I'm pretty sure the hardest boss in DaS is Seathe's tail.

Something just occurred to me in DS3 (yes I know I'm slow but only 30-somthing hours in)

I can just run around with more or less starting stats and use Raw, Fire and Deep enchants and not have to worry about scaling. Can just spend all those stats on other things for most of the game?

Fire and Deep are fairly good for the first few levels of the game, while Raw with certain weapons (Astora's Straight Sword especially) will make the entire game a joke.

Yes, lots of people use a raw Astora straight sword to get through the game at a low level because its damage is comparable to a refined Lothric knight sword at 24/24. Raw broadswords are also common, as are fire broadswords. Honorable mention to the Irithyll weapons for being able to inflict frostbite on Dragonslayer Armour since you can't bleed him.

Just killed the first DS2 boss, I walked around using the Solier Key I got and I was invaded by an NPC, I have no flask and no spells so I just bolted and I only now noticed I cannot use a bonfire.

The DLC's only fault is that it is short. What is there is super amazing, and it adds a lot of play time when you take into account the arena. The DLC actually feels like the first proper souls area since DaS1 or BB.

It was short and kind of lame. The new gear was good (good enough to make me recommend buying the DLC when people ask) but the setting, both bosses, and most of the enemies were just DS1 throwbacks in a game that's already a little too referential.

Yes I did manage to get the fucking sword without prior knowledge. Mainly due to the myriad of player messages all around, basically telling you what to do. Yes I used it like the pussy that I am, and yes it absolutely ruined the first half of the game for me. And yes, I put points into resistance because I didn't know any better. I'm not proud of it.

Try duels first, you will get slapped around in the beginning but after a whille will start to understand what's effective and what's not.

After that try invading. Post-Pontiff Irythill and Crucifixtion Woods are favorites because you will often have back-up from auto invading covenants.

Best advice I can give you is to not sweat it. The best pvp'ers are the ones who keep their cool and recognize certain paterns by their opponents. The worst ones take everything personal and stress too much over winning or losing. Its a fucking videogame after all.

there are 2 of them, one shoots lightning along the ground and one comes from the sky

Before you start invading co-op a few times in the level, it gives you a feeling of where hosts have a higher chance of dying (e.g. near ledges or enemy ambushes). Use the environment against gankers, equip the cat ring and suprise them with a jump attack, knock 2 of them off a ledge with Force etc.

You will always lose a straight-up 1v3, use creativity and don't be afraid to back it up when you're outnumbered.

The point of most games is "tough but fair".

Most games define "tough" as "requires lots of practice/time" and "fair" as the game "allows you to win as long as you put in enough time".

What makes souls different is how they define "tough" (punishing) and "fair" (requires research / customization of the character). The one thing that From Soft does that no other company hasn't already done better is making the customization integrate into the gameplay mechanics as much as they do.

I think they should have just made armor heavier so that wearing full Havels made you fatroll or noroll unless you seriously pumped endurance and put on both havels ring and fap ring.

Being so heavily burdened should also have had some effect on how quickly you can swing your weapon.

I like the way the poise works, I just wish there were more downsides associated with the heavy, high poise armor to compensate for its advantages. I love how in Dark Souls 1 armor actually made a difference. Armor was never exciting in 2 or 3 because the only point was "does this look cooler than what I'm wearing?"

To be fair to the guy, Iudex is one of the more challenging tutorial bosses. Asylum Demon you could beat just by strafing around him (plus they give you a free plunging attack), and Last Giant is only really "difficult" in that he has one or two attacks that can instantly end the fight (plus you get an entire level before him to grind up and get stats). Cleric Beast is arguably also as hard, but that one you're also expected to die and then level up with the Doll (or just BHM out and get a bunch of levels and equipment before actually fighting it).

With Iudex, you're forced to face him at base level and his second phase is harder to gauge for a first-timer. Doesn't help that there's shit for shields, and it's reasonable to expect that a newbie hasn't realized just how important rolling is in this game.

You play however the fuck you want, and if you think that stopping every now and then to pop open a guide because you're OCD about missing something is the way you should be going, then it's good. Personally, I prefer my first playthrough of a game to be just as it is, without being spoiled by any outside information. Do that thing. Grab some firebombs as initial gift head to the catacombs and kill the first necromancer with the bombs and lit that bonfire later theres a very specific jump to the lower part near the first skelleton lair. Turn into human and summon the paladin and go fight pinwheel win enough souls to level up fast and there are few humanities in firelink to give a few tries, besides once the necromancer is kill never comes back.
