I'm playing one right now and it's so much easier than a pure sword, you can just stun almost anything and then chop away. I guess an optimal build would make use of all three specs but I haven't found much use for alchemy other than basic potions

I decided to try the ME3 demo before I bought the game, but every time I try to play it I get to the main menu, then it tells me it's "failed to connect to the EA servers, etc" and all I can do is hit OK and have the game close. Is this a demo only issue, and/or is there a way to not bother with the EA servers at all. This is my first time trying Origin, so I don't really know what's going on.

Jaws of Hakkon is basically one new "zone". It's ok.
Descent is a retread of DA:O's deep roads. It's a big, seamless 5 hour dungeon crawl. I enjoyed it but it's not for everyone.
Trespasser is a playable epilogue. If you buy any DLC, definitely buy this one.

That doesn't have anything to do with its age, you could jump in any game that benefited from it at the time and Bioware had previously made games where you could jump. It was not implemented because it was a party based tactical game that aped the isometric infinity engine games of old, it wasn't meant to be played as a third person action game.

I regret not grabbing Jaws on PS4 before playing the rest of the DLC, since it's evidently got some interesting codices regarding old god and forgotten ones. Descent was quite a bit of fun, but everything had a ridiculous amount of health and just took a long time to kill. Exploration was fun though. Trespasser is a continuation of the ending of the game and is also pretty fun.

Here's for hoping this shows up.
I have a few things to propose.
1. The elves wanted the land within the domain of the dwarfs for themselves so they went in and fought the "mindless workers".
2. They wanted to mine lyrium and something else that I'm still not sure of, but I think it might be a component to create life or give something form.
3. Mythal thought she was doing the dwarfs a favor by removing them from the hivemind of the Stone/Titans and gave them individual sentience, perhaps to see if they would be more likely to give up their land.
4. The vines engulfing the orb within the deeproads is actually growing elaborate plantlife within the caverns which wouldn't have been there otherwise. The body of the titan we visited in Descent was potentially even the Sollarium that was described in the codex. It does mention the islands above the void (I'll elaborate on this in a minute if I can remember).

Yeah, but that was probably more likely because they wanted to crank the dlc out and not focus on banter. It might be combined with the possibility that the deep roads end up playing a big role in the next game too and they didn't want to directly give too much away.
I'm willing to bet that the dwarf from Lel's dlc, or well the inscription on his weapon plays a part in there too. The heart of the Stone is beneath Orlais I think it was.

I haven't played Trespasser yet, though I've read most of the codex entries on the wikia.

It's not exactly clearly said anywhere. The elven gods are merely incredibly powerful entities that at least take on a similar form to an elf. We'll probably find out they're greys or something equally retarded. There was talk here one a time or two about elves possibly originating from elfroot.

I have had this hare-brained theory for a while that the fade and the world were originally separate, even without a veil. As in they were just separate altogether and not connected. And there were no elves, just dwarves aka servants of the Titans and maybe humans (though the humans would have been living elsewhere in the world, not in Thedas). Then powerful figures from the Fade (Evanuris) managed to breach the distance somehow, destroy one or more of the Titans (pillars of the earth) and this act connected the Fade to the material world in Thedas specifically. The Evanuris crossed over along with a bunch of lesser spirits who eventually became elves in a manner similar to what Cole did.

I guess I'm still trying to fit the notion of a real Maker in there somehow and not totally discard Chantry teachings. The Chant states that the Maker created the Fade first, then the material world and the spirits of the Fade looked with envy on the world.

I've actually thought about that quite a bit myself lately.
In the codex, it treats the fade like a part of the world, but still really difficult to access under normal circumstances. The deer was dying, so it's possibly a place of healing or maybe stasis? Stasis would make sense with the process of uthenara. There's still the fact that the fade evidently has several layers to it (which is what the dreamers were so obsessed with--gathering all of the information from those layers and getting deeper to gain access to what could maybe be other worlds in a noncorporeal body). That's maybe even how the Evanuris breached their way into Thedas, by gateways within the fade itself.
The notion of the maker is a tougher one to make sense of. There's still the Solas is the accidental maker thing.
