Because he's all the fucking way across the Great Dark Beyond and it would take him forever to get there.

He's utterly convinced that Azeroth is either already OG corrupted or about to be, so he's not wasting time trying to traverse it himself which could take eons and is instead using minions to accomplish it.

You have to realize that even though he's known about Azeroth for a long time he only learned of its location about 10k years ago. As soon as he learned about it he immediately tried to get himself summoned in through the only source of power on the planet capable of doing so and when that got foiled it wound up destroying that source of power.

The whole fucking main plot of Legion so far is Gul'dan working to secure the Nighthold's power to use it as fuel to summon a portion of Sarg's soul into Illidan's body which would have probably fucked us if he had succceded. Blizz has repeatedly stated that if Sarg makes it to Azeroth in any real shape or form it's game over.

unless you want people to run the raid while they already have id (thus reducing loot and making the whole thing severely less effective), every raider needs at least one alt so you can make a 50/50 split
