2 specialist is a not really optimal. Generally one combat/hacking specialist and then add another ranger or grenadier to your squad. Obviously once you get psi, find a place for them as well.

I assume you can use the animations from X1, but I'm completely inept when it comes to modding, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

There's just something cool about large weapons that you need to change your physical stance to use, especially ones that convey heft. I'm not against dainty wrist mounted stuff, but even Boba Fett had a rocket on his back.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what ADVENT are. They look pretty clearly like a mix of human and sectoid. And the game pretty much hints that they have a will of their own since some start surrendering once the psi network is destroyed, which means they should be around in the future.

I've been using Shock Troopers for a while now, they're honestly quite different. In a nutshell, less focused on heavy weapons (though they make top tier flamethrower users) and more on offense and a bit of debuffing.

Kinda looking forward to using Technicals and Shock Troopers together.

As a side note did they have to use that name? when I think technicals I think of a pickup truck with a machine gun on the back.

Yeah, but speed PCS's aren't common enough to rely on. I just build them with SMGs and use them as flankers and hunter-killers. Basically, they run to the flanks and corral enemies back into line or just kill them straight up.

Doing the animations for a rocket launcher are far easier than you imagine, assuming you have the bare minimum know how about animations. If they didn't do it is simply because they either don't have anyone that can do animations(hard to imagine since they plan to make their own game) or they felt like it was too much work when they could just use the existing wrist mounted animations.

Holy shit, Pistols are going to carry some games I think. Ability to save ammo for the next shot, pistol shots are generally more accurate then some weapons with the exception of Rifles and still deal good damage.

I think the thing that everyone is over looking though is that everyone gets three utility slots. I would be guessing this is at max though, no way they would give three at the start.

So this means that grenadiers get 4 slots, one for grenade, and then 3 for whatever they want. Time for even more destruction every mission. Guess this is a good thing since Grenade falloff is going to be a thing, need more of them for everything. No cover shall be left.

Now they just have to show how the fuck they are going to fix Sparks.

I feel the same way, but with Xcom2 it's not like you'll be playing "just" with LW2, you'll probably be running other mods with it. So even if they don't do anything to Sparks and Rulers that doesn't mean someone else wont do it, and if someone else does it's probably going to be possible to run both mods at the same time.

The biggest problem i can see is that most modders will either be forced or feel forced to make LW compatible versions of their mods, and maybe a lot of modders will just not bother and leave.

Those of you expecting dlc items / units / enemies to figure prominently in lw2 are delusional. If they are present at all, they will be largely unchanged seasoning. Lw studio has a 120 hour campaign to balance. That's a shitton of playtesting BEFORE dividing it into 4 separate 120h campaigns. They will balance the campaign for 0 dlc and severely limit the impact having the dlcs can have on the outcome. As they should.

Because the in-game units are all colored uniquely with crimson, navy, black and white. The thing is these colors are all in-line with ADVENTS whole look and design philosophy.
Orange on the other hand is not. For some reason instead of putting thought into a diverse but uniform look for all units they said fuck it and just went with rainbow shit because they were too lazy to take 5 minutes and make a ADVENT color pallete.

I've never played with it personally but going by screenshots they're slightly better for it, even if some of the ways they break up the color are a bit strange, most of the actual soldiers use appropriate colors.
For some reason they made MECs Green and lilac though.

I've got 400 hours of X2 time and I am customization-obsessive. Maybe I'm just less sensitive to it. Mind you, I definitely want more faces and more varied faces. I would pay actual dollarbill for a DLC with some more faces, voices with accented English (middle-eastern, African, Russian, etc), and perhaps some more options for civilian clothing as tier 1 armor.

Grimy's Loot Box is fun because it basically gives you a weapon with pre-installed mods, and some of these mods are cool, like giving your guys more movement or allowing you to fire twice. Hey guys, new to the general

I already read the pastebin and the FAQ. I played all of XCOM EU, a bit of XCOM EW, and all of XCOM 2. With all the talk I'm seeing around here about Long War 2 I figured I'd finally give LW a shot, along with actually finishing an EW campaign.

I'll be using Red Fog, Absolutely Critical, Dynamic War, Total Loss, Commander's Choice, Aiming Angels, Perfect Information, and Recon, on Normal difficulty. Started on the US, with Cheyenne bonus.

So I was wondering a couple of things:

>When choosing my starting country, the camera always rotated down to Antarctica. Is this a known bug?
>The "Recon" Second Wave option doesn't seem to do anything, because I'm not getting any information on MELD canisters. Known bug?
>If you use the Linux version of either XCOM1 or XCOM2, I was wondering - do you have any stability or performance problems with them or are they fine? It would be more comfortable for me to play them on my Linux machine but I don't really want to spend lots of time downloading them to find out if they're alright

Trun off absolutely criticial, total loss, dynamic war, aiming angles, and perfect information. If you don't want to listen to me, at least turn off perfect information. It brings nothing but rage and anger. Those other mods will fuck you up though, I guarantee it. The least troublesome one is Red Fog.

Recon doesn't do anything.

Also be sure to turn on the option that makes it so equipment doesn't break, it's a retarded mechanic they added later.

LOS indicator and the one that shows alien los with the rings. If you are going to keep Red For, definitely use Gaussian red fog with one of the recommended settings.

I have no experience with Linux XCOM

Long War mods are just an option for XCOM2 right now, and maybe people combine it with other gameplay changing mods. There isn't an actual long war experience yet like there is for X1, so it's not really comparable

I have never had an issue with the latest version of openxcom.

Looking through my mod folder (forgive me, some of these may be for vanilla EW, I did a terrible job of separating them):

I think the deal here is that you won't notice any difference from vanilla. LW tried to stop meld from showing up in the fog of war, but I remember a lot of bugs where meld, or worse, a bomb (JC!) would just be invisible when it should have been revealed because it was in your sight range. Could be working from outdated info.

I'd recommend playing vanilla x-com before going down that rabbit hole. But basically it's a complete game overhaul that changes how the tactical game, the strategic layer, the lore/story/plot/storybuilding, and introduces a bunch of new mechanics. It has its flaws and I'm pretty sure the campaign can take as much time as long war, but considering I actually beat the entire thing once, I think that speaks pretty good to it.
It also peddles in some tongue and cheek ridiculousness (see chainmail bikinis and some lewd flavor text) and the fact that you literally play as super mutant pirate girls, but hey, the gameplay is fantastic and the world-building is actually very good.

You can, there's at least 2 mods that add new faces, one from lover's lab and one from the guy that made that one hairs mod. That said, last time i checked(which was admittedly a long time ago) they hadn't shared their secret.

CapnBubs also knows the secret, some of his helmets work because of it, but he also never shared info, when asked he just said he would write a tutorial, and then he never did, and then he was stolen by longdong.

No it's not related to animations, at least i'm pretty sure it isn't. The way faces work(from my limited understanding of it) is that basically there's a couple of "default" male and female heads, like say, one caucasian, one black, one asian, one latino. And the rest of the faces are "morph targets" of those faces, i don't understand morph targets all that well but from what i understand it's basically that they're the default face, but the vertices are simply moved around to make different faces.

Something like that, and from what i remember the problem is that you cannot import or export morph targets from the SDK, which means you cannot modify or add new faces. At least, that was the problem. CapnBubs's mod was the first mod that had a workaround, that's why his skin tight balaclava heads work and they don't clip with faces, but like i said he didn't share how he managed to do it.

I believe either the loverslab mod or the hair one actually adds faces to the "face list" which means in theory, that they found some workaround too.

Res Comms are indeed priority on research due to being able to contact two additional regions right out the bat. But I seriously think that actually building Comms can wait.

In my case, building order was: AWC -> GTS -> Power -> Workshop -> Proving -> Power -> Comm.

That's not really true. They're plenty bunched up. A size down is only an inch (or two and a half centimeters if you're using real measurement units). A single size lower would reduce the bunching a lot and actually sit comfortably ontop of the shoes with maybe an inch of overhang, which would allow for coverage of the ankle while crouching. Right now, there's just extra material that bunches up and can snag on things, including the heels of her sneakers if it gets caught there.

Well I ended up going ahead and trying it out anyway.

Performance of XCOM 1 in Linux is good, and with the small UE3 related ini edits, it's prime stuff.
Performance of XCOM 2 in Linux is playable, but somewhat shoddy when compared to Windows.

In Windows with ini edits and my preferred graphics settings on a GTX 760: 45-50 FPS
In Linux with ini edits and same graphic settings: 30-38 FPS

I guess if I ran a better GPU I could afford playing X2 on Linux while still getting nice frames and graphics, but it's simply not the case. So for now I'll keep X2 in my Windows partition. But X1+LW is more than welcome to join in at the Linux partition because I couldn't ask for better performance

I've seen video comparisons that show Linux doing better at XCOM 2, but I have no fucking idea why that would be. Maybe it's something with the NVIDIA drivers I have? I read somewhere some older version actually worked better with XCOM 2 because it's a special snowflake - but I'm not going to roll them back just for one game. So eh.

First playthrough complete! What is the World column anyway because I feel like the average for losses would be higher than 3.
I somehow with my own ability and a good bit of luck lost no one until the very end (this was my 2nd run, true 1st playthrough failed). We had 3 Bleed Outs throughout the whole playthrough which we all stabilized, not counting the one of the final mission that was for nothing because he died anyway.

I always savescum to a degree on my first playthrough to get through the whole thing, but its mostly when I dont understand game mechanics.

I get that its supposed to be big surprise with shit like your first faceless or andromedon that resurrects, and especially when you skulljack and the codex appears. But it just feels so cheap when you dont expect it that I just reload and play again knowing its going to happen.

Should I bring more than one psi-op? Whats the best composition in your opinion?

I wish I could either bring 7 guys (2 grenadiers, 2 sharpshooters, 1 specialist, 1 psi-op or 1 crit ranger) or that psi soldier wouldnt be separate class.

Technically speaking? 6 psiops. Since you don't have 6 psiops, do this: 2 max level psiops, 2 grenadiers, 1 crit ranger, 1 sharpshooter or another crit ranger, your call. This is assuming you're on vanilla, of course.

Not really. I wouldn't take a SPARK without mods to increase their power. Take the axe (and maybe the bolt caster; assuming they're on max level too), as well as the suits where appropriate.
