It's like with DQM, only levels are averaged, instead of being squashed down to 1. Skills reset to 1, so there's no point in waiting.

Just don't fuse Mochismo, Enefly, Enerfly, Lafalotta, or Dazzabel into anything before doing their quests.

Personally i think it fosters more resentment then friendship. Especially and particularly when you get a different youkai approach you other then the one you wanted, it feels almost satisfying telling them to fuck off when they arent even the one you were trying to get and it feels like you did everything you could to avoid them and get a specific one.

So I got the game a few days ago and I'm already frustrated as shit about trying to befriend yo-kai....Does it only get worse as the game goes on?

I already snagged myself a Casanova, though I had to fuse it with the gun as befriending one just wasn't working, and I'm abusing food as often as I can and it still feels like its a tiny ass chance to get yo-kai I want.

Not only that, but it also feels like the game has a big fuck you feel when it puts shitty yo-kai you don't want or need infront of the one you do. I refuse to use Babblong's now after befriending 6 of them trying to find and befriend a Chansin for a quest.

Pretty much all you can do is increase your chances, and after maximizing them it still comes down to a crap shoot. You can either fight them and befriend them on the first try or be stuck trying to get them after several dozen fights.

1) The shitty dub. This was what made YW popular in Japan, and as a result was the first foot put forward in the west. Why it got such a godawful dub-job from such godawful localizers continues to baffle me.

2) The oversaturation of advertising: The Nintendo fanbase was in open REVOLT against the advertisements nearly everywhere and the sharp uptick in dislikes on the youtube videos and harsh response on Twitter should have given them a clue to tone it down.

3) "Pokemon Killer" talk. This went unchecked by everyone, and I guess Nintendo/Level-5/Viz saw the term going viral as being a GOOD thing.

4) The concept. Its success made a stateside release inevitable, but it was successful because it was super-Japanese. Investors only saw numbers, though, and ran with it.

A combination of factors. I was going to buy it regardless, but I've been saying since March that nothing short of a miracle would make it work here.

The show is what made the series take off, which is why YW2 is more based on the anime. The dub could be WORSE but that still doesn't mean it's good. I know anons were arguing over localization and whatnot earlier but we all have to agree that a better job could have been done with the dubbing and localization choices.
I wasn't aware that there was such a severe backlash with all the ads though. I knew people were up and arms over "Pokemon killer" and the cringey English ads but if it hits the point were videos on the main account are being downvote bombed, it's up to the marketing team to damage control that shit because that's what they're paid to do.

At this point we'll need some good news trending around social media and not shit like how people are mad at censors. Maybe the Let's Play community will help spike views? We need some positive news for once or we're destined for Niche Gamers only labels, dead generals, and marked down prices at Gamestop.

Some yokai have slightly different stat allocations, that's pretty much the only reason in this game to get them, which isnt much.

The worst that they do is make your youkai list pretty bloated and longer to navigate through.

Take Quaken for example, has above average STR growth but his spirit is abysmal...yet his soultimate is a spirit move. why?

I'm not sure myself. Could be to recycle soultimate animations, or make them more well rounded, like their soultimate may not have the best scaling but it can target an enemy's elemental weakness or damage multiple opponents?

Like it's a way of making them good but not too good? Or maybe it's so you can train them how each individual wants? Different attitudes adjust you stat growth slightly after all. Not a whole lot but enough that it can sometimes make a noticeable difference.
