the real question is if gix is better than astra with astra having that nice attack pp bonus, that is almost at orbit level.

like, is there any gix still actually worth it with that? it would do more damage if at max (with ramp up) for a set of PAs but over time the pp regen of astra will let it get back to using PP faster than a gix would (on top of no playstyle restriction)

so really, what gix is still just flat out better.

Depends on your class and the situation.
For FO in particular I'd easily take Gix over Astra, you are literally never attacking to restore PP, usually switch to your desired weapon way in advance, and Mirage Dodge is almost never needed anyways. You lose out on raw TAtk not switching to a rod for compounds sometimes but the extra 8% Dmg from the potential easily makes up for that.

Nah, if you don't want to bother farming Gix you should just grab the Astra CFs and do Mother when it comes up.
They are very good weapons and overall roughly equal to Gix. The thing with FI is that you don't switch weapons often, don't really have PP issues, and can't afford to get hit with LB anyways, so the Gix Potential is like tailor made for them. Astra will still do the job just as well and set you up nicely for the future though. You probably will want to do Mother every time it comes up for fodder and the potential 14*s anyways, so might as well grab the CFs if you aren't working on other ones.

Is there an optional way to drop the Nox weapons (talis, boots and rod) other than Mother EQ? I'm sitting at 100% and wanted to just get them right away.

Also for some solid starter units you can grab a cheap Saiki Set and do some very basic affixes on them if you have Premium and can buy them from the market, or just get lucky with the drops. If your account was around when they gave that 100k Challenge Miles compensation you can also just use that to buy the Ideal set, use the Rear and Leg pieces crafted for 10PP, and grab a 12* Arm Unit. A common and easy to get pick would be the Gix Unit you get for getting an S Rank in Ult Amduscia. You should at least get at the very least around 70-90 Atk affixes on your gear, that much is pretty cheap and goes a long way to not being a complete shitter.

It depends on when you do your runs. During JP primetime the runs are always pretty good and quick.
