Personally I think healing is not bad, I play WHM.

Character stats are pretty meh.

There are items that are unique to each crafting profession to create.

There is virtually no build diversity, and no meaningful item diversity. Equipment comes in tiers, so you basically just work your way up a number system (level 50 gear, level 110, level 170, level 210 etc).

Personally I think the appeal of the game is more along the lines of traditional FF with some online elements. The world is detailed, the graphics look good, the music is nice (the sound effects are a bit grating, but that is normal for FF), the storyline is decent and has lots of detailed quests and lore.

If you skip the story and lore like >>386539605 then you'll probably lose interest pretty quick. The core game mechanics are not terribly special and are arguably worse than many games - what FFXIV does better than others is provide a fairly polished product with an interesting world and characters, as well as some of the best writing that I have seen in a game.

The game is bleeding once again. A lot of people hoped that Stormblood would fix the game's issues, but nothing really changed. It still feels completely bland and uninteresting at endgame. It will take quite a hit in the next few months. People had enough of Yoshida's bullshit.

From someone who played FF11 a few months ago when it went on sale for about a month:

In terms of progression and how the job system works, it's honestly what I wanted from FF14, but holy shit, fuck that interface, and fuck all the things that require you to grind a drop for. Getting Summoner was a pain in a half, from having to grind leeches, to showing up when certain weather appears at random (fucking heat wave).

I honestly do like the game from what I played, and I've been considering putting my FF14 sub money into it on months without a major patch, but it really shows its age. I hope some day we'll get something like it, except with a more modern interface along with more avatar customization options, because that was another point that was lacking, and hopefully less things that require you to grind shit that has about a 1% chance of dropping.

I've never played WoW for comparison, but I've been having fun as a white mage main. Red Mage is fun too, but you wouldn't be able to play that until Level 50 if you have the expansion.

I've got some complaints (the base game story is kind of "eh" and you'll spend about 50 levels in it, and there's some weird design choices in early game dungeons), but I feel like I always get my money's worth with my monthly subscription.

There's a free trial that lets you play a fair amount, with no time limit, so you could try that. WoW has long since surpassed 150 million unique accounts (not including free trials) but the subscriber base fluctuates somewhere between 3 million and 10 million depending on the content cycle.

I mean, I'm not trying to mislead or deflect or anything here. It's going by Lodestone characters, yes. It's going to have a higher number of listings than there are players, so you can't really use it as an absolute statistic about the number of players. It also includes trial characters, alts, gilspammers, everything.

The real value there was active players, which basically counts the number of players who have reached the current expansion.

I played it a bit when it first came out and didn't really get into it, but no.

It's actually one of the few MMOs that deviates pretty heavily from the WoW model, I would say, along with games like Secret World.

It was more like Skyrim with linear progression instead of being open world, and with cooldown-based abilities.

I think in one of the updates they released since it came out they did away with the linear progression to make it more open world, but I never did go back to try it out again.
