SKL weapons are great, but the Threaded Cane itself relies a lot on scaling so it's more of a "long-term" weapon than the Cleaver/Axe.

Try picking up the Saw Spear in Yharnam. That weapon has less scaling but deals more damage sooner than the cane. It also gets C-scaling with SKL at +6.

Does childhoods beginnings ending for BB look like an open door for a sequel or am I too optimistic?

I've just started the game and I'd like some tips. I do want a blind play through, but I'm confused about a few things. And would prefer to ask them here, because I try to avoid wiki'is until my second play through.

I've started as Waste of Flesh, like I do with all Souls games (or deprived) and went for an Arcane Build because I always play magic. I'm a level 30. Just killed Vicar Amelia, and then completed my first set of Chalice Dungeons. I got a Fire Gem from it, and put it on my weapon, i'm assuming it makes my weapons scale from Arcane (just like Dark Souls, yes?)
Secondly, I put it on the Cleaver. Am I to assume in it's untransformed state, it does more damage to beasts? From what I've read in the descriptions of all items so far, is that Serration does massively more damage to beasts. Same with fire.
With those two in mind, I feel as if my weapon isn't exactly insanely strong, as I figured it would be with two weaknesses stacking?
I really just want to know how weaknesses work.
Because I haven't put any stats into Strength, Bloodtinge and Skill, as I assume it'd be worthless with only magical damage?

Secondly, I talked to Alfred twice, and he told me that some place called Byrgenwerth. was covered in forest and was locked away and needed a password to get in. When I looked past him, I saw a forest and noticed the door below him was locked. When I killed Amelia, I noticed in the cut scene that he said some strange stuff, so I went to the door and I had the password. I ended up making my way to some clinic (also patches wtf), but before the clinic, I found a Bolt Gem and a Arcane Gem.
Assuming the same thing as before, what weapons should I put these on? I imagine other enemies will have different resistances, like most souls games. Originally I was planning on buying another Cleaver, using the Bolt gem on that. But the Arcane Gem is a triangle, and the only thing it goes on is the cane. Is the Cane decent?

Fire and serration work together yes but you have only 1 gem on a weapon that would normally have three.

The cane is okay for an ARC build but it doesn't really shine till later on. You fucked up big time by going arc first playthrough, this general has like 5 different arcane playthrough guides. You have to know where the gems are, where the tools are, how to game chalices. If you're only just past Amelia I'd genuinely recommend starting a second character focusing on skill or strength.

You're not going to have a good time without looking things up and spoiling yourself.

saw weapons are pretty OP in bloodborne but they're the more boring weapons to use so you have pros and cons.

Beasts are a type of enemy, the villagers and werewolves and such. Soon enough, though, you'll find not everything is Beasts. You should quit the general unless you don't mind spoilers.

If you're going Strength, then you'll also want to pump Endurance, you'll need to for those bigger weapons.

I assume you've killed Cleric Beast, if not, stay behind him. Stay right into his ass and slash away, always be ready to dodge. Same goes for Amelia, you'll see her later.

Iirc, it's after you unlock the root ones and gather all the ingredients necessary to form a CFR dungeon. You need to unlock all the way to Pthumeru Root Depth 5 if you want 27.2% physical gems, and then just buy some of ingredients in the insight shop, while farming others in Depth 4 dungeons.

Serrated weapons are the Saw Cleaver (regular mode), Saw Spear and Threaded Cane (in whip mode), plus two DLC weapons, Beast Cutter and Whirligig Saw. These weapons do extra damage to Beast enemies, full werewolves and Beast bosses, like Cleric, Amelia and some others I won't spoil.

Strength is good, I'm running Strength (I'm only on NG+ so hey, I'm relatively new myself) but you need the Endurance. I found myself running out sometimes and being unable to dodge away from an enemy. Endurance and not getting greedy with attacks is good to keep in mind with Strength.

You can buy the Saw Cleaver dead cheap at the messenger bath to the left of the Doll. It's stronger than Saw Spear, and faster than the axe, plus has serrated damage against Beasts. Try it out and see how fast it is compared to the axe.

Myself, I use the Hunter's Axe because of strength and range, it just works for me. Kirkhammer is sloooow but if you get the right gems and upgrade it well, plus pump Strength, it does quite a bit of damage. But it's slow, you need to be wary of that.

I think one or two of them beat the game, but everything they complained about could be countered with "git gud".

One of the other major complaints listed was having to farm for blood vials, which is ridiculous, because that's the game telling you you're bad and you should probably upgrade your gear and your level some more before you bash your head against a brick wall long enough to lose all your vials in the first place.

I main the axe, too, just for the range on it which feels good. Keep the Cleaver for a tight spot when you need to land a lot of hits quick on a beast, works well for me. Keep it upgraded, too, don't let it lag behind.

And the DLC can be accessed at any point after killing Vicar Amelia. I'd recommend doing it sometime before Micolash, whenever you feel up to it.

Don't forget to keep up with the chalice dungeons in the meantime. Pthumeru should be done right after Blood-starved Beast, Central Pthumeru after before Amelia (right after Hemwick is usually the best time), Lower Pthumeru before Rom and progress to Ailing Loran around the same point as you feel up for doing the dlc.

You can use short root to coop with anyone without making the chalice yourself or caring on which layer they are. It can take a while to connect.
Without short root you can make the same chalice as the guy you want to coop with.
In that case treat it as normal coop anywhere else, so if guy wants your help to proceed through whole chalice you have to kill his boss and your boss too so you can go to next level and he can summon you again.

I'm using the Church Pick right now, and I was going to either compliment it with Rakuyo or BoM. I had a great time on a twink using Reiter/BoM, but the stats for it are wonky for most of the dlc skill weapons so I made a different one.
