For blob vs blob kill stealing guard with AH/pure of voice and staff 1 seems to be popular, also well necro, but do all vanilla builds get assraped in spvp?

At high level ranked play, almost every vanilla build is outclassed by the e-spec ones.
There's a few elementalists and guardians playing vanilla specs, but theyre mostly just for gimmick builds.
Guard (sans DH) is still very solid in blob play, some people opt to take it over DH.

To answer your question though, yeah. Vanilla builds have very little relevance in sPvP.

If you're good though, you can definitely make them work half the time. Thief and engineer are surprisingly effective without their eSpecs, but you're still essentially handicapping yourself.

Just go berserker, you're going to be doing almost no damage in open world no matter how you cut it and druid shits out enough heals to sustain yourself.
Don't bother with healing builds in open world, any damage you can't heal through in berserker stats will also be too much for a full magi, only then you also won't be doing any damage.

I personally have a soft spot for GS for open world on druid/ranger, but it's pretty shit and your pets will all go down like sacks of shit because they don't move out of chak goop, taking a huge chunk of damage with them.

Pets can't dodge, so no, not as far as I know.

In case you weren't aware, the mastery doesn't mitigate any damage, it just makes dodging replace the debuff with a stack of resistance.

If you add them to your friend's list or join their guild it will give the illusion that nobody plays anymore.

You will always find zones like WvW crowded and even Silverwastes still has people

Good is subjective, but all things considered it's well worth playing if you're even slightly intrigued, and thanks to its billing system there's no harm in trying.

Starter zones are always active thanks to F2P players, and with some exploration, crafting, and personal story, they are more than enough to get you to the max level if you don't mind doing a bit repetitive events.

High level zones are also highly populated thanks to farmers, etc.

WvW (large scale competitive mode) is also active depending on your realm.

sPvP (small scale competitive) is not so active and the gap between good players and chumps can be discouraging (you can get away with lousy builds in WvW thanks to the scale) but it's also rather active.

Mid tier PvE zones are the only "ghost towns" in the game, but thanks to the megaserver system that puts players in the same instance, and high level players farming mid tier mats, they are also somewhat populated.

There's a fun as fuck "action camera" for casual gameplay, but ground spells (spells you pick then manually cast on the spot you want) will be a problem.

Tons of new skins, obviously

traits are streamlined, you can no longer freely spread points, you have to pick 3 traitlines and the traits along the way in each 3 traitline.

spvp is revamped with streamlined stats, you just pick an amulet, your two weapon sets, weapons, runes, sigils, and traits.

There's a new "dungeon" type called fractals which have pretty much replaced the dungeons in terms of rewards, development and profit.

If it didn't click with you at release, new features will hardly hook you, but feel free to check out a recent video or some shit.
