Once you get to the later levels, nighttime is introduced, during which you have to rely on abilities in order to survive.

If you're talking like stat buffs and abilities like that, there aren't things like that. You just have to fuse your equipment wisely to include as many useful traits from each items into one to make the gear that can protect you the best. It's kind of like developing your character further in a different way, that requires more actual thinking.

There's abilities for night time when your normal attacks do jack shit. Monsters generally outpace your strength progression so you need to use items and such to make it through (though you can brute force the mainline dungeon). The stone statue puzzles are more about item play and planning than combat too.

This attitude is the source to all your problems. The idea that only perfect weapons are good enough will only make things harder for you.

If you would just get any weapon, no matter of the quality or rarity, and put on Power Up Xl and Power Up and keep it somewhat upgraded, you would already achieve ~70% of the power of "perfect" weapons for a 10th of the effort required to get perfect weapons.

Only those two mods are critical, and they can be acquired so easily. It isn't hard or grindy to achieve that shit, any base weapon quality will do especially for single player campaign.
