The problem isn't even that, it's the fact that HV relays can only be placed on the ceiling of something. While IE's posts are 4 blocks tall, if you place a HV relay on an upside-down arm, the cable will dangle right around head level and my autism simply can't let me put high voltage cables that close to the ground. Ok so when someone said that IE waterwheels can power dynamos on both sides, they were fucking lying. I've broken and replaced several sets of wheels and I can't get power to go to both dynamos at the same time. Looks like it's just a max of 3 wheels on 1 dynamo.

Only 1 face of the dynamo will take an IE connector (haven't tried it with EIO conduits), but it should be whichever side I tap with the hammer. I tapped like crazy and the connecter was just not taking up any RF (like you would expect if power was moving). I had to just take out the other dynamo. The spacing is better this way. Instead of 4 groups of 3, I should have done 2 groups of 6. Whoopsie. Wonder how many time I'll have to re-learn this lesson.

That's how things have worked ever since some version I can't remember because muhbaluns. The face that looks like you can attach shit to it needs to face up to three wheels, and the face that looks like you can plug something on it is where energy comes out of, but all in all it doesn't change much because you can still just use another dynamo to connect three more wheels.

Flans packs only add either guns or vehicles. But when the model of the packs is god tier, they are great. There are also future vehicles and mechas which look really nice and fit a tech modpack. As for my steampunk guns I use them to spice the quest more than with bows and arrows, and I have managed to make the NPCs do some kinda tactics which is really nice like covering or flanking, but using Custom NPC in a complex way is so fucking hard.

I'm returning to modded MC and making a fresh 1.7.10 modpack and one of the points in my autistic list of must-have features is a good long-range (thousands of blocks) method of transportation that isn't too MAWPC. Something that allows me to transport both item and player, but can't be unlocked 10 minutes into the game.
I'm still not quite sure if I'm making this modpack tech or magic themed so both suggestions are welcome.

Forge has gotten this slow because Lex wants to remove coremods. They've been adding hooks for every imaginable contingency, so there's all this shit happening just in a base Forge install regardless of whether mods ever need it. They've even been breaking vanilla functionality in some cases to do it, despite their claims that Forge must never affect vanilla.

Forge needs to go, as do all of the sellouts working on it.

Guns and mobs are pretty good, animations and effects are well made. There are quite a bit of aesthetic blocks, some of them are pretty good.
There are also many generated buildings with soldiers in them, most of them even use chisel blocks so that's very neato.
Weapons seem balanced to me right now, but I gotta play with it a little more. There's quite a bit of compat with other mods too.

My only complaint is the 32x textures, which I am fixing right now.

Forbidden magic + shitania has a flower that either gives knowledge fragments or straight up research points.
With TC + enderIO you can set up a grinder for cultists, they drop knowledge fragments.
With vanilla TC, if you're really careful, you can use the cultists to continually summon knights then make a grinder with that.

I don't even remember 3 because that version lasted such a short time but as I recall it was effectively an alpha version of 4's research but not as streamlined.

I dunno how to quantify it. I still enjoy playing TC2, I dunno what version 3 is on, probably 1.4. But the bad parts of it are the RNG involved and the sheer amount of stuff you have to do to get a ball rolling.
4's start is easy. Scan some stuff, connect the dots, away you go. It gets tedious after the fifth time, but at least you don't have to make a 50x50 sugar cane farm.

With 2 once you have your farm set up you're basically golden. Once you get into the Eldritch shit and start raiding those vaults you really have nothing to worry about anymore. It's fun to do.
With 4 to get to end-game, you have to play connect the dots for hours, and scan shit like crazy, and remember how to make Humanus.

they all have faults. some people are more tolerant of certain ones, some aren't. I like 4 better because it has add-ons and exists in a version where I can throw in all kinds of neat stuff. 2 is unfortunately stuck in 1.2.5 forever with only nostalgia keeping it alive.

Newfag Traincraft convert here, is there a way to automate train transportation of goods? After fucking around with the mod for like 30 minutes it doesn't seem like the mod has much in the automation department, requiring a driver or at least manual maintenance (fuel).

I was kind of hoping a system similar to Factorio's in which you have train stops which force the train to stop for a configurable amount of seconds while machines fill/empty out the storage carriage(s) with goods as well as the engine with fuel.

Also what is the purpose of the different kinds of rails with different models when they don't even work with the track builder?

So... I've not delved into these roguelikes in a looooong time, and even then, it was with like, 12 man raid teams in a commie house.

i've been trying to make pointed tips for my crystals but for the life of me cant find out how to make an element other than from strict rectangular prisms. i mostly used crayfish at first but i needed more versatility in rotations so i switched to qubble but qubble didnt let me import a texture to each face, and also lacked animation tools so i tried exporting that to tabula however the model's blank textures fucked up as well.

Yeah, I do try my hand at architecture and design. More recently, I've been working on making structures that flow with the land, rather than the typical terraform a huge ass hill and put an ugly ass 9x9 cube on it. I've just been trying better to not suck at creating realistic buildings.

If this still proves too much for you, you can update an old tekkit pack, or use one of the packs that serbs use.

if you wanna do vanilla, then the dirt cheap option for pretty much any host is fine. If you wanna do a modded server, most of the time it's just straight up cheaper to build your own machine. it doesn't even have to be that good, you just need something with atleast 4 - 5 GB of ram and a CPU that's mostly functional.

I managed to get tekkit servers running fine on an ol salvaged gateway. The harder part is just managing the software before you can even begin running your server.


If you got money to spend, mcprohosting has been decent in my experience. They're not the perfect service one would dream of, and I've had a quarrel with them once or twice, but they're a helluvalot more reliable than most of the shady ass host services out there.

Early ExU: nice mod that added a few useful blocks and better hoppers, a good addition for any pack.
Late ExU: it also now generates RF and does a fuckton other unnecessary things, in addition to nerfing some of the older ones. Still decent if you tweak it a bit.

It's the same problem I have with a lot of "ender ____" mods. They just remove things like space as a resource or needing to put in effort to transport materials or power a long distance. Granted, some of it exists just to lessen Minecraft's load on your PC, but a lot of it seems to exist just to make things very convenient.

I think they're okay for RAM, it might be tick time they chew up if you put down a lot of them. they have to consume power every whatever number of ticks, update their lights, blah blah.

There's not much of a point to keep going back to a website over and over again at this point. Installing forge is simple with the installer and you can just add NEI easily by dropping it into the mods folder.

Depends on what version you're on though, if you're on 1.7.10 go with NEI, on versions higher than that, go with JEI (Just Enough Items).

How much of a bad idea is it to just burn down the forest region rather than let it become a festering pit of taint swarm spawners? I have a decent number of blooms (I got the Redwood City, Marble Shrine, Forest, Swamp, and Silverwood Grove warps). I'm going to try to save Silverwood grove with the blooms I have but it seems like too much work to save the other forest for no real reward but wood.

Is there a way to break tainted crust faster? I'm using a water bucket for fibrous taint.

Is it worth it to request machinery once I have a power source up and running? I am tempted to request an assault rifle since I still haven't killed that fucking botanist with the gun at the south end of the grove

The 24 outlook hit seems pretty heavy before you have some way to farm outlook. The most obvious route seems to be to mass cookies since the grow time on cocoa is super short.

Not really a problem since I can clean it pretty quickly with water, but the crusted taint is the real problem. If I want to clear out a tree-filled area or a town it's torture to spend 10 seconds punching each crusted taint. But it's 100% required because if you don't it will turn into a spawner later.

It is. As a BuildCraft developer, I have experienced this exact issue with BuildCraft pipes. I've also seen it happen with Tinkers' Construct smelteries, probably for the same reasons.

To make a long story short, OptiFine's multithreaded chunk magic seems to sometimes cause a race condition with ISBRH rendering in 1.7.10 which is not fixable on our side (in 1.8+, it's not a problem as vanilla itself is designed for multithreaded rendering at that point). Disabling said multithreaded chunk magic fixes the problem, though.

Refer to quest descriptions\book for biome and height of the metal you need, it shouldn't be hard to find at all. Can't blame for not wanting to bother with mining in Blightfall though, bloatallurgy metals is the absolute worst part of that pack.

Tainted soil is fine as long as you change the biome (it will turn green and may even fully convert into normal dirt), but crusted taint needs to be destroyed (not only can it spread taint, it can turn into taint spawners).

ender pearls and blaze rods are shit for balancing recipes. Blaze rods are completely random on how hard they are to find, you could spawn next to a nether fortress or spend 12 hours looking for one. This is the method I use. The cobble prevents the dirt from becoming tainted and the fence stops both tainted sheep and fibrous taint.

Note that given enough time, the biome can creep over the fence, but this buffer slows it very significantly so you can go work on cleaning up in a different direction and just touch up later. Even if the biome spreads, it won't corrupt trees or create new fibrous taint, as far as I can tell - but it is an ugly purple in your grass patches.

biomes do not take into consideration the y-axis, all it takes is an underground tunnel or room and the taint will use that to spread the biome beyond your primitive fence

and given enough time taint biomes will create crusted taint by themselves on the surface, without the need for spreading from the other body of taint

that being said just fucking turn off taint spread, that corruption shit works fine in Terraria because you only have two directions to work with and the "blocker" spawns natural in the world and you only need 2-6 of them but Thaumcraft makes it a literal pain in the ass because it spreads in three dimensions and the blocker not only requires a lot of research but is also costly

Yeah, the fence is primitive, obviously, but it's extremely cheap to implement and as soon as you see where the taint is creeping in you know where the tunnel is. Then just fill it in. You can get a fence/cobble partition up before you even get your first blooms no problem.

I'm working on a pack that focuses on witchery and would like your input. Witchery is a subtle mod so I'm trying to keep the power level low. I think that having other magic mods would over shadow most of what witchery adds and tech mods don't fit the theme so great. Mostly if you want to automate something the mod should actually make you design shit in order to automate it, rather than just plopping down one block that automates it for you. So, frame machines / pistronics and rightclickers for autofarming are better than the harvester machines from EnderIO or MFR, for example.

Not automating anything is also an option and it's how most people play magical adventure type packs. Nobody will bash you for ignoring muh industry.

Also, people here don't demand grinding, we just demand thought. So, if you want a challenge in tech but you're annoyed that you spend a billion years branch mining in GregTech, consider mods that are resource-cheap but thinking-intensive, like pretty much anything involving frame machines (Redstone in Motion is a mod that does this, need computers or logic gates with it), or Thaumcraft, Factorization, Flaxbeard Steam Power, RotaryCraft, Electrical Age, etc.

A real quick way to not be a shitter is: Avoid using item teleportation - so, avoid Tesseracts and the like.

Manually assigning blockIDs and itemIDs went out the window with 1.7.10, my dude. That no longer exists as a thing you have to do. The machine takes care of it for you without any chance of item ID / block ID collisions.

They didn't do the same thing for Biome IDs or enchantment IDs for some ungodly reason, though.

Still, the benefits from upgrading to 1.7.10 are massive. TONS more content available to you.

A total overhaul mod that changes most in-game mechanics and 20+ new types of trees, 20+ new types of stone, ores, sand, grass, dirt, planks, you name it. Thanks to all of that combined with its chiseling and lumber placement mechanics, it has more aesthetic options than most other mods. Yes. On the TFC serb, I've slowly been alleviating grinding by adding more and more options for players to either bypass sections of it entirely in small bursts, and by just giving players several more ways to tackle the same problems. Instead of "you must search for one specific ore that only spawns in one specific ore type out of 21 rock types in order to progress" (this is the worst example of progression in TFC and only applies to a single tier among many in the game), I've added an option for players to turn another ore type into that rare one by adding a side mod which was designed for that exact purpose. Other options include finding it in structures which have a chance to generate in new chunks (progressing through that tier via relaxed exploration and stumbling across abandoned buildings instead of tense "I must find 1 specific biome no matter how long it takes" exploration) and, coming soon, the ability to find randomly generating mazes (the way the rooms spawn next to/above/below each other is always random) which will contain large amounts of mob spawners and treasure chests (progressing through the tiers via combat.) Another method of cutting down on grinding I've been using is offering alternative crafting recipes for the same items. For example, in buildcraft, a mod that will be added to the server in the next big update, red dye is used to create an item which is used in a lot of other crafting recipes. However, in TFC, red dye is unreasonably rare, making the item mostly inaccessible

That problem has been solved in advance by adding several new ways of crafting red dye

All of those examples - adding mods, adding structures, and adding more crafting recipes to cut down on grinding - apply to a lot of the mechanics and progression on the server. That being said, balance is maintained through a combination of avoiding MAWPC content and adding more mid-game and end-game content. You could think of it like a tree where the player starts at the trunk and their goal is to reach the top. In TFC, players normally follow a relatively straight line with few branching paths. With all of the changes I've made and am working on making, if player don't like the path they're taking, they have many more options to explore other branches to reach the same goal

The picture included in this post is a WIP pic I just took. The top half shows most of the rooms that'll spawn in the 1.0 version of mazes once everything's done, while the bottom half shows a kind of view from the inside of one of them. Within the past hour, I just finished working out a fairly balanced system for which rooms should have which items and in what quantities (over 60 entries altogether)

I did for 1.6.4, but I never bothered for 1.7.10. (I just removed everything that used FMP, though, so I believe you'd have to rely on Ender IO's gas conduits, which only exist for Mekanism v7 and v8 and were simply removed after v9 broke the API yet again and nobody on EIO's team played Mekanism any longer)

I was more thinking of something that added more mid/end-game content than something that adjusted the gating. The complaints I've seen seemed to be in the spirit of "all this grinding and there's nothing to do at end-game because TFC lacks the tech/mechanical variety of other modpacks" rather than "too much grinding period".

But it sounds like your pack might address that a bit too. I might try it.
