This interests me greatly. How does it compare balance wise to regular Misery? I've only played a little bit of COC but I found it spawned way too many enemies.

I played it, I don't recommend it. It's buggy, the end was unfinishable for me because of broken ladders.
X-18 and not only had 100% permanently invisible bloodsuckers that you were never able to see. Darkscape had the car chase part which is frankly just a pain in the ass with a chopper on your ass with nearly homing rockets if I remember correctly. If your car gets fucked, then you'll have to walk for like 1km to cordon.
Basically OGSE is what RMA could have been with more effort.

I've heard that map making is notoriously difficult, as well as it requiring the creation of new assets so as to look original, but I would imagine with the sheer autism/dedication the STALKER modding community has that there would be a lot more by now
The thing that holds back my enjoyment of series after having played them for so long is that I'm always playing the same areas I practically know by heart know. If there's one thing that Lost Alpha had been really enjoyable for was that although the maps were similar to the vanilla ones, they were different enough that it was a breath of fresh air to explore them

Hey guys, wondering if you can help me out here. I'm having a problem with CoC. I have absolute nature for CoC, absolute structures for CoC, and the sky addon too (whatever that's called), as well as arsenal overhaul. game is patched to the most recent patch on the moddb. When I first install the game, I go in and change my resolution and set the preset to Max. I was able to start a new game, but when I got into the actual game itself, I realized "wow this is definitely not max settings." So I go into the settings and change them all to max manually (I selected the DX11 shaders as well). So basically, everything is set to max at this point, but of course I get the "restart game" box come up, so naturally I restart it. BUT when I try to load my save, it seems as if the game just freezes and all audio stops, mouse cursor freezes over "last save," and I can't alt-f4, i can't even get to the task manager because when i ctr-alt-delete, the CoC window is just black over my desktop and I can't open any other windows, so I am forced to just sign out of my computer. I thought maybe it was the shader, so I changed to 10 and 9 on the main menu, restarted both times, and got the same issue. Also, I'm pretty sure the mods I installed weren't working either, because everything DEFINITELY looked vanilla graphically speaking. No actual error message or code of any kind. I have Windows 8 64x. Any other info you need please ask, but I think that about covers it. Can someone tell me what to do to fix this? I really want to get the true stalkan experience with this but I also want it to look pretty so, please help if you can.

Remove the Dr X quests. The rescue missions have a big tendancy to break and become unfinishable and factions members have a tendancy to all give out one mission until you accept it. This was made before 1.4's task overhaul and Dr X is too lazy to update it to the new system that lets you see beforehand what the hell you're getting and mid-task cancelling.

You can check that in traders config files, which are located in gamedata/configs/misc/trade. Some of the traders have buy_supplies = %condition%, which are exactly the leveling of their stock depending on actor (you).
It would make sense if Military/Monolith/Mercs had the top-tier and rare stuff. I don't know exactly what it is going to change though. I'd love to see something like attached pic in CoC. This would require quite a lot of all.spawn editing, which is not great.

Try SGM, add AbsoluteNature 4 (you can install it manually by unpacking it, then follow the ReadMe) and you're done. Some quests are fetchy, but overall it pretty much enhances the whole CoP-atmosphere without destroying it. Even adds old levels (Agroprom, Red Forest, Swamps, Cordon, Dark Valley,..)

There are simply too many weapons in his trader pool under heavy_pockets, nearly all of them the same as his supplies_generic pool, even if the probabilities are high it usually doesn't trigger.

I'd wager the way of dealing with traders is giving all of them their own sets of gear to narrow down the trader pool and add variety, and then having them sell only high tier shit after the player gets the heavy_pockets info portion.

For instance, what I did with Owl's supplies after heavy_pockets, was that I cut out all of the trash guns like AKMs, AKMS, AK-74s, and M4, because Owl wouldn't sell M4s, and then I just put in AK-103s, AK-104s, AK-74Ms and AK-105s.

For instance, I could do the same with Hawaiian, by giving him more NATO weapons for Loners like M16s and M4s variants, since he's close to Freedom.

Nimble is an example of a trader NPC that always has 1:1 of each gun in his inv, and I don't really like that he has every special gun and thing his best weapons could be parted out as rare probs for each trader. I think Nimble could be better used for a few good weapons and as a very reliable, and cheap supply of rare ammunition.

Stabbing fleshes is fun, but stuff like Boar, Chimera, Pseudogiant and anything large should hold their own very well against the knife.

Bloodsuckers, Burers, Snorks, and Controllers should all die to the knife easy peasy, because they're humanoid mutants, even the rats and dogs and cats should suffer from it.

CoC doesn't really have proportional spawning when it comes to woof. If I see one pseudogiant spawn in the area I should see something like 25 dogs, not 5, psydogs make it a bit more lively.

Well, that's the point of controllers, they can attack you from a distance and they have the psy field around them than can kill you.

I do want to make their psy field stronger like it was in ZoA or Misery, so that if a controller enters an area it can zombify NPCs and kill the player in its general area if they don't have any psy protection.

You shouldn't really be able to knife them like in vanilla because it's kind of cheating. A simple round to the head from any weapon could bring them down.

So what are the comfiest starting factions and locations?

By comfy I don't mean the easiest but instead the least "grindy-est" or the ones that offer the most worth while challenges for a STARTER stalker.

For example the Ecologist start at Jupiter is not only easy (since everyone but monoliths and bandifags are friendly) but also offers loads of missons from the start just from the scientists alone.
You can also immediately go to Pripyat and start raising hell or just take it chill for a while and explore and shit.

I got to mention im using a heavily tweaked STCOP with IS.

This is really much more of a problem with CoP/CoC than it was with SoC. The suit upgrades and the anomaly system in CoP make the SEVA pretty much essential.

I think that artifacts in CoP are much too weak compared to SoC, so what I want to do with those is make their effects more drastic, and a viable alternative towards wearing certain suits like heavy armors or SEVAs, but with their own sets of drawbacks.

As for the SEVA and the environmental suits, I want to give them much less durability than other types of suits, because environmental suits rely on a sealed environment to function properly. Which would mean that if the player used them they would have to repair them more often, and avoid getting shot, in order to avoid expensive repairs.

Stuff like Exos and stalker suits could have much higher durability, with the trade off of less protection, but be more economical for general use than SEVAs and SSPs. The SEVA itself would be more durable than SSPs, and better for stuff like electrical anomalies and radiation, as well as having night vision over the SSP.

This is ignoring the fact that the Exo is designed for combat by using the external hydraulics to offset the extra weight of armor that can't be physically carried. On the other hand, I'm sure that anomalies could melt or dissolve it.

The best way to balance the exo IMO would be having it provide unrivaled protection, but have very low durability and below ~90% durability, remove the ability for the player to sprint. You would have to constantly maintain your exo in the field (which you absolutely would have to do in real life), but it would also allow the exo's defensive stats to be buffed so that it offered real protection.

I don't really follow. Artifacts were always supplemental to armor, and in CoP, the anomaly protection artifacts do a great job at protecting you from that kind of damage, the carry weight artifacts were nerfed from Clear Sky but still immensely helpful, and the radiation-scrubbing artifacts were the backbone of the system.

In SoC, everyone used the artifacts that didn't have any drawbacks (or any significant ones at least, in the case of endurance/bleeding), mostly for anomaly protection or a token 5% against bullets or something. The most useful feature was being able to repair armor when it was the only available avenue in vanilla.

I think that system was a lot worse because there were no tradeoffs whatsoever, and you didn't even really have to go out of your way for artifacts because the good ones were all fixed spawns.

I don't think most exofags use it to haul gear, I think they use it because there just aren't any real downsides to using it. I think the bigger the benefits of an armor, the bigger the drawbacks need to be.

My personal autistic ideal suit system would be:

Eco Suits = Extremely high Anomaly protection, zero combat protection. Extremely low durability. Zero durability loss from anomalies, full durability loss from any combat damage. Inexpensive repair.

SEVA Suits = High anomaly protection, moderate combat protection. Moderate durability. Extremely expensive to repair.

Stalker Suits = Moderate Anomaly protection, light combat protection. High durability. Inexpensive repair.

Combat Armors = Low Anomaly protection, moderate combat protection. High durability. Average repair.

Exo = Moderate Anomaly protection, high combat protection. Low durability. Extremely expensive to repair, lose sprint below 90% durability.

The one thing that SoC did have over CoP's artifacts was a higher variability in effects than just taking away radiation or being radioactive. Even if the effects were miniscule like 5% bullet protection they could be stacked, batteries and springs provided 30% protection, and could all be stacked very easily.

The trouble with SoC's system is as you mentioned, there were few drawbacks to many of the good artifacts.

The system I had come up with has very strong artifacts, both in beneficial qualities, and negative qualities, to the point where combining certain artifacts is extremely dangerous, and makes the use of artifacts far more circumstantial.

In example, a Goldfish provides a high amount of bullet protection, but irradiates the player very quickly, and a single artifact cannot actually counteract its effect, so it is more circumstantial for combat.

I honetly dont get theSEVA suit, its only good in SoC and CS, in CoP and CoC its really just a meme. On CoM they might be usefull since you cant upgrade the scientist suits.

The only thing that SoC had that CoP was armor protection artifacts, which I agree should be in there (which is why it's nice they're in CoC by default).

All of the other dummy artifacts that provide protection against specific kinds of damage are still in CoP and they're still very effective. Taking a dip in hot areas without artifact protection is a horrible proposition, but two fireballs will negate ambient damage entirely for most armors. The only difference is that you have a reason not to keep them on all the time because they generate radiation, which I think is a positive change.

The thing about artifacts is that they're pieces of equipment and having to go through the menu during combat isn't fun. It sucked if you needed to unequip your radiation scrubbers in SoC because you were suddenly getting shot at and didn't want to hemorrage all over the place. That's why in SoC everyone equipped dummy artifacts and in CS/CoP everyone balanced their artifacts with radiation scrubbers.

If you want artifacts to be more useful, I think a better alternative is to do the old AMK thing where artifacts can become usable items. If you could hotkey your goldfish for more armor while getting irradiated for the duration, then it'd be useful. Either it could expend the artifact or the artifact use could be on a cooldown or something. Point is there has to be a more ergonomic way to use situational artifacts that isn't menuing.

It's high because the base weapon has a straight bolt and the bolt/your hand would clip through the scope if it were at the normal height.

They made a decision to include the scope and make an adjustment so it would make sense in the game... IMO it should've been two different weapon models (with the scope on the scoped mosin being nonremovable) and the PU scope shouldn't have been in the game.

Anyone tried editing silencers to have weapon effects beyond the standard power/accuracy/etc tweaks?

Trying to get them to increase weapon condition loss per shot, but I'm not getting anything out of it by adding with condition_shot_dec, condition_shot_dec_k, or k_condition_shot_dec (along with absurdly high multipliers to test) to the silencer itself.

Not sure if I'm not using the right prefix or suffix for it to effect the host weapon's condition stat, or if what values apply from a silencer are defined elsewhere so additions are being ignored.

I've been looking around through unpacked script files trying to see if I can make surrenders happen more commonly, but I'm too dumb.

As of right now I can tell that somebody will ONLY surrender if they're the last person alive in their squad, even if others are wounded, which is obnoxious. Wounding an enemy when they aren't the last ones alive will never make them surrender, even if you kill everyone else and then go back to them. Which is really obnoxious.

The worst part is that for the "kill/capture enemy" missions, if you wound the target before even killing anyone else in his squad, then you kill his buddies, he will go from a wounded state into a surrender state.

I would like to find the script for this so I can just make it normal behaviour, because I think it makes way more sense.

If i'm not mistaken, each artifact+container combo is treated as its own item, so i'd have to go in and edit each combo along with the base artifacts.
It's not hard but it's kind of annoying. I wish the container thing wasn't there in the first place, even if the artifacts weight a couple of kg, some would be worth it.

But the values are default, I'm pretty sure.
The most heavy to the most light artifacts: Gravitational, thermo, acidic, electro.
Goldfish's weight is ~7,5 kg. With the best container it's ~11,5kg. It grants you a ton of physical protection though.

For the health regen, there's a line in actor.itx called "health_restore_v".
I just set it to 0.00002 after a few test runs. Feels fair i guess, you can set it to whatever.

As for the radiation, i don't really know enough about which values change what. There's a radiation_health_v value, but i don't want to fuck with it. I don't usually have big radiation issues if i wear a gasmask, small bursts will lower slowly and some food items lower it faster.

Its just a SEVA/Sunrise with a slightly different upgrade path.

Most overhaul mods virtually zero-out the difficulty differences, but I don't know about CoC.

If the difficulty settings don't do the job, it's a pretty quick fix to either give the A.I butterfingers so they don't shoot so hot, or just add a heap of damage resistance to actor.ltx so what does hit hardly hurts.

Yeah, things are going great now. Got myself into a nice tech school with free student housing in a furnished studio apartment, and because I'm older than all these other youngins I get to boss them around from my penthouse while they shitter about in dorms below.

Studying welding to get into an apprenticeship, hoping to get into some defense contract work sometime in future if I can find a good company.
