So what are everyone's predictions for R8? I feel it will go one of two ways. They will make classes more specific or they'll make them open. By that I mean for the new classes, if we stick to the two new classes per tree kind of thing.

Wizards will get a class that caters towards summons and a class that caters towards debuffing.

Archers will get a gun sling class, which will be foot orientated but also work mount - they will be able to dual wield pistols and they'll also get most likely get either pied piper or a class that buffs team mates, both will fall nicely into place for fwee3's.

Sword's will go either all stance abled for the R9 classes or specific only certain weapons. It will probably be something like matador for fencers but lets you also dual wield 1h swords/rapiers/spears which will fit into corsairnobis. A class like barb where there is no weapon requirements as well.

Clerics will get a magic nuking class, which will be great for druids but limiting their spells once more, they'll probably be better off going miko at R9 anyway. They'll also get shepherd which will act as a sort of better priest with auto support functions and a pseudo swashbuckle.

Of course the power creep is real so all the skills base damages will be dethrone tier. The continuation of the current classes will also provide a lot more than what they do now.

Full support clerics are kind of hard to play in this game, if this is your first character I'd suggest you go for something that can solo and support. I'd recommend cleric2diev3druid3 as it is one of the strongest builds in the game with low funding.

If you are truly deadset on a support character you'll need to tell us what you plan on doing with it. Just so you know, there isn't much content where a pure support cleric is needed as clerics can both be top tier dps' while providing all the support a group could need

Necromancer in this game is not the summoning class, it has summons but the main focus of the class is DoT decay status effect and doubling damage of ranged allies with one really big nuke spell. The actual summoner class is sorcerer.

What's "heavy summoning" mean? Lots of summons or a variety? You can get a variety, but if you want an army, you should play Bokor instead. They have a zombie army and curses.

Warlock is kind of similar but the summons are just little black balls.

In terms of D2, Necro is basically bone and golem necro, Wugushi is poison necro, and bokor along with other cleric classes would be curses necro + army of undead.

One thing about Bokor is that you have to kill things to make zombies while necro can summon them, but necro only has 5 melee skels and 5 ranged skels and they are pretty fragile and do only okay damage. Both types of summons aren't that great later on.

You can technically be a sorcerer and a necro but you'd only be able to reach necro 2 and get 5 melee skells + shoggoth at the moment.

Zombies and Skeletons in this game are pitifully weak, they're more like squishy tanks than damage dealers, and they squish easily.

Sorc is the summoning class but its also kind of bland because theres only one REALLY good summon although its actually quite strong and its getting buffed.

Sorc is also the most nerfed class because every kept whining about it. The ai was dumbed, striped, and leashed until it's basically necessary to micromanage it. Also people should reevaluate cards like Tomb Lord.

One problem with all the summons, including skel and sorc summons is that EVERYTHING attacks so fucking slowly in this game. If skels didn't have windups they would do pretty good damage, but they spend so long before they attack each time. It's the same for sorc summons too, except sorc summons also spend a lot of time positioning themselves.

2v2 is only remotely playable because people don't care that much about it, if people wanted to win they'd make full con hunterscouts and just cheese coursing wins but people don't do that because the build isn't that great for other content.

And even in its current state it's 90% luck, better hope you don't run into a magnetic force featherfoot cheeser or a bored diev that wants to play 2v2.

The game in it's current state is designed to heavily favour physical damage. It gets more mechanics, stats, buffs and effects that effect it as well as having higher base damage and enemies with lower defence.

Because of this and because Wizards deal exclusively magic damage, there is almost no viable damage dealing classes for Wizards. They are essentially a support class but mostly favour increasing damage dealt rather than defensive support.

What you are suggesting doing is taking the weakest class tree in the game and gutting it while giving them nothing in return. Wizards have a singular role right now (making everyone do more damage), if you remove than then they offer nothing over other classes.

There are also many other classes in the game in need of major nerfs long before Wizards even get looked at (like the entire cleric tree and most of the swordsman classes).

Wizards have huge damage and access to more multipliers than physical damage dealers in the form of fire and forget multihit attacks and quickcast functioning as permacrits allowing them to invest 100% in their strength equivalent. The problem is they have low base damage, so in order to take advantage of those multipliers they need to pump up their damage on their weapon, but once they do that their raw damage output is ridiculously high.

Swordsmen have more buffs to increase attack.
Buffs to increase crit rate (a stat that has no magic equivalent).

Sword debuffs are all quite short and take a lot of practice to do well every time. Also ping and skill play a big part in it. Take murm for example, using slither and high kick then getting animation stuck means you lose 4 seconds of a 10 second debuff. Taking away a lot of potential damage. Slither also has a delay after it, meaning the 10 seconds is more like 9 or 8.

Swords need to chain combo their skills in order to deal the burst they do. This also means that all they can do is burst. Wiz's have a lot of sustained damage skills and are arguable a lot easier to use effectively.

Wizard animations are really long. You use an ability but it doesn't take effect until 2-3 seconds later. That and the tiny range they have makes it infuriating to run into anything with CC (like every single boss in the game) because your abilities will get interrupted and will go on cooldown without doing anything.
You end up losing a shit load of potential damage because you've got to wait for enemies to let you use abilities otherwise they get interrupted.

Also Wizards get shit on hard by enemies that just move around a lot (which is increasingly common with rank 8 bosses).
If a boss stands still I can get 1st almost everytime. If the boss moves around a lot, I will struggle to get 3rd or 4th.

To be honest with you, I'd rather have abilities I use and they deal damage instantly. It's not fun dropping a bunch of AOEs then dancing around a boss for the next 20 seconds hoping it doesn't move out of it, reducing all your damage to 0 until your abilities come off cooldown.

If you would prefer instant burst instead of sustained aoe then roll a sword. I've played all classes up to practo quest and while I can understand wiz's delay in skill casting it is not 2-3 seconds, that's absolute bullshit unless you have an RC or something.

Why are pyros so shat on anyway? Fireballs can be moved by anyone, only fireball burns(ignoring you count as on-fire while standing on fire) while almost everything a Cryo does freezes (and elementalists an freeze things too.), and the class attributes are total garbage.

Not only no spells, except maybe the energy bolts, but I don't think any summons are either. Necro has a pierce(shoggoth), Slash(skeletons), and pierce/ranged(archer skel). One of those could have been strike at least. Also skels do dark damage in addition to their attacks so they are weak against most creatures in the game.

But even if their spells are strike, they don't get bonuses from strike damage boost due to being magic. Although I'm about to go test if lethargy boosts that effect where you do do some additional damage to frozen enemies with strike weapons equipped.

Speaking of lethargy, Mages at least have the ability to weaken enemies a lot, with thaum too. That's the one thing mages do have, the ability to nullify a lot of enemy damage if they actually built for it.

Helllbreath needs you to be pretty close, riggers randomly, and then leaves you with the choice of keeping using hellbreath or stop so you can refresh your other fire skills. necro, well, flash cannon sheer power bypass most monsters mdef plus summons so it's doable too but from the three is the one who requires the most

dragoon 2 is babymode, you can solo r8 content with the spear throw boost spear and a cata pike lel but don't forget to upgrade dethrone, serpentine and spear throw attribute and survivability gear: mdef shoes (superior kovos 2x blue gems), mdef bracelets (+4 sissels do fine) 4x yellow gem top/botton armor, shield (didel tower shield, two slots for red/green gems) and max peta +4 mdef.

there's also card investment: 5~8 chappas for the necro (3 nuaeles for ez pz mdef)
5~8 ellaganos for the swordie 2-3nuaele
archer is tricker but works the same as the swordie, except that glass mole could do well for then, unlike dragoon that is just a small luxury

It actually uses sleep fairly well and would probably use magic missile okay, but just give it only JP. It's not going to always be casting it alongside you though. They really should have given them a basic attack. They're worse than companions.
