Maybe I just have high standards b/c I study literature, but the prose in F/SN is really inexcusably bad.
Some parts are the result of the translation, but others (like the godawful repetitiveness) cannot be.
I think the sexual violence is actually falsely represented as the only misogynist stuff in F/SN. Even w/o it, that series is sexist.
Nasu has stated in interviews that his idea for the Fate route was Saber "discovering her femininity" through bangin' Shirou, which is, um-

Fucking Rewrite.

I love everything from the visuals, to the music, to the writers, to the setting, to the characters. Yet I still can't say I enjoyed it very much. It gives me that feeling of nostalgia that my favorite VNs give me, but it never even reached near that point. These mixed feelings are very weird, and it doesn't help to see how everyone loves it apparently.

The point is to get only a little tipsy an d then maintain that state for as long as possible.

Why is Chaos Head such a clusterfuck? Now that I think of it, it was a miracle that 5 years ago I was able to install the game and play it without a hitch. Have you played Suika? It was planned and partially written by Moonstone's writer. It's full of kind of dark stuff and has one of the most depressing scenes I've seen in a VN. I read it years ago with the MG translation that I hear is pretty bad...but it's a fantastic game.

Even Princess Evangile had some scenes that weren't very typical for moege like attempted suicide and a bunch of other spoilery stuff.

Doko e Iku no, Ano Hi, has a brother sister relationship where other characters aren't comfortable with the relationship, apparently.

I'd really like to read all these games. Sakura no Mori Dreamers is also apparently super good and in the same setting as Honoguraki Toki no Hate Yori, iirc.

It's not even the lack of backbone from the heroine that bothers me, the mc is just flat. His thoughts have no substances, his actions are always demure, he never try to do anything fun with the girls and always get swept up in their boring conversation or become the butt end of a joke.

It's a trend that I see in the majority of translated moege I've read. It's why I prefer chuunige and plotege because the protag gets to have some actual substance in there.

Just finished the 3rd episode of this. I'm still pretty surprised at how much I legitimately enjoyed this series. I work in the financial sector, so all the financial talk, the stock markets, the economic bubbles, etc were surprisingly well described and accurate for a visual novel. I also enjoyed the way the characters developed over the course of 8 years.

Definitely one of the better titles I've read in a long time.

I'd say each episode is around 8 hours, with 3 chapters total. It uses a lot of technical terms and jargon that you often hear in the finance world, but that might seem a bit obtuse to layfolk (especially the last one which started focusing more heavily on loans, compound interest, repayment plans, etc). Still, I'd be surprised if it took anyone more than 30 hours to read all three episodes.

It's not really awkward because it's so thematically solid and makes sense. It's less dropping the name in-game, and more the name being there because of its presence in the game. All of the subtitles like "thus spoke Zarathustra" and "act est fabula" etc also occur in game, not for a lame title drop, because thematically they fit exactly into the story.
