People do nice things for their friends. Some people also see reciprocal value in it. They hope if they help their friends now, then their friends will help them later when they need it. Of course this rarely happens since most people are too greedy and self centered to think about anyone but themselves when it comes time to return a favor, but some people can't help but be optimistic, repeatedly. In their mind, when they pass on mats after a trap run that took nearly two hours, they're thinking "Maybe THIS time my friends will pass on mats for me instead of rolling to make their gloves next when I still need a weapon." But odds are, those people will finish making their weapon and then they'll keep rolling on mats because now they need a glove, and then they'll want a chest, and then fuck it might as well get boots too. So you're right anon. Nine times out of ten, people aren't worth helping in this regard since they won't support you in the same way. Some people are better than that, but they are rare. Certainly. It really comes down to poor game design here, more than human greed. Since one mat drops, if you don't run in a static you basically have to be a greedy cunt or you won't ever get what you want. It's a terrible system. There's always someone who wants mats for their weapon, because odds are with the way the game is at the moment, your static's probably crumbled so you're bringing in fillers and people you don't run with super often. If you try to be that nice guy who passes so the new guy can get his weapon, then he'll get his weapon and quit the fucking game before he can help you get yours. Or he'll get his weapon and realize he needs gloves for it to be worth it, so he's still rolling on handkerchiefs. Or he'll get his weapon and realize how bad awakened enchanting is and focus more on brokering than helping with future runs. The list goes on. Sad truth is Tera offers no concrete reason to help others, which is precisely why if someone does help you in this game, you should be grateful for it. There's really no reason for them to.

I mained a healer for a long time until I got tired of DPS facetanking at my expense so they could stroke their ePeen and brag about their damage afterwards. In most circumstances, even among people I considered friends, it felt like a completely thankless role with no upside, and it really sucked when I'd heal carry a run really hard and then the same people who had to be scraped off the floor the whole fight were still super quick to roll on the mat even when I needed it for my chest, because they wanted to finish their boots or something relatively inconsequential. This game needs a need vs greed looting system, or a looting system that prioritizes support classes so more people will be motivated to play them. In my opinion if you're a dps and your tank or healer needs mats, they should get priority since they're the backbone of your group and can keep the fight going even after the dps have eaten the floor, but a lot of people don't give a shit.

The nice thing in Tera at least is that more responsibility is placed on the individual for staying alive. In places like RMHM, a mistake generally means death, so there isn't room to clutch heal and bring anyone back from the brink. It's nice because people can't blame you for it (well, they can, but everyone will know they're being retarded), but it sucks because ressing there can actually get you killed due to lasers. I wouldn't do it. I used to thank people for healing it but I feel like I only weirded them out, like they thought I was pandering to them or something when I genuinely just wanted them to know that I appreciated them keeping me alive while I tanked a scary boss. Nobody thanks tanks anymore either, so you're not alone in that regard.

I mean, there are good people who won't give you a hard time. It's the nature of the gameplay itself. When people die in this MMO, it's almost always because of something they did wrong. There are dungeons where a healer's role is vitally important of course, but for those dungeons a lot depends on your group. If everyone's dead because they made stupid mistakes, then it becomes that much harder for you to perform your role (and most people with common sense realize this). I really think you should give it a shot. Healing in tera is refreshing because of how different it is compared to most tab target games, and with the way action combat works it's really hard for people to directly blame you for their death unless they got like, a cleansable debuff and they stood right in front of you and you didn't cleanse it or something.

In general no one is really more important than someone else and everyone has equal rights to mats and gear.

Obviously. I don't think individuals, like people, are more or less important. But when it comes to classes solely within the context of this game, YES, absolutely, certain classes should have priority. If you're in a relatively static group, the first people to get priority on good gear should be the support (if their gear isn't good already) since good support allows the rest of the run to function really smoothly. DPS will contend that good dps allows the fight to end quicker, but good DPS isn't always possible if you neglect your support. Like, let's say you have a static with two archers, a mystic, a priest, and a lancer, and everyone's in guile gear to start and they decide to try RMHM. Now let's say this group decides that "everyone is equal" and they roll dice to decide who'll craft the ambush weapon first, and one of the archers wins that.

So now let's say you're that archer, and you've +15'd your new ambush weapon that your static decided you should get first since everyone is equal. Good luck hitting 2m/s with your new weapon when your tank struggles to even hold aggro against you because his gear's still not good enough to let him make mistakes so he's playing ultra-cautiously at Lachellith or dying when he gets hit trying to cast buffs in the middle of the fight. Have fun popping your brooch only for the mystic to die getting clipped by a really basic attack that wouldn't have one shotted her if she'd had a better chestpiece. But at least you got your bow. Everyone's equal, and you as the DPS can definitely carry that run when shit goes south.

You can't queue for HH, but most people just ignore it since it's legit not possible to join an established raid since they already have their scheduling set and they don't want to carry some new person through an unforgiving place like that. So you'd have better luck joining a learning group. Learning groups tend to meet consistently at the same time for four to six hours a day, every day, so if you're a person with a job or actual responsibilities, GOOD LUCK doing that. I consider HH endgame for the fortunate people capable of consistently carving that much time out of their week to learn it. For everyone else, there's RMHM.

It's unfortunate. I've never felt locked out of content by anything other than my own ability before. Like when Dreadspire came out, it was top tier difficulty but it only required five people. I could've attempted it, but I was scared at the time. But I could have tried, is my point. With HH, it is basically impossible unless I form my own group of 30 people that magically fit to my busy schedule. Meeting once a week, we should have the place learned and cleared by 2019.

Since both gear sets are expensive, it makes no sense to buy one when you know you'll end up getting the other one later. No one said anything about gear carry until you brought it up, but good gear does help in literally every endgame dungeon this patch, especially if you are tanking. We've only talked about RMHM, but I'd argue that RMH is actually more forgiving than most since Lachellith's attacks are way easier to see coming. I didn't say the group would have trouble clearing, just that it would really suck for the people stuck pulling most of the weight.

I know we never really went there in this discussion, but in a harrowhold static, I would argue twice as hard that tanks should have priority on gear, since the damage there is massive and will bleed through Imperator like it's made of cloth, and tanks take the most punishment. To be sure, you need ambush just to make behemoth in the first place, but if this were actually a group of 30 people who see each other regularly, they should make it their top priority to get their tanks geared in the best possible equipment right away, alongside their healers as well, because it makes the run smoother for everyone else.

I don't know how else to say this. A dps can die or struggle and the run will keep going like nothing even happened if the support is good enough. The inverse is not true. All classes are not equal.

Lancer benefits a lot actually. If your team fucks you over and gives you curse, with imp you're only semi fucked but in guile (assuming you aren't stacking endurance or something) you're royally screwed. My imp lancer still has bleed through with curse, I can't even imagine what it's like for a lancer in guile who has to take the curse for some reason or another. Is it ultimately a gitgud issue? Of course. But mistakes happen, and when they do I can deal with it because my tank is in good gear. That's my main point more or less.

Absolutely not the case in HH, do you not realize theres five separate dps checks happening at the same time in phase 4, that happens multiple times throughout the fight, some parts even having to break shields twice? If two dps die on one section and shield doesnt break, thats a guaranteed wipe. Good dps are incredibly rare, its why so few groups are clearing HH. Good tanks are pretty much the same thing considering they have to be good dps too. Tanks definitely need a buttload of armor though, and the head healer needs a healthy amount of armor. Everyone else can do just fine if they have the bare minimum not to get one shot by swipe and good weapon and gloves.

Yeah no you're a fucking idiot. When the DPS die right under the boss, sometimes you have to get in close to res. And that's when people fuck up and die. Honestly though, Lachelith is a shitty example for this since most of her things will one shot and her shit's more choreographed than a music video, but I didn't think I'd need to argue this long that support roles getting better gear first benefits the whole team more than a dps hitting a little harder. If you look at other dungeons like LKHM and HH, there are areas where actually being able to take a hit helps a lot. Heck if you look at other bosses in RMHM besides the last one, being able to take a hit helps. I've seen healers standing off to the side who get hit by the RM's first boss's front swipes and fucking die because they got in close trying to heal the tank. I've seen other healers die to the spider mechanics in the second boss because their gear was slaughter and they didn't think better stuff was necessary due to a prevailing meme that only becomes true in a couple of scenarios but falls flat just about everywhere else.
