Not much to do with the full set but it's decent in sharpness +1/2 mixed sets. Sadly you can't really fit that much on top of Sharpness +2 and Razor Sharp without perfect charms.

If you're just entering G rank, the midnight glaive, fimbulveltr, cannibal happa, tyrant rod, and anubis are all fairly easy to get and will take you up through G rank

Once you're at G crown you can get the hazy caster, daora's samudra, hellruin glaive, true fatalis dyaus, fatalis overlord, universus, and bounding dalamadur

Hey guys im new to MH (playing MHgen) and I had a few questions I wanted to ask (playing with DB atm)

I'm currently on 4 star quests and am using the BuYaBuJaBu set and have upgraded them to the point where Armor Sphere+ is needed. I was given a few for free but I was wondering should I keep upgrading and if not then when/what do I switch?

Also in general is HR important? I've been looking online on how to increase it but some of the quests aren't showing up. For example for the guild key quests there are 5 to do before HR 2 and I've done 4 but "Tackling the Tetsucabra" isn't showing up on my list. Do I unlock these by doing other stuff?

You can get Armor Spheres from mining certain nodes on various maps, so don't worry about running out of them. Except Heavy Armor Spheres, which are the endgame ones that can be a little bothersome to get in mass. If desired the Bujabujabu mix set or full sets like Ceanataur or Rathalos could carry you can craft their high rank equivalents.

HR or Hunter Rank is initially indicative of your personal progression in the hub quests (tailored for multi but can be done solo), independent of the village quests. Some quests especially at the end of a given rank will have specific HR requirements. This changes depending on the game, but in MHGen's case:

>HR 1-3 = Low Rank (first loop)
>HR 4-7 = High Rank (second loop)
>HR 8> = Post-Narkakos

At that stage, your true HR is revealed after doing that quest since it's been building up in the background the entire game; people who rush keys typically unlock at less than HR20 and those who take their time will be higher. Then you wait for the re-release to give us G-Rank.

And yes, you may need to do other quests before unlocking others; this is notable with the Fated Four quests. In MHGen, many people in the villages will have requests that are indicated with a speech bubble in the quest list for either Village or Hub, so there's that too. Urgent quests are unlocked by doing all the quests marked as key quests, though you can find those listed online I'd insist on taking your time enjoying yourself and moving up when ready.

Note that the person who posts the urgent quest or villager request will be the only one who gets credit, which makes the latter ridiculously annoying. Anyone can get credit for keys.

tl;dw is pretty much everything important transfers: quest clear status, weapons/armor/charms/decorations, items, zenny, unlock status of any non-dlc quests, prowlers all transfer
The only things that don't are HR (resets to 8 if above), DLC quests (some will be re-released), hunter journal, unity, and most of the Guild Card settings (the titles and backgrounds will, but your guild card itself will likely reset to default config)

How bad was it?

All it had was the infinite combo and the unsheathe attack. Which was it's only good attack. Remember armor skills didn't exist in the original MH either aside of some hidden ones like 3parts los and 2 parts ian gear would give you a bonus 25 fire res. So there was basically nothing redeeming about it, it could burst out a half decent hit with the unsheathe and then do worse dps than any other weapon in the game while constantly tripping and launching your allies. Hammer was much much better since it could KO and the swings on it are much more localized.

Obviously the king weapons of MH1 were the lance and HBG. HBG because the inventory limits for cluster 2 was much higher which lead to HBG just spamming nothing but clust 2 on fatalis and lao to absolutely crush them. And lance because of a glitch where most HR lances and one LR lance could stagger something with 3 hits to the head then get another 3 hits in and stagger again before the animation finished, permanently stunlocking the mobs.

Headlocking is the sole reason staggers are much harder to get off these days.

Clarification: the CB right before Desert Rose is easy to craft (The Haboob). And it's good enough to carry you through all of G-Rank. The Desert Rose upgrade requires blackcurl stouthorns which are a pain to gather if you're maining CB, I'd recommend sleepbombing to get them when you get there.

You can get away with unlocking one style with no real fuss.
With the HR restructure it really is only painful when you worked every single weapon to SR 999 only for SR not to be a thing anymore.

As for why, in nearly all the cases the different movesets are pretty good as well as getting used to the style system and HC monsters in general.

I GSR'ed my last weapon the week before G10 hit in JP. I was legit pissed.
Until I found out I could convert the old tickets you needed for HC into points to buy monster parts with.

It says Monster Hunter, not Monster Hunter FIVE (5). Which means it could be just a XX port. And the next batch of XX info comes out on the 12th and XX coincides with the rumor of MH5 going to the PS4 and MHP5 going to the Switch.

That's kinda tricky, Tonfas are certainly fun to play around with.
But on the other hand they are an absolute pain in the ass to unlock with the combination of needing G rank and progressing through the Diva storyline, which can only be done mostly at G rank anyway. Unless they changed that in TW.

If you're chomping at the bit I'd say go for it.
But be prepared for a lot of work.
Thankfully they learned what they did with Tonfas and SA is just unlocked right with G rank.

Not a serious, patient attempt. I also have no money. Not sure how much pre g-rank content I can trudge through using 2nd gen hammer movesets.

there isn't really that much content for a free player, but you do get to see some frontier monsters and it's enough to get a taste and decide if you want to continue. the 2nd gen movesets are sort of updated with a few new moves here and there and quality of life improvements. gunlance is WAY more playable than even current mainline GL, for example.

subbing to TW frontier is also shockingly cheap. bought a card off play asia for 13$ and got enough points to sub twice.
don't use any of the sites the website suggests for cards, they all want way too much information. i reccomend play asia.
