I've always played healers in MMOs, but i noticed that my server has a lack of tanks, so I decided to make one. After playing all tank classes, I now fully understand why no one plays tank. None of them have interesting mechanics beyond spam your AoE threat generator

Guys, /elysium/fag here. Thinks are not looking up for the nostalrius/progressive vanilla scene.
I've been playing for a few days in elysium, the successor to nostalrius. I never played nostalrius itself though.
I am very much enjoying vanilla, even though I do miss some things blizzard introduced later. I started playing at the very end of vanilla when I was a young teen, and played through TBC and WotLK, both of which I loved, even though there were quite some things I didn't like about WotLK, it had plenty cool features to more than make up for it. I couldn't stand cata, I got bored as fuck and quit. I haven't had any interest in coming back until right now, so I wanted to ask you guys if any of you have had a similar experience and tried to play retail wow again, or if a player like me could enjoy the new wow at all.

Is it worth it?

Moonkin here, and yes.

We now have options. A strong AOE build, a strong ST build, or any variation of a hybrid that we can play with depending on fight. The starfall build is also tons of fun for questing cuz you can pull everything. We're in a good place that should only improve with 4pc.

There was nothing challenging about Vanilla. If you were willing to grind you were rewarded. In PVE and PVP.

The fights that are remembered as really hard were that way due to poor design or incorrect tuning.

No lights Yogg and heroic LK are examples of well designed, very challenging fights.

Blizz learned from their mistakes in vanilla and has not repeated them, to that extreme anyway.

Frost is like, consistently the worst spec in the game and sometimes gets to be middling when the competition gets overnerfed.
Unholy is usually pretty low too, and dips below frost every so often. I think there was like one time in the past three expansions were unholy was in the top 5 before everything got buffed and it dropped back down again.

The best ST spec now uses Nemessis instead of Momentum. You can also use it everywhere else tho.
Demon speed no longer charges FR, instead gives you mov speed.
Demons blades got cut by 10% proc rate.
For dungeons you can now run a build based on using Demonic, and refunding eye beam cd with soul shards.
Meta now has baseline 30% leech so you use the other two talents, which also got changed for better. Netherwalk in particular is pretty cheesy.
And you can imprison other shit that's not just demons.

The concept of filler spells and rotations didn't even exist until wrath. If you tried to have an actual rotation in vanilla or BC, you went OOM in six seconds unless you were doing Vael.
Most classes had massive gaps between ability uses. Many of them had only one skill they used for damage and they just sat there and autoattacked until it came off CD.
Wrath was when they finally realized this was an utterly retarded concept, and they started to take the first steps to fixing it. I wouldn't say they properly fixed it until MoP, which was when every spec finally had an actual rotation with no significant downtime.
