I would suggest this as well. The 60fps issue isn't really that bad, unless you REALLY really like air combos, since Saix is the only broken thing about it and you can just set it to 30 for that fight, but the overall better textures and the redone OST make the remasters much better imo.

You could do that, or if you already have a PS3, you can just get both now (and get 2.8 on PS4 to prep for KH3). Play through each game/movie in the original release order.

KH1 -> COM (including Reverse/Rebirth) -> KH2 -> Days (or the movie) -> BBS -> coded (or the movie) -> DDD -> χ (the movie, unless you have a lot of time and/or money to spend on a freemium mobile game) -> AFP -> KH3

Kinda. They we're both struggling for control in 2.8. But that takes place before KH1, which is weird since Terra's body was already split into a heartless and Nobody by that point. So I guess that struggle was taking place inside Xemnas. After KH2, we don't know how that went though. They're either still fighting each other for control, or Xehanort won and is in full control.

On traveling through time specifically:
Your heart can travel through time. Your body can't (inherently).

This means that releasing your heart gives you the ability to travel through time.
Now, imagine this ability as a season pass to an amusement park.
Even though you've gone back home, you still have the same access to the park, to be used at another time. A one-time payment has earned you many visits to the park.

The Robed Figure, which is Ansem as solely a heart, can travel through time by virtue of being a heart.
Traveling backwards, he can gift his younger self the same power, by virtue of them being the same heart.

This is a causal loop, which keeps the sequence of events linear along Xehanort's personal timeline.

On time displacement: Young Xehanort, along with a few others, appear in the future (to them) of DDD, which displaces them in time. Technically, they are no longer in the past.

This doesn't fuck up the timeline, because they must be returned to their original timeline, specifically the exact moment they left. Memories of their travel are erased in order to preserve the past as it was.

On dreams within dreams:
In Kingdom Hearts, sleep is a state of mind, and a world within its own. (Sorta like a pocket dimension)

This means you can enter the dream and still be awake. Like lucid dreaming.

So Sora is awake inside the dream of a world, but falls asleep himself. This creates Sora's dream, which Riku instinctively dives into: the dream within a dream.

There's more to the Realm of Sleep, as χ[chi] clearly shows, like the "Unchained state," but that's how it works as far as DDD has shown.

I think that covers everything.

Sora and Riku already do this, just by not being a part of the scenario the dream is replaying, though I imagine their impact is minimal.

I do think Unchained will give those who achieve it a certain level of control over the dream. The ability to wake up, or move through layers of the dream, at least.
