military supremacy, mining guru or as an exploration rat + a powerplay system where you can allign yourself with a faction and lead it or not to galactic domination.

a fairely decent player Base, but not only that they give you the opportunity to play solo or in open with other players.

a visually stunning and amazing game, A SPACE game, which means most of what you will encounter is pitch black... but what is a space if not pitch black...

a game that is actually out, and allows you to log in and enjoy it...

That's just to sum up just a few (maybe 30%) of what the game actually offers.

but yes... I would never pay an additional few IRL $ for this game... why would you pay so much for all of that... putting the amazing game aside, people who complain about paying for DLCs are just cheap fucks because they think the world owes them for existing. I want to say that the Starfarer is there for its fuel role, as well as cargo.

But I would still like to have both because I think i can sneak a small amount of vital supplies past a blockade alot easier in a star farer then in the Hull.

Also I assume the Hull E isnt going to make landings on planets, atleast not outside of major urban docks, whereas a Starfarer could potentially put down in the open anywhere as long as you think it fits.

Well, I've been looking at some other people's builds and trying to do similar priorities. So, I think that's set.

And fuck do I know, I'm pretty much a noob at this game. So let's assume I'm in their firing arc for quite a bit.

Though since I upgraded to the Vulture, even with my poorman's outfit I haven't really been getting hurt much in combat. Love me the large beam and multi.

I WISH I had gotten in on The Turreting. I was still suffering from the let-down of playing on release.

17D was where you'd stack Massacre missions, but instead of killing ships in a Conflict Zone, you kill skimmers at a planetside base. Literally shooting fish in a barrel for possible tens of millions per mission. I made about 200m. I would have made more if I had more time, but by the time I got in on it, the civil war state ended.

Running 2 Pulse Lasers is never a bad idea. Needless to say, it demolishes shields. More importantly, it keeps your power low and very manageable, possibly giving you more room for shield upgrades.

I remember when I had a Vulture back before engineering I basically had to shut off the cargo hatch entirely and set my FSD to shut off with hardpoints deployed.

At one point I had plasma accelerators that necessitated running A rank life support that turns off and runs on emergency O2 during combat. Worked really well for PVP but obviously engagements were limited to max 25 minutes total.

If you're not getting hit much you can probably get away without shield cell banks, or have one but keep it normally powered off and only use it to top up between fights.

I'd probably use burst laser + cannon after the latest patch, though. Burst is now the most efficient way to convert WEP energy into shield damage, which matters more than straight DPS if you're glued to an Anaconda's ass with an empty WEP capacitor all day. Cannons wreck subsystems so you just shell the fuck out of their power plant once their shields pop.

When your power consumption goes over limit your ship will start powering down modules based on priority, from 5 to 1.

Weapons draw no power until you deploy hardpoints, so once you go fangs out and your guns push power usage over 100% the modules you set to lower priority (higher number) than your guns will shut off.

Yes you can. When you target a subsystem your gimbals will aim at the targeted subsystem instead of center of mass.

It's a bit less precise than if you had excellent fixed weapon aim because of the random jitter gimbals have, but you can still hit modules.

Absolutely. Shit, you'll almost never have to stop firing. If they're engineered, then you're golden: never pay for ammo, no need to retreat, low power. It's not the strongest build, but it's not a bad way to go.

I'd go burst for thermal because your target should never be out of your crosshairs and in that case damage-per-energy is the most important stat on a laser. Cannons are hands down more effective vs the large targets the vulture is designed to fight. They have higher armor piercing to defeat the higher armor hardness of large ships, and they do more module damage when they breach the hull. Multicannons are just plain fun and more satisfying to use than cannons, though.

Notes-

Deploying hardpoints will shut down the cargo scoop, fuel scoop and shield cell bank.

The shield cell bank is for out of combat use so you'll need to retract hardpoints and wait for it to boot back up before you can use it to recharge shields. Since using the reboot option in your right-hand panel will bring offline shields back up at 50% if you stay still, you can combine the two.

Priorities are set up such that loss of power plant output due to damage will switch off weapons first in an attempt to keep the shields and power distribution up, and in the event of power plant failure (50% output), thrusters, life support, sensors, FSD and chaff will stay online so you can still get the fuck out of dodge spamming chaff and dock somewhere for repairs.

You can only hold 20 missions. I hear 17 Draconis has massacre missions but I've never been there to confirm myself.

In your Functions tab on your ship's right panel is an option called Reboot and Repair. You can use this to scavenge integrity from functional modules to brine a broken one back up to 1-2% but it'll also bring your shields back online at 50% strength if you use it while stationary. So you if you lose shields in a fight but win or get away you can reboot to get shields back up and then pop a shield cell to recharge the rest of the way to full.

Military grade composite is expensive and heavy for the extra armor it gives a Vulture, but grab it if you want it since it adds with reinforcements. Hull reinforcements are just a cheap and lightweight way to increase your survivability if you lose shields and the Vulture doesn't have much other use for those slots anyway.

Bi-weave is substantially weaker (317MJ shields vs 389MJ for 5A standard) but uses less power and recharges faster. It's a matter of preference and your fighting style.

Remember that activating a shield cell will overheat your ship if you don't have any heat sinks to activate at the same time. It'll still work but you're going to take some overheat damage to your internals.

Might want to move the KWS to priority 4, otherwise it'll never function.

Ship and wake scanners are like weapons in that they only function with hardpoints deployed, so having them shut down on deployment defeats the purpose of having them.

Notice how they have no entry in the RET column of power management at all. This means they only power on when you deploy.

Fuck me I just noticed this. Never downgrade the size class of your thrusters or you'll become a slug in space. If you absolutely have to downsize thrusters for power you can get away with 5C on your build instead.

Depends. If you're getting fucked by missiles, then no. You might consider it worthwhile to just cook yourself a bit using cells if you have to. If you're using cells out of combat anyway you can mitigate the heat somewhat by shutting your engines completely off while the cell discharges.

I'd run a bigger fuel scoop for getting around and just swap back in some armor when I get to a location I'll be fighting in. Class 1 scoops are painfully slow.

No, you have to activate it. You can bind it to a hotkey, then when you hit that key it'll dump your ship's heat into a puck for a few seconds and then launch it. The heatsink launcher has 3 pucks before you have to reload.

Even if you drop into an umarked location on a ring the game will still spawn NPCs in the center of your instance. When you drop down, immediately boost away from there for around 20KM. NPCs that spawn will no longer be able to find you because you're so far out of sensor range.
