Former WT enthusiast here. Left for WoWS when I heard they were abandoning their ship game.

It's not ideal, but it's fun enough. It's got the long range artillery duels that I was looking for. Don't expect historical accuracy, it's got it's own meta, and the mechanics all revolve around that. As for tips, it should all come naturally within the first few matches. Biggest change coming from WT is having limited space, and having to sell your old vehicles, even if you liked them and had fun in them.

I haven't played WT much, but from what I've gathered this is much faster. It will take you a while to get up to T10 on a free account, but T7 should be reachable in a couple of months or so.

One nice thing is that there's consumable stuff like signal flags and camouflages that boost up your XP rate (or other stuffs). Signal flags you get for doing good enough in a match (like getting 5 kills in a match = 10 flags for extra XP). Camouflages that boost XP you can randomly get from crates, which you get by getting a number of XP each day, or completing "campaign" missions, or outright weekly missions. The game has been rather generous with those recently.
Credits are the true grind-worthy resource, but even that is much less grindy than WT.

It does actually feel slightly better with regards to teams working together, especially when you go up the tiers. If I had to guess it's just because the most common game mode lends itself to easily implemented basic strategy that pubs can all get behind (which 2 of the 3 caps should we try to get), so it makes it easy for players to at least start following some kind of teamwork.
It's still an online multiplayer game, so there's plenty of potatos and that certainly doesn't happen all the time, but from playing a lot of both lately it does feel better comparatively.

I gave this a shot and I think it is far too eager to tell you to grind. If you consider a captain with 14 points and 20001 XP, it tells you to grind 158,999 XP because he saves 1 XP doing it before the patch. That's why I chose the 'effective multiplier' metric to quantify which captains are better prospects, (though I think I may need to change it to take into account the bonus they are eligible for without grinding).

This is what my own personal spreadsheet looks like. I use the columns to prioritize my grinding. For example, I'm gonna do the Kagero and Benson captains first because that's where 0.6.0 will fuck me over the most if I don't grind out the 15th point now. And out of the two, I'll do Benson first because I only have 7501xp left, as opposed to Kagero's 54444.

What they're NOT going to let you keep is the 100k captain xp you already built up on that captain prior to 0.6.0. So that captain goes from 14 points + 100k xp towards the 15th point ----> 14 points + 0 xp towards the 15th point.

That's why it's important to grind out captains who are even halfway close to their next point now, if they're under 15 points.

I think I'm finally getting a handle on Yamato. She's not like Montana or Großer. She handles like an 18 wheeler missing 9 wheels but hits just as hard.

I'm running secondary build since I figured concealment is a waste of time but without Auxiliary Armaments mod 1, feels like a waste to give up Main Armaments mod 1 but Yamato's secondaries get destroyed every salvo so it's making me rethink that.
Also reconsidering concealment since not being able to be seen from space and hit all the time sounds nice.
