In Mass Effect 1 I committed genocide on the Rachni, but now I've just launched the ME3 mission to rescue Grunt et al and in the pre-mission chatter it plays out as if I'd previously spared the Rachni. Is this just Bioware laziness? They couldn't have even just have recorded an alternate line about one of the Cerberus experimental cells having a spare egg or something? Yeah, they didn't want to spend too much time on two different combat systems, where one might not be as good as the other, but it doesn't feel like it'd be that difficult.

I think they're going with speed for the Nomad, but I wouldn't find a Mako that felt heavier. Not like a main battle tank, mind you, just so you can feel the weight of a vehicle that weighs 15-20 tonnes, while still having good acceleration and top speed.

I guess I can understand the whole combat system thing, but I still think it's a mistake. It'd also be a good move to make the game feel more like the first game, which is what their kind of going for.

I prefer Soldier. Straightforward and actually lets you use guns, plus you become basically invincible with Immunity on higher levels. Most of the classes are viable though; but whatever you do, don't use Engie or Sentinel. An Engineer can be almost completely subbed for by Tali with no real difference in performance (the player is better at shooting than their teammates, but in ME1 they have pretty much the same powers as the equivalent player classes), and the Sentinel just sucks in general. Partly because it can't use any weapons well and its powers are all debuffs, meaning it is dependent on teammates to do damage, which is a bit of a problem when the friendly AI shoots walls all day instead you direct them to do otherwise.

Paragon is really the only one that makes sense and the one the games are obviously built for. The best that Renegade has is some funny dialogue, but that's just flavor choices rather than major choices (e.g. hanging up on the Council, "She's holding a gun and she's surrounded by geth, shoot her!", "Depends on the species... turian", etc.).

But I dislike that whole binary system anyway. Just do what makes sense for whatever character you're trying to roleplay.

I've played Infiltrator, Soldier, Adept, and Vanguard in ME1.

Vanguard was really fun in ME1 but I hated it in ME2/ME3 bc it basically becomes a totally different class. It goes from being an effective short-range tank class (good shields and armor, shotguns, and effective field control with biotics) to being kind of a shittier Adept.

Soldier was boring. Adept was too ability-heavy for my tastes. Infiltrator was my favorite over all bc it's consistently good in all three games, but if you hate sniping or something it'd be a bad choice.

Renegade Shepard being as much of a dumb thug as he is also really breaks the immersion of the whole thing. He should be a huge liability to the Council and the Alliance, and none of his subordinates should be wanting to follow him. It's so obvious that the story and dialogue are all written with a Paragon in mind.

You can go through all of ME1+ME3 while barely using your sniper rifle and do very well. For ME1, Marksman + Adrenaline Rush + Immunity spam. For ME3, try shotgun infiltrator or just use a regular assault rifle complemented by tech powers.

Really the only way to play a renegade is to either constantly take the non-morality dependent options, which are often less useful storywise because they aren't gated behind a points requirement, or else do some sort of paragon/renegade mix. Pure Renegade just makes no goddamn sense at all. TIM wouldn't have even brought him back if he was that crazy, he's a fucking maniac and everyone would be happy he died.

Bioware is fucking terrible at writing anything other than the purest most virtuous heroes, though. You have to be either a kind-hearted selfless hero or a serial killer. Purple Hawke is the only exception I can think of, and the game still punishes you for picking it as if you were picking the crazy red options.

So back in 2010 when I was a biodrone and just finished ME2 I read the books. I kept the base and wasn't sure about it so I though I'd find the answer in the books so I read all 3. Then on the last Kai Leng came up as the edgiest try hard attempt at and villain. Anderson, a main protagonist, shot him and crippled his legs bad. In ME3 he gets worse than in the book and with muh implants.

Why did I read the books /meg/? I'll never get that time back....

I agree the mechs weaponry looks really impotent, sounds impotent too. It's an issue I've had with most mechwarrior games, I prefer when every weapon is dangerous and powerful so more focus is on tactics and good aim than bulletspongery and stuff.

Just played Leviathan & Omega DLC for the first time.

They were okay. Omega felt meatier than Leviathan though I really enjoyed the detective portions of Leviathan. Still, both DLCs left less of an impact on me than Overlord, Shadow Broker & Arrival did.

I'm watching a let's play of the Republic at War mod for Star Wars Empire at War, and his mispronounciations are absolutely killing me.

Bioware please let me upgrade the Nomad with a HMG. It doesn't need a main cannon or anything like that, just a nice little machinegun that is slightly too heavy to be man-portable so that it has some moderate defenses aside from "get out and shoot at things, then get back in"

It has a shield burst that says it will knock back enemies, so I'm inclined to believe you will have to deal with enemy combatants while using the Nomad. Maybe the intention is to have you either dismount or try to outrun the enemies, but I'd like to see a nice little Remote Weapon System like the CROWS which is basically an M240 thrown in a cradle that lets you traverse and fire it from inside the vehicle.
Just throw a nice N7 Typhoon in a cradle on top of the Nomad and I'm satisfied.

I downloaded the additional Bonus Powers mods from the Nexus and I'd like to modify them a little (damage, duration, cd etc) since they're good, but a bit OP.
Every time I modify them with coalesced editor they disappear from the game and I have to reinstall the mod to fix it.

Is it really this much of a pain in the ass to mod ME3? I've already had to reinstall the game twice.

Modding the textures seems to be the issue with my game crashing at new game option. I'm reading the ME3 Explorer Wiki and it tells me to backup my DLC's, unpack the SFAR's and build the tree.

I've done all that and it still crashes. What steps am I missing?

Quarian Geth "Peace" doesn't make sense in the short term. I compare it to human Western civ and their relationship with African civ. There's always an awkwardness, too many visual and psychological differences to work together well. It will take hundreds of years, they'll have to mix their cultures together, and fight at least one more war. Very unlikely to come out good in the long run.

Peace is obviously the preferred choice. Gives the most war assets, the most complete character development for Tali, makes the most thematic sense when considering the Catalyst and Thessia, etc.

But honestly wiping out the geth feels like it makes more sense. Shepard and the others have spent their whole lives believing the geth are boogeyman, and at no point in the story have you ever been presented with compelling evidence of the geth being peaceful (in-universe, literally all you have are the unproven words of one robot). Since they wiped out a species of many billions down to a few million, they've for hundreds of years always maintained a shoot on sight policy for all organics. The only ones who dropped that policy even temporarily were the ones working for Saren and Sovereign to eradicate all organic life. Getting peace requires you to not only completely trust the geth with a loaded gun pointed at the quarians' (and Shepard's) head, but trust them with Reapers upgrades and that potentially dangerous influence. What character would possibly do that, especially when all your party members except EDI and Tali totally despise and distrust the geth and also would like to see them annihilated? In-universe how do you justify that choice as anything other than blind gullibility?

Your character SHOULD just be treating them as another set of Reapers troops. Especially since the reasoning given for them joining the Reapers again (assuming the first time was even a faction split, which again you are still presented no evidence of) is that they thought it would save them from inevitable destruction. Which is incredibly shoddy, since "inevitable destruction" is also the 99% likely result of any fight against the Reapers. By Legion's stated logic they would have joined the Reapers anyway. That situation would actually be worse, since when attacked by the quarians, they could always just leave Rannoch and be safe. Which for some reason they never consider.

This is the whole issue with the Mass Effect paragon/renegade choice system - they set it up to always comes out a certain way, because if you had variable outcomes you'd never finish writing the massive story plot tree.

Let's say you're confronted with these choices in real life - it's all based on risk calculation of outcome probabilities. You shoot the colonists on Zhu's Hope? You know the game designers didn't want to turn you off of paragon choices by punishing you for being trusting of strangers and reckless with your squad mates and mission objectives, so it comes out that the renegade choice is a sacrifice for no gain, because you're guaranteed a perfect outcome if you go paragon.

It's like the way Star Trek sees reality vs Battlestar Galactica's perspective.

I never recall anything about indoctrination starting; Legion's dialogue in ME2 makes it pretty clear that the Heretics joined the Reapers of their own free will with no brainwashing involved, which is why the rest of the geth respected their choice.

What I just thought of that would also be cool, is if you could change ammo for the cannon (be it large-bore or smaller autocannon).
They could've given the Mako upgrade slots like the weapons and equipment in the first game, where you'd have two upgrade slots for the vehicle and another for the ammo.

It'd allow the player to choose how they'd like to play in the Mako, either going full-on tank with extra armour and stronger shields, or just zipping around the enemy to shoot them in the back by upgrading boosters and energy reserves. While also being able to choose between different kinds of ammo, from armour piercing to do more damage against armoured enemies and possibly other vehicles, to high-explosive to throw enemy personnel around with the blast.

All of that would require too much testing for a third-person shooter, though, diverting resources that could be allocated to the 'main' gameplay.

Single player is pretty easy so just mix it up and use whatever. On my most recent playthrough I tried to let my squaddies kill the majority of enemies for example.

For the guns I just prefer to use most often rather than the ones that are objectively the most powerful:

Assault Rife: Mattock/Valkyrie
Shotgun: Wraith/Eviscerator
Sniper Rifle: Viper/Black Widow
Heavy Pistol: Phalanx/Paladin
Submachine Gun: Punisher/Locust

DESU my favorite playthrough was vanguard. It just kept getting better - ME3 biotic charging was fucking fun, and made the game no longer a cover shooter.

Like doing melee runs on the TR reboots, except way, way better.

If replaying a few hours is a big hassle to you, then probably not. The geth aren't even referenced past that mission and the dialogue immediately after it, outside of war asset text and I think one quick shot in the final battle. Then again, the geth also provide a good amount of war assets on top of the quarian contribution (and peace is iirc the only way to get the "best" ending without multiplayer), so if that + Legion not being mad + Tali not being sad overrides the hassle of having to replay a few hours, go for it.

May also want to do it for thematic reasons, e.g. not having the villain be completely right at the end of the game.

I liked the M-358 Talon on my Vanguard for charge abuse. I enjoyed the clunk of the M-96 Mattock, and most of the N7 weapons were pretty neat to use to although I'm not sure that you'll have access to them.

But you can easily make an alien antagonistic race still relatable. Just look at Halo and Sangheili. They were designed to be unempathetic hostiles right from the start and the modern 343 designs even doubled down to make them look more predatory and dangerous, yet people still love them.

It's more believable and thematically relevant too. Our protagonists are forced to look beneath the unappealing and unsettling appearance to understand and sympathize their foreign adversaries. It's easy to empathize with aliens when they look like humans. You're kind of undercutting your point, if you take the easy way.
