Ren'Py anon here. I need some advice regarding relationships for /mmg/ cafe.

Would it be better to use statistics or event flags for building relationships?
The prior would require two statistics sets, one for relationships and one for the cafe. Increase in certain cafe stats will lead to changes in relationship stats.
The latter option means management decisions would set up event flags rather than stats.

The former option would make for a better cafe management game but will harder to program. The latter would be slightly more restrictive but easier to program.

That sounds like both options are good, but it's a trade off. I would try the former option first and if it's too hard, go for the even flag option.

Also as an update to the potential of me adding OCs thing, I've decided to update that just because I feel I wasn't clear enough or I didn't phrase it right.

You're free to contribute your own sprites of them if you want and this an easier solution on me AKA less work, but if you want you can post a pic of the OC with some specifications and I'll try to make the sprites myself if you want. Again this is all just preferences. The whole bring your own sprites thing just makes things a bit quicker on my end but I'll try if I really feel like it to make them myself.

I've made progress with Ren'Py. It will be possible to program /mmg/ cafe to the extent discussed here! Eventually.

I've managed to integrate non-binary variables into event flags which will make using statistics much easier. I haven't had the time to try the day-planner capabilities but I'll give it a try since it'd be really helpful for day/weekly events.

Also, Ren'Py doesn't support Flash images. It can support videos and static image files.
