It's hard for me to really hate a game, but the big difference between Sonic games I really like, e.g. S3&K, the Adventures, and games I don't really care for, e.g. Lost World, is that I actually feel like replaying the games I like, whereas I don't have much of an urge to replay Lost World. I had a decent amount of fun with it the first time, but that's about it.

Speaking of replay, I think Sonic Team still doesn't realize that the games don't have to be that long. Some of the most well received games in the series are really quite short. A lot of what makes them so fun is replaying the levels, whether it be to get stuff you missed before, getting a better time, or just for fun. Instead, Sonic Team finds some way to pad the game out to lengthen game time even though said methods are usually crap (Even Generations suffered from this with the extra missions, though those were by and large optional except for the 3 times you had to do them)

Finally finished my work, but not sleeping yet. I always saw when people critique sonic games the music never seems to come into consideration when rating an overall title. I wonder why as I am not sure I'd like some of them as much, without the soundtracks. Does anyone else feel like this?

Well, music tends to be the last thing that's held into consideration with most media (except for music, of course). Unless the music is noticeably bad no-one really cares because with a game the most critical aspect is control and design. The music is tertiary, doesn't make the work of musicians and indeed sound designers less strenuous but the sum of it is you can mute the soundtrack, you can't mute a bad level design.

Yea, this is neat. A lot of people seem to hate on this soundtrack too. I dunno, I like this kinda music. 90's sega music is a really interesting thing. I had a term me and a friend used for it "segasound." A lot of stuff that really jives with their other non sonic properties. A lot of games seem to have this overarching music design that I have no business trying to describe, not being a sound designer of any sort.

I think Shadow's entire game is actually quite underrated. Most people don't give it a chance because of the "OW THE EDGE" meme. Yeah, it's slippery but once you get used to it, and you will pretty quick since you're never switching between different characters like in the Adventure games, I think it's pretty solid. Every time I died to a pit I felt like it was because I fucked up and not the physics or a glitch.

And the branching story paths is a really interesting idea and I like how what mission you completed decided which branch you went out on. If any game tried that shit today they'd make that decision based on a dialog wheel or some shit like that. I mean shit your choices mean a hell of a lot more in this game than they do in the entire Mass Effect series, and there are more endings too.

My problem was that depending on your path, the story picked up and dropped plot points like crazy or just went full retard. Your choices didn't even matter in the end since the Last Story is the canon ending,. Also, having to do 10 complete playthroughs is a pain in the ass. Shadow has some cool concepts, but the execution is godawful on a good day.

To be fair, that did just wind up as A,kill these dudes for good plot B, kill those dudes for bad plot or C, just ignore everything and go for the neutral plot. Really it was just a bad karma system. Though it is better than a dialogue option, I'll give you that.
