I've added RTS games to hopefully stimulate some more flow. Memes welcome.

So how do I stop Civ 4 from crashing when playing C2C? I'm in the middle of the classical era at around 800~ turns and each turn takes about a minute and has a tendency to crash randomly.
I turned down all the graphical options to low and it seemed to help a bit at least.
Tothe anon in previous thread about cultural victory irl
You mentioned that something fucked up in top score, isnt top score in 2050?
I am assuming ISIS would be arabian special forces since they get no identification thing and their spies are constantly provoking rebelions and change of civics in other countries due to huge amount of money collected from trade of oil, and the need for war.
Anyone play Age of Mythology? I'm a massive fan of the game, looking to make more butt buddies for playing friendlies and not-so-friendlies.
strategy games in general are
even sc2 is dying. casuals prefer mobas and there hasn't really been a well received big rts release since 2010. I imagine mobas are just a phase though, there'll be another big thing coming soon, I can't see the genre having any longevity.
Generally civ in civ5 not balanced so people usually choose weaker civ so they can enjoy difficulty in game. If you want enjoy easy mode in deity you can choose Poland or Korea first then go slowly to other civ.
OH FUCK, Monty's an ass. Just because I don't want to open borders - and deal with all the horse shit his dirty explorers will dump on my lands - he destroys me. Should probably have opened borders. Hey I outlasted the Spanish, though.
Oh fuck me
>Only improved tiles are out of city's work radius
heh, good attempt though.
It's en sequel to ES 1 or more like a remake as it will decanonize most of ES 1. Bigger, badder and better at least supposedly.
Cause the first one sucked ass and was limiting the lore development of the endless universe.
I fucking tried to merge us again Thursday night. And at first some of the guys over there didn't care and I talked about endless legend some with some guys and then they freaked out, had a poal.me and then we were kicked out once again. I merged us with RTS and it didn't seem like it mattered. It's dead, it's been getting slower each time the thread is made. It's a dead dreams lads.
anyone still play pic related?
I am yet to find an rts as fun as this since it's release. axis are op as fuck in it, but otherwise it's probably my absolute favourite.
Poland and Mongolia = Settle where a lot of horses so you can do a lot of UU.
Romans just good enough to expand, because UA and Legio can build roads, so basicly you need a lot of Iron.
oh fuck you mean religious way... Then Aztecs pretty good and others that i already called, just take liberty after that take honour find camp and farm it or better two. Take piety and double faith from shrines, than finish liberty and honour. So you now gonna make a lot of gold/faith/culture due to killing barbarians that spawn from camp and enemy civs. At least thats how i played Denmark with Religion+Domination.
surprisingly so. the graphics, although obviously old, hold up pretty well and looks much better than other games from that period (DoW 1, empire at war, rome tw etc etc). the gameplay is exceptional though, the resource capturing style is a little strange at first, but it plays really fluidly with perfect population limits (in the sweet spot halfway between DoW 1&2).
still has a relatively large playerbase for a ten year old game too, with about 2000 regular players on steam.
I'd definitely recommend buying it, the sequel is a bit off though (the minimap is horrific and the screen is always a little too clustered). I am though obviously a biased source, but it is the highest rated rts on metacritic.
Try going for domination or cultural victory instead. You can't win science with babylon. When you losing with science going to money route. Found religion quickly for Tithe and then grab a lot money from follower and trade. Then you can just buy tons of army and attack babylon before he get to next era.
Try starting with Honor and don't playing tall.
You should try Men of War, preferably with a fuckhuge mod that adds better penetration mechanics, like GSM for MoW:AS2.
Oh, and all the games past Faces of War are essentially the same.
Where can I download distant worlds?
I am a /gsg/ paracuck and want to get into distant worlds.
(Or do you know a better similar game?)
Anyway, I miss the archive gsg has.
If you want a torrent, I have no idea but if you wanna shill out money it's on steam right now. It was $30 but I think it's $50 now, which is a stupid amount. Also make sure to get universe, it has all the expansions
I dont want to pay for it, anon.
I don't have any money.
but it doesnt have a map, you stupid goy
but I don't want to play such an autistic, minimalistic game
Stop bullying me.
I want to play Distant Worlds, not Aurora.
I JUST want to play it.
>You do make money enough money, right anon?
I have no income, senpai.
JUST help me in this matter, anon.
Any good LPs for Aurora? I'm going to look into the game.
first I have to finish my edyucation
I honestly don't know a legit torrent for it. Just look around to see if there is one. I make money so I usually buy my stuff. If you find one, link it so I can put it in the OP next time the thread gets archived. So later in the day.
Turn based isn't bad at all. I enjoy it myself. Paracuck games are interesting in that regard, but eu4 and ckII are shit so might as well play something turned based. That or stick with vicky2
>but eu4 and ckII are shit
I am a viccy 2 fag myself, but I really like CK2.
You have to try to roleplay a bit though. And with that I mean something different than just restoring the Roman Empire and moving your capital to Rome (eww).
Holy shit you're missing out. Go find a local nerd shop. They always have games running. And no that was my autism, I'm at work so I'm typing fast and didn't realize I wrote roll not role
>You guys also have a big furry scene which is horrifying.
I consider myself lucky that I never had the misfortune to meet one in real life.
>Nah I think there's a pretty big scene for it there
I'm not an autist, more or less socially competent, but don't have any friends.
maybe it's time to make some, senpai
>not roleplaying a romance between your male players
It's fun. You just gotta actually play it. Mess around with the factions and see what you like. They all play different. If you like MP there's sometimes an anon who sets them up. Are you playing vanilla or have the expansions?
Google: "site:tehparadox.com distant worlds" then sift through the results for non-dead links. You'll have to register to see the links, but it's worth it. I suggest using google and this sear limiter code since tehparadox's own search function sometimes complains of overuse.
Yeah the OST and visuals are really good. It kinda starts off a little boring here and there but the mid to late game gets crazy sometimes and it's a lot of fun. If you feel confident, post your game it's always fun to watch
That's a different Anon. I did say she was but I was lying.
>gsg faggot coming to the thread to beg and cry about aurora
And they shit talk US!
Btw, has someone fixed the fucking bug where you need a screen bigger than 1080p tall to not have your menus cut off?
>but they're all just friends from college/highschool.
wanna talk more about Aurora?
Community Balance Patch ain't bad, it has some good stuff like the Nations' special abilities but I'm starting to dislike how they have changed the diplomacy.
It is nearly impossible to push another civ to start a war and eventually they will team up and declare war on you like you were Hitler.
It feels like it was made for a domination victory in mind.
Don't know about Communitas
>that chat log
Holy shit is this the average 4x enthusiast or a side effect of adding RTS? I thought this was a comfy, mature general...
Don't care whether a person is gay/straight or whatever else. It's the incessant nonsensical posts that are (more importantly) devoid of content. I would rather have dead thread populated by a few posters sharing webms/gifs/screencaps of their current playthroughs, asking game related questions, or otherwise making on-topic posts than a thread maintained by shitposting.
Not trying to be harsh, guilty Anon, but go play some games and then come back and report in.
You can win otherwise but people usually just gg out when someone's way ahead in science and has a big enough tech+army lead that he can't be beaten even if everyone goes for him at the same time
It's more like realtime you can pause indefinitely than turn based as there are no "turn".
Bit like say EU series where you only do orders when game is paused
It's a feature :^)
unless it's something with 7.1 in which case I don't know
Hey we already breaking 150 posts, that's better than last few days
doing the age of wonders tutorial now. I've found that the in-game encyclopedia is pretty lacking, basically what's written in the tooltip is all there's in it. Like I would've liked to know how wooden walls affected my city, but it's just "it gives ur city a wood fence LMAO".
pretty sad desu, game is fun FOR NOW tho.
Does this support us free men of the seas or just the steam version?
That's pretty much it though, if you have done a battle already it gives a literal wooden wall in between your troops and theirs which you can use as cover for your troops.
It has some bonuses to ranged attacks and such too though.
There is auto resolve but ye every battle can be played in the actual battle screen.
Chances are if the enemy is at the gates you probably want to play it out by hand, in which case you literally do get a wall for your guys
how did he make a city 3 tiles from another city?
The battle for Sheepfuker Straights is about to commence
I'm not ready to accept the death of this general shouts to everyone still struggling with me ;-;
Also why doesn't EL have a demon faction???
This actually reminds me can we talk EL difficulty? I just got into the game and am about to finish my first playthrough and I have been playing on normal and the game felt pretty easy despite playing my first game honestly. I have previously played civ5 on the highest difficulties. How dose the difficulty system work in EL?
I'm cautiously interested but I literally haven't even finished 1 game against AI so I don't know if I'm comfourtable playing against players yet. I don't even really know what all the factions do
they're all actually pretty good in their own right, the problem is they're all different
if you get any really the order (and reason) is
shadows (new faction) > guardians (quests/events) > lost tales (quests) > emperor edition (only if you have Dungeon of the endless) > echoes (doesn't add much, good music though) > emperor edition
id say wait for a sale for most of it though, everything but echoes and lost tales goes on sale 66%, and those two are already at 25%. if you feel like you need dlc to keep wanting to play though, get one of the bigger two, since they actually change the base game.
really everything is worth it, they all make the game better, but echoes of auriga and emperor edition are the only two that really arnt worth full price
>filled with russians and jews
X3 was great. Too bad for its sequel.
I hope ES2 will focus a bit more on ground combat which I've found rather lacking in ES1. Also is that Auriga showed in the trailer?
>Not playing Space Borders
This is my first time ever playing a 4X game. I don't know what the fuck I am doing.
nice comfy plains fortress
Is this the right thread for Star Ruler 2?
I can't work out whether it's shit or not, it's the first space 4X game I've played and it's made me realise I quite like the idea, but the game itself seems completely arbitrary with certain things and the AI has put up disappointing performances so far.
Game is getting boring. These win conditions take too long to reach? Should ramp up difficulty for next run. I'm playing normal now, first playthrough so didn't wanna go crazy with the difficulty yet. Think I'll do the same thing I did with Civ 5 and just increase difficulty and map size by one notch each every time I complete the previous one.
Red's the guy who spawned next to me and just quietly teched in a corner who I went to take out in a hurry. Thanks anon for telling me hurry to take this mother fucker out FAST seems his dust production truly was next level.
I think this is the most relevant thread for my question?
As a kid I really enjoyed games like Pharaoh and Anno 1602 (and, sortof related, RCT). Slowly building my shit without too much micromanaging or fighting. Are there any more recent games like this? I'm getting too old for the really fast paced or complicated stuff.
You could try more of the Anno series 1404 is excellent and I think best in the series.
Ceacar series could be for you if you like Pharaoh
Lethis as the other guy linked is one of the better new releases.
How about some other stuff like Rollercoaster Tycoon, Cimcity 4/Cities Skylines, Prison Architect or that kind of stuff.
>build fuckhuge terraformer ship
>put in on orbit of enemy planet
>simply suck the atmosphere out and kill billions
Aurora... this fucking game
Join us for a game of endless legends!
Game is public, so you can just tag along
Rivers don't look that bad in Civ: BE
w-what the fuck is going on there?
>good amount of minerals on mars
>venus has shitload of sorium
I will bump this shit with some of my shit campaign
Fuck, I don't think there's a way to do just one body like that.
Either I reset everything INCLUDING Earth or I press the HW button for the moon and cheat my way to super minerals.
>mon visage quand when I'm France
why do most people put cities 4-5 tiles away not 6-7 tiles away to maximize the tile consumption for population?
seems kinda inefficient when in late game when 3-4 of your cities are having short on tiles and gimping your city gains from food/prod
Early game is more important than optimal late game set up
And it's not even that inefficient, most of the time 2 cities are just as good as 3 cities on the same number of usable tiles, 3 cities might even be able to pick up some extra tiles if placed right.
I think it's fine.
I got it after 1.6 so I can't speak for the time before that. Shame about the remaining bugs.
Hopefully, with the holidays over we'll get a new patch soon.
And goddamn is necropolis strong and necromantic again. Lyla best hero.
I know Endless Space isn't the best space 4x out there, but I like it a lot. Still working on an Impossible victory as the Harmony. Last time, I got sandwiched between the two superpowers: Sheredyn and Sophons. Only had 6 systems, only one resource monopoly, and the Sheredyn kept blockading my only source of Hexaferrum so I couldn't even build big tanky ships.
I can't even imagine playing on impossible, I got my shit kicked in so hard on hard last time I reverted back to normal just to refine tactics.
Also what would be the best 4x space round based game in your opinion? I got Master of Orion II somewhere but played it to death, StarDrive II, but not in the mood for that and Endless Space right now.

How do I make late game Warmongers with very little early game work? I've been trying to play with the Vice Virtuoso Metal Gear civs and they seem really hard to make work, Armstrong especially.
What mods do you guys play with on Civ 5? I get bored of Civ 5 quickly since it's easy and/or slow and I get bored.
I usually run the communitas mod pack + some minor mods to make AI more aggressive but I'm wondering if you guys use any other mods that are fun.
Does anyone here play Supreme Commander FA? I started playing on the Forged Alliance Forever community lobby awhile ago and got up to about rank 1000 before I stopped for uni.
Game really seems like a hidden gem, easily my favorite RTS and imo the deepest with a really well developed meta and balance between strategy and tactics.
>Pick up Endless Legend during Winter Sale
>Try to learn the game with Vaulters
>Constantly behind in points and getting my shit pushed in
>Try out Cultists on a whim
>mfw I've effortlessly built an army of minions through Dust/Influence grinding
this ones annoying because you can't build unit producing buildings and your main opponent either has two bottle necks protecting their main base from which they build a none stop tide of mixed units.
Wait were the RTS general now as well?
I'm...okay with this
Anyone else hyped for Battle Realms steam release this month?
Picked this up for 2€ on the christmas sale, haven't tried it out yet but having played springTA I think I'll enjoy it
Does anyone know how to make Sorium harvesters work in Aurora 4x?
I just made a fleet of 3 harvesters that can hold 20,000,000 fuel each and now Earth doesn't have any fuel. I had to equalize the fuel because 1 ship didn't even get any fuel.
How the hell do I give most of it back? Also how do you automate it?
Figured it out. I don't think it can be automated though. Not in the way you want anyhow. It'll just drop the fuel on the nearest thing marked "colony" and pretty soon you'll have an asteroid that's mostly and explosive ocean.
Err, nevermind... again.
Had to tick the "tanker" box in the ship design screen to make it go away. I don't want it to be an actual taker that other ships refuel from, but that's not really an issue.
Fuck took me a while but i finally got it. must have tried 5 different types of strats in it. but once i realized they don't rebuild their unit production buildings it gave me hope. also finding a couple of the other settlements on the southern shore earlier on would have helped too.
Quill18 is doing an LP of it on youtube.
Lots of fuckers trying the game now.
The wiki is a crapshoot on how patient you are with clicking refresh and not getting 508 errors.
You can watch him do it and he explains the game really well, so if you don't know anything about it learn from him before you try otherwise you're not going to get very far. Gotta know what buttons to press. Can't just click a ship and click somewhere.
He's talking about Dracula 2, the Risk map.
African Kingdoms is worth it. The new civs are pretty neat, as are...most of the new campaigns. If you don't mind some bugs, of course, but that's AoE 2 HD.
Okay I just rolled Drakken with random and I can see every player on the map already? This is super boring what the fuck what kind of exploration game is this what were they thinking
Fuck this I think I'm gonna reroll I feel like warmongering not playing a faction of sissy dragons who spoil half the fun of exploration at start of game
convince me otherwise
Indeed, and last game I felt like the AI was TOO peaceful. I was playing vaulters on normal and game was super fucking ez. I want a challenge, and I want warmongering. So time to reroll yeah? Convince to keep playing this Drakken game, I'm 2 turns in
Also I'm 2 techs into Era 2 and someone just reached Era 3. This difficulty is one harder than normal and I feel like this will be a rough one. There are 3 vaulters on the map how the fuck am I going to keep up with in tech them actually
This is my second game. I have no fucking clue. What should I know? I've got some serious catching up to do and I'm not entirely sure if this game's already fucked and I should just gg and reroll. The vaulter that spawned right next to me forward settled the exact place I was going to rush to forward settle right before me and that kind of tilted me so hard I went and took it over and I'm so fucking crippled actually I have 2 cities while the best AI has 6. Oh yeah 3 or 4 factions already closed borders to me as well
one of the most important things you need to realize if you havent already is, not every tech is good, even if its a faction tech, and not every unit is good, even if its a faction unit
it might not be the best, but its completely optional for a drakken to field 8 of his starting unit, but absolutely retarded for a cultist to do the same
from the sound of it, reroll. depending on what you are and what you're next to, even having a 1 region buffer could fuck your start over
Why are both the EL wikis actually so fucking terrible? Every time I try to find answers there theres fucking nOTHING available on the subject. There's two of them and both are useless? Like what is that even
Dude I got fucking crushed I technically didn't reroll I got fucking curbstomped
Allright I'm playing ardent mages now and I've got a pretty neat start. What do I need to know?
My dest escort only fits into fleet parameters if at 8100 tonnes
AOW has good tactical combat but it throws so many battles at you that because the battles take so long (up to 42 units in one battle) you are guaranteed to get tired of manual combat real quick. AOW is a wierd game. HOMM strikes a nice balance between depth and fun. AOW goes overboard with the battle and is just tedious.
Indeed a shame because the battles are actually quite good (when there aren't too many). There is something wrong with trying to be a 4x with settlers spam, decentralized production, slow movement per turn and HOMM rpg elements like XXL map containing hundred of neutral camps, heroes and long epic battles.
If AOW put more focus on campaigns and scenarios and heroes actually matter more aka Romance of the Three Kindgoms/Nobunaga's Ambition then you would have a really smooth game. Alternative if it had improved 4x elements and a less elaborated tactical combat it would be something cool and new (the battles in current 4x games are really weak).
I feel like the thrash battles are done way better in HoMM series. Not only do the enemy units surrender easier but since your army is composed of stacks instead of individual units losing 2 halflings isn't such a big deal. Meanwhile in AOW the units gain experience and are more irreplaceable in that sense and auto battle often loses troops it shouldn't compared to the manual grind.
I'm finding use for terraforming installations in my game. Since Luna built shit tons of it's own infrastructure I can just cart that to whatever planet and I'm good until the 50 installations get the job done in 5 years.
I am however super super fucking pissed that they don't work on Venus. Gotta have ships for that. So now I have 20m assholes on Venus with no way to make them stop growing and they complain about being at capacity all the time.
I think it's up to your engine technology. If you have magneto drives or better then you can build ships that haul more than 1 terraforming installation. Until then it's really easy to build the regular installations on Earth and use nuclear powered cargo ships to move them.
>not using tugboats
Tugboat master race reporting in.
Also you can try orbital habitation + installation combo too if you like.
Question, /4xg/. In V is there a way, modded or otherwise, for me to maintain negative happiness while negating the military penalties?
I wanna go full tyrant and stamp out rebellion with my disciplined army of conquerers.
I never tried that yet.
Neither the tugs nor orbital habitation. I don't know the tonnage of the part but I just figured that something that floats in space and only holds 50k people isn't worth it.
In my mind that's creating some complicated part to house enough people who can only work ONE miserable mine.
To change minor faction village distribution, navigate to your Endless Legend World Generator file folder inside steam (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Endless Legend\Public\WorldGenerator) and open WorldGeneratorSettings.xml in Notepad, then Ctrl+F and search for "DistributeVillages". The next 5 lines control minor faction village distribution in the following order:
-Minimum distance between villages (default is 1)
-MINimum Villages per region WITHOUT a player starting in it (default is 1)
-MAXimum Villages per region WITHOUT a player starting in it (default is 3)
-MINimum Villages per region WITH a player starting in it (default is 1)
-MAXimum Villages per region WITH a player starting in it (default is 1)
>Also why doesn't EL have a demon faction???
make way, chosen race of the Endless coming through
Wait a minute...
I'm just finally starting imagining the advantage of tugs.
You have one class of ship that hauls shit around and uses it's engine all the time when it's needed. Big, powerful, and plenty of engines.
And you use that instead of having ok engines on all of your ships that won't even be using them all the time. You save parts, fuel capacity, and you're always guaranteed to have badass work ships around.
You can even combine it with cargo task groups. It also saves total ship tonnage so your shipyards don't have to be as big.
>AOW is a wierd game.
No anon, you are the weird. AoW3 is for people that like TB combat.
Complaining that AoW3 is not a deep 4X is like complaining that XCOM is not a deep 4X. Autoresolving battle in AoW3 is like wanting to autoresolve missions in XCOM...
Tugs are great.
You can use them to haul mining equipment, cargo pods, gate construction modules, mobile fuel depots, point defense platfroms and anything that just sits on place for long time and doesn't need to be able to move immediately.
And the best part is that you only ever need to refit the tugs, everything else can be just left as it is so long as you make them with parts that don't need upgrades like Terraformers and crew quarters is only thing you need on a terraforming station. And then you only need to keep a small group of max tech tugs available.
I'm glad I noticed this when watching Quill.
When you're survey ship is surveying it will only do 1 body per tick if it's enough geosurvey points to finish it.
So let's say there's an asteroid that only takes 1 survey point. Whether you click 30 days or 1 hour it will only do that body in the 30 days. So what I do is when it hits the asteroid belt and it's a ship that isn't using conventional engines yet is I auto-turn 8 hours.
