What's stog? It's hard to compare this to a MMORPG too, in every sense.

There's no "endgame", you can play a T10 match and then play a T1 game if you want.

Also, forma fleet battles you need a T4 ship, that can be obtained after a couple of hours.

Just started today, but I'm looking at going subs. Picked up some basic ships so I can get the captains to help me go fast. At low level pugging, it's an exercise in frustration. Less guns, less torpedoes, and not really useful in the small maps. Hopefully it gets better later on. Using the Type O currently, and I'm close to getting the Type S.

There's 2 ways of playing them. You can play spotter or you can torp the shit out of them. Torping takes practice and some suffering but it can make you carry pub games.
Use 1 spotter or 2, never a full squadron to lead your TBs towards the enemy. TBs need 1.5s to dive before they can drop the torps, so keep that in mind when you aim or they'll do infinite turns.

I gave up on that being spotted indication skill because there are many better options for the captain skill. You'll learn when you're spotted just by judging the distance between you and X type of the bote. Next step from that is you playing the cards to decide when you'll want to be spotted and dictating how the game will go.

Otto gives a -45 percent reduction btw. This with the reload equipment brings it down to -55 percent when active. Also the passive abilities of your captain in the gunner slot decreases this even more.
When you reach a t5 BB you get Alan Macklemore with his newest album on heavy bomb drops.
Really, the British dude is great at 4 stars as he gives nice passives but, his largest buff is 10 percent more main cannon damage when in your gunner slot at 4 stars.

Every, EVERY, DD I've had this night has gone kamikaze dying in less than a minute leaving us 2 BBs vs 1DD 2BBs or some shit like that. I've actually platooned with a DJ fag before. The guy had a 60ish winrate. He was in his t5 DD and spotted a BB from halfway across the map. Considering the BB was firing and actively moving this would make sense. Some quick napkin guesstimating I would say that these DJ guys are running MAXIMUM SPOT and this was also a small map. As in, every single captain is dedicated to spotting, they have every scouting upgrade captain at 4-5 stars.

These guys are serious and have spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars into the captain gacha system to get what they need.

I would recommend trying each nations T3 sub before settling in 'for the long haul' as each offers a different feature (German for tiny with decent torps, U.S. for tiny, with the most rear torps. Japan for WELL FED SUBMARINES that can ram tiny Ger/Us subs and laugh, shrugging them off as they sink to the bottom. They can also ram DD's, and I have lifted one out of the water once.)

I say T3 as that is the sub tier allowed into FB's (2-3)

Just as a warning, if you've played World of Warships, this game will throw you off. The graphics aren't the best, but it is a much more skill based game in comparison.

Submarines are in fact in game! They are in fact viable! But they require loads of patience and a shit ton of planning and forethought.

Between nations
IJN-> Largest Subs, due to how ramming mechanics work, can often surface and ram enemy DDs to kill them. All IJN subs at a certain point are CVs.

American subs - Much smaller with rear torpedo tubes, middle of the road afaik.

German subs - Even smaller and slower, but much more agile. maneuverability is king when you are dodging TBs and torpedos by a hair's breadth.


Cruisers -

IJN - Middle of the road, torpedos and decent guns, not so much good armor.

US - Amazing guns and amazing AA, no torpedos though. They can brawl with other cruisers, but don't expect them to last in a fight against BBs except when plinking them to death.

Germans- Meh cruiser line, the Konigsberg t5 is decent. The tier 10 German CA is probably the best tier 10 CA in game stats wise.

They are a straight upgrade over the tier VI it's based on - instead of a sidegrade. This isn't helped by it being a cash ship and people are salty because they missed the recent sale on it

Mechanically it has as tier VIII guns (200+ damage x 2x3) very nice turret placement and two centered racks of torpedoes. It's pretty much everything you could ask for in a DD.

All this on a tier VI ship

Also goes about 36 knots, moderate resiliance (compared to low-res jap DDs) and four DCs - two of which launch from the sides of the ship and often can catch subs by surprise who aren't used to it. No ones online, what should I spend my gold on from the growth plan. I'm about to get enough to buy the Terpitz, and I was thinking a gold boat in general would be good for grinding silver and research rather than VIP, since it's permanent.

As someone who actually plays high tiers, I highly suggest you invest your gold in port slots or lower tier premiums. High tiers are brutal on newbies and will drive them away.

Get something like the Ise BBV or Oyodo, or Brooklyn. Or the t7 Chinese DD if you must get a premium. Otherwise, get port slots and just do the slow grind to the top.

Or, if you have enough port slots and don't want to buy a premium, use your gold to buy commanders. It can give you a minor headstart but will require a large amount of gold if you want to get the best.

Actually it is a flat upgrade.
If you look at the damage the 3 TBs do. They do only 7 less damage than 4 torpedos hitting. The 3 TBs are faster and tougher.
Its literally a straight upgrade.

The thing is, meta wise its also more powerful.
Since the flight deck capacity of Indy is 6 plens. This means you can get 2 full TB squadrons and get a scout/fighter much easier right after. In the time it would take you to launch 2 full TB 4 man squadrons and a 2 man scout, I would already have a fully airwing in the air and on the way. It shaves easily 10+ seconds or more.

I have no idea what you're talking about with the Mutsuki.

Laforey is better than the M-class in most ways, but not markedly better. Its tier 8 guns only do 7 more damage than the tier 8 guns available on the M-class just for example.

The biggest difference setting different tier destroyers apart is hp and guns imo. Starting at tier 5, every tier step starts giving 1000+ more durability and ~100 more gun damage. You have to outplay a high tier destroyer for a longer time, and you can make less mistakes.

Fighting a Laforey though, is roughly the same as fighting an M-class. Because there is no such thing as "perfect play" itg you can beat any other equivalent ship in a regular match. so long as the matchup is truly lopsided (ie Mahan vs Fubuki)

Basically, I'm saying that I can beat any random shitter that tries to wallet warrior in a Laforey, but redbear can kick my ass in a reggo M-class.
