Basically Sybil wanted to scissor with Red (good taste tbqh) and was rebuffed. Sybil suggested that the Transistor absorb Red next to her fellow camarata in spite (she told them Red would be alone while knowing that The Man would definitely be with her)

The camarata attack. The Man goes into the Transistor and becomes a part of it instead of Red becoming one of those abilities the Transistor has on accident. Without the Transistor the process go insane. Turn Sybil into a monster. Then the two buttbuddies in the camarata commit suicide together. And the only one of the bunch not explicitly gay (if memory serves) is also the only one trying to do anything.
>>
>>385581208
So Sybil fucked up. Proof that /u/ is not always good.

Grant and Asher were heavily implied if not outright stated to be a gay couple, Sybil was a jealous lesbian, Royce was just a pretty cool autist who wanted his work to be appreciated.

People scream "SJW shit" all the time but if anything you could say the game speaks about the dangers of a special snowflake society.

Amazing choice. Right up there but not quite beating Manley as far as character themes go
>>
>>385582341
And then Bastion goes nowhere near any of that. Its about Weapons of Mass destruction. Caeldonia is a parralel to America and the Ura to the Japanese. In the end the choices boil down to basically being pro or against WMDs (pro being restore and anti being eject)
>>
>>385582716

>>385583297
Because WMDs are mostly retarded.

Sure you COULD keep nuking The Ura hoping itd play out different this time (the game does give you some small hope that it could). Or you could just live with the fact that it happened, not make the same mistake, and carry on.

there's pretty much no shitposting in this thread

do you know why?

it's because shitposters aren't talking about the game any more. Contrary to what you believe, nobody wanted this game to fail. There was an immense amount of hype and optimism leading up to the minute of the game's release. It wasn't until a few hours later that the criticism began flooding in.

Now the people who didn't like the game are doing other things. For some reason you seem to think that people have nothing better to do than samefag a dozen times how much they hate this game. That's not how it works. The people who didn't like the game aired their grievances already. Nobody sticks around for a dozen threads to hate on a game they honestly don't give much of a shit about.

People tried out the game, didn't like it, posted about how disappointed they were, and moved on.

I honestly don't even know why I'm still here. It's probably because I forced myself to finish the game despite liking it.

not like it matters, Pyre discussion is already dying out. That's what happens when you have mediocre gameplay wrapped around oregon trail. Half this thread is transistor discussion. In another few days Pyre threads will hit page 10 without any replies. There's only so much circlejerk a mediocre game can sustain

Pyre discussion is dying out because it's a small story base indie game that doesn't even last 20 hours yet somehow managed to make it a week of threads on /v/. (Transistor didn't even come close to that, it had threads for like 2 1/2 days.)

It's just pretty much run it's course at this point. No reason to have regular threads unless they decide online multiplayer.

Criticism disappeared entirely for like 5-8 hours each day. It didn't go down steadily or have a remotely normal trend. A vast majority of it was ungenuine.

There is no pause like Transistor, but I would call it more like playing Transistor without using Turn() and doing the combat real time, which was always an option in Transistor and neat for some abilities. Pretty similar to that. Except it is also the space jam.
>>
>>385586906
>A vast majority of it was ungenuine.
you are legitimately in denial if you believe this. This is the worst kind of attitude you can take on /v/. Blindly denying criticism under the banner of "ungenuine" or "it's just the same person" is dumb fanboyism. Like I said before, nobody gives enough of a shit about this game to hang around and shitpost 24/7. People say they dislike the game, then they move on.

I'm only here because although I didn't like the game, I actually managed to finish it, and want to give my opinions to anybody who's interested in this game in the cesspool of circlejerking.

>>385586954
you'll find out very, very quickly whether you like this game or not. If you don't like the first couple of battles, you're not going to enjoy it.
>>
>>385586259
Ok I will be honest when I was playing it the first time I didn't really comprehend it. I got the calamity part and the ura war part but the restoration part I didn't get.
>>
>>385587051
I'd say Pyre's is deeper in a Smash Bros kinda way. Like sure, you just press b to chuck the ball when you have it. But there's so much you can do with just that.
>Throw it down in your aura and defend yourself
>Toss it in the goal
>Toss it to an opponent to make them vulnerable
>Throw it down the map for yourself
>Fake out opponents

Plus with Pyre you have to execute it all in real time. Transistor has more possibilities with the combat but since so many of them are viable I don't know if it's necessarily deeper.

Both beat the mega safe shield of The Kid though.
>>
>>385587224
> If you don't like the first couple of battles, you're not going to enjoy it.
Absolutely the wrong approach. It is an extremely slow build and basically until after the first liberation it still introduces new things to you. The first few rites are basically no implication on how things will be.
>>
>>385587080
I mean, its basically fantasy basketball.

Its not the fastest paced thing ever, but definitely more actiony than strategic tho there is strategy
>>
>>385587237
Transistor had ludicrous amounts of customization of abilities and ability sets and then combining them together, each ability also functioning differently in Turn() or real-time and a huuuge swathe of combinations that were all viable but excelled against different enemy types. Plus really vamped up NG+ encounters and Limiter customization.

It's a super meaty combat system.
>>
>>385587224
Definitely not.

I mean if you don't like the basic mechanics, then sure that won't change. But basing your enjoyment on the first few games of the story is a terrible idea.

The AI basically rolls over and lets you win until the first ascension rite. Especially if you play on normal or, God forbid, lower.
>>
>>385587080
Yes.

They keep introducing things to the combat for I'd say over half of the game though. It starts out a little basic and the the AIs admittedly stay too easy as they're introducing the enemy teams the first time.
>>
>>385587395
What he's saying is Pyre isn't complex mechanically. You have pretty basic maneuvers. And character customization isn't nearly as deep as Transistor.

But what you can DO with those maneuvers in action is where things get deeper.

You can also get a happy ending by liberating him in the final rite. He was stunned by the mercy we had showed him and pledged help the Plan however he could. Ends up becoming a doctor and living with Ti'Zo, if you happened to liberate him as well.
>>
>>385587438
And then toward the end they're like "oh so you think you got a handle on this now, eh? Here's this Oralech guy, he's gonna show you how to jam."
>>
>>385587503
I feel like a lot of people never did much in real-time in Transistor, which on just NG I guess works, but NG+ you definitely want to start flowing from real-time into Turn() and back a lot more often and a lot more fluidly, and specifically to utilize how certain abilities work in one or the other. Getting a Void() on is much better in real-time to then capitalize on it in Turn() for example. If you try to play more real-time in Transistor you'll probably find it a lot closer to Pyre.
>>
>>385587529
Sure, that works too. But still, its nice to have an option to not ascend him and not have him kill himself. Hell, if Volfred remains in Downside, they even bury the hatchet down the line and become friends again

Wonder what happens if you make peace with him then ascend him with Volfred on the surface? I guess just showing him mercy is probably enough to make him change his mind about Volfred?
>>
>>385587672
I do a lot of action in real time but it's mostly towards keeping me alive for Turn()

Fuck I need to replay this game and Bastion and then rehit Pyre.
>>
>>385587303
>>385587402
No. The rites get more complex and difficult, but the fundamentals don't change, and neither will your enjoyment of it. If you don't enjoy the combat, making it more difficult will not make it more enjoyable.

I've said before that Pyre is best thought of as its own genre, like 4X or fighting games of SCHMUPS. People know whether they like 4X games of fighting games of SCHMUPS. If someone doesn't like a 4X game, bumping up AI difficulty will not make them like it more. If someone doesn't like fighting games, pitting them against harder opponents won't make them like it more. If someone doesn't like SCHMUPS, increasing the bullet count won't make them like it more.

I spent 4-5 hours on Pyre and didn't like it, but finished it anyway because fuck it was only 10 hours long. I didn't enjoy the game any more in the last 8 hours than I enjoyed it in the first 2 hours. I didn't enjoy the game on Normal and I didn't enjoy it on Hard and I didn't enjoy it on Hard + Titan stars. Honestly now I wish I just turned it down to easy because I would've been done with it quicker.

You either like Pyre or you don't.
>>
Is Oralech the Zulf of Pyre when it comes to decisions

>>385587819

Oralech is actually successful at being divisive it seems
>>
>>385587935
I mean the people literally chant "cast yourselves down" and all that shit, but you'd think Oralech would step up and call out Brighton personally by his actual name and there'd be a reference to Brighton reacting to him or something, but much like in Downside there's barely any acknowledgement by the Voice of Oralech and their past.
>>
>>385587893

I kept Hedwyn until final rite and kept Ti'Zo forever and it was pretty great. Jodi and Rukey went up early (after settling it with Barker) because they also laid great groundwork up there.

Hedwyn was just too much of the Master-General to go early.
>>
>>385588035
I doubt Oraclech would know the Voice is Brighton, maybe he would recognize his voice but only people who've read the book of rites know that readers that ascend can become the Voice

Oralech states that the plan is something he and Volfred came up with. The plan is another reason Volfred wanted to avoid the voice's notice

so how is this game? im considering picking it up on the artstyle alone.
>>
>>385588636
And now you know why it's the Zulf of this game.
>>
>>385588689
It's 70% living in a beautiful story book and 30% the space jam.
>>
>>385588559
That's pretty good yo but I like the non acoustic version it gives me bastion vibes in some parts of the songs just like snake soul
>>
>>385588689
The space jam is fun. Probably about 45-50% of the entire thing. The first few matches are pretty basic so you can pick up the fundamentals. A lot of people find it a few matches too many which is fair but they just keep adding layer on layer to the onion for like half the game.
The Oregon Trail segments are mostly good writing and good art. But there's some decision making, some of it is cosmetic, some of it can affect your next match, game makes you make a lot of hard decisions too, the hard decisions affect both story and gameplay in a really creative way. (I dont want to spoil it)

>>385588729
It's that much at the start but later in the game it swings more in favor of the space jam I feel like
>>
>>385588901
desu agreed, but the acoustic version caught me by surprise in game after listening to the regular one so many times

According to the book readers on the path to enlightenment will eventually become a/the voice. Remember Sandalwood was brought in to replace Brighton and Volfred served as both reader and one part of the triumverate during the rites(he was explicitly stated to have worn the rainments before)
>>
>>385589113
She's been in there for so long she's actually looped back around. And based her symbol off of their symbol.
>>
>>385589032
I don't have the game yet so this is news to me but that's good to hear I wonder what other songs will probabaly be realesed as a seconed soundtrack of extra songs in Pyre just like in transistor
>>
>>385589127
But its not some mystical thing. Its just whoever is in charge.
The current voice is just one of the leaders of the commonwealth. Him saying you could be the one to replace him wasn't anything mystical. It was just him offering you a job.
>>
>>385589113
The symbol is the mark of a reader isn't it? Hedwyn and co identify you as one based on its presence on your cloak
>>
>>385589194
If you click the lute that is sitting in your wagon it has a shitload of acoustic versions of songs apparently. I assumed it was just a sound test and then some anon in another thread told everyone
>>
>>385589127
Yes dude, I posted that screenshot last thread. But that doesn't mean that the privilege is exclusive to Readers, and I don't recall Brighton being mentioned as a reader, nor is one necessary for every triumvirate. I'm also not entirely sure its ever said Volfred did serve as a Reader and not literally just a rites conductor. He just happens to be able to read and had a lot of time on his hands, but since he "conducted the rites firsthand" he has the regular way out, while the On Legacy page specifically says there's a one-shot at the end of the age for Readers who do not conduct firsthand.
>>
>>385589194
They'll have their hands full releasing all the variants.

The Liberation Rite song has 20 versions at least, since it has different lyrics for every Triumvirate you face, and then a different backing track behind those lyrics depending on if the Nightwings are currently ahead or the others are currently ahead.

The credits song must have hundreds of possible combinations, even.
>>
>>385589301
ah cool what other songs from the soundtrack also have acoustic versions
>>
>>385589298
It would make sense since the Commonwealth marked Volfred with it aswell then (on his forehead) but makes it weird for the Beyonders to have it as sigil, since they were Sisters of the Arch.

>>
>>385590168

>>
>>385589792
>>385589863
Weren't the Beyonders assassins before reading was outlawed and the outlawing of reading was because of them or something?
>>
>>385590224
They were alive before the 8 scribes were the 8 scribes
>>
>>385590223
>>385590168
Yeah it's a completely unique version. Most of it is in duet, aswell, whereas the people left behind in the ingame one are usually a solo voice.
>>
>>385590224
The outlawing of reading was by Androbeles VI because it caused unrest (and made the party line they forced people like Volfred to teach easier to contradict) in the Commonwealth.

The Sisters of the Arch were trained assassins that willingly plunged to Downside in pursuit of Soliam Murr when he was a shit emperor to go and kill him, and found him shortler after Ha'ub did, a changed man. But they didn't care, or at least Sandra didn't.

Other Scribes showed up cause Khaylmer Rope-Caller had tricked them and ended up saving Soliam.
>>
If you aren't able to do all 8 training missions with Sandra, like say, you ascend _ae during the first ascension before she even gets offered the chance, will you be able to take Sandra with you at the end?
>>
>>385590465
Sandra offers people the chance when they reach Enlightenment 3, so its up to you to influence it. Plus you get to send your top 3 enlightened (or anyone who is at max if more than 3 are at max), and chances are that'll put her at 3+.

Maybe they'd only do the Enemy team has advantage version of each one
>>
>>385593494
There's at least 20 I think.

There's one version of just the lyrics for each Triumvirate including Nightwings/True Nightwings and the Beyonders picked on who you are facing, and then those lyrics are underlaid with a backing track based on whether you're winning or they are winning, with the Nightwings theme or the adversaries theme becoming dominant in the background.

>>385593956
I mean, in a sense theres only 2 versions of Bound Together.

The "They stayed true til the end" verse and the "They found their way home" verse. And the melody and instrumentation is the same for both

Never to Return has different melodys and instrumentation for every single team, with 2 versions of the song for each match up, with the team that has the advantage having their theme be stronger.

Its much bigger in scope than Bound Together
>>
>>385591432
>>385591981

desu your qualms are focusing on minor quirks of the game, that are not even the worst part of why this game is so underwhelming. SGG advertised this game as a party based RPG, which is completely a lie. It has nothing of RPG to it, if you say otherwise you may be retarded or ignorant. The game is visually stunning, and the soundtrack doesn't fall short from other SGG titles. Yet all this is ultimately undermine by how lame the gameplay is, I can't emphasize enough, if you are thinking of refunding it because of it, do it now, because it ain't changing. All you saw in the tutorial is all there is to the game's gameplay. The game will add obstacles and some other minor changes to the field, but the AI can't even alter the way it behaves based on this. I'm so disappointed and aghast that SGG decided to spawn this shit after practically two 10/10 games.
>>
>>385594105
No. Stayed True To The End is a unique version that is NOT ingame. It's exclusively on the soundtrack and the "Stayed True To The End" line is usually sung in duet.

The line for people you did not liberate in the actual game is "And remained till the end", and is usually sung by only one of the voices.
>>
>>385594176
I mean its rpg elements are not deep by any stretch of the word, but to say they are non-existent would be wrong too.

Characters gain experience through use and level up, allowing them to learn new skills. And you can upgrade their stats with items, events and accessories to improve their performance.

>>
>>385595892
In my ending she met with Rukey and Bertrude up top. Tamitha didn't write back, but Pam still wrote her to fuck with her and "stir her feathers" or some shit.

True to the end is only on the OST.

I don't really think its possible to get any sort of happy ending for her becuase she's only happy 1) topside and 2) with her sister. But that means letting her sister topside and then it's not happy either.

Make sure you play with a controller on Heightened difficulty. The game is too easy with a mouse and takes a while to pick up either way.
>>
>>385606327
Or he can play properly with a lot more fluidity with a mouse and just activate the AI Titan Star.
>>
>>385606402
Mouse aiming makes things too easy IMO. The game really feels like it was made for controllers but the devs didn't have the guts to say "only play this with a controller". It's the Flinthook situation all over again.
>>

>>
>>385606473
That's because forcing someone to use an inferior system of control is super frustrating to the player. If they literally want to aim a certain way but can't because you're forcing their controls to be too bad to let them that's not difficulty, that's just garbage.

I probably would've liked Bastion a whole lot less if I had had to go through the agony of aiming ranged weapons with a fucking analogue stick because its a constant frustration.
>>
>>385602440
To my knowledge it is physically impossible. You cannot have a truly 100% happy ending with both of them. It's bittersweet no matter what.
>>
>>385608515
I mean, it's a happy ending because that's the only way for them to properly reconcile and for Tametha to let go off her grudge - so it's kind of happy? Pamethas' story is melancholic regardless of what you do I guess. I wonder what happens if they both stay in Downside.
>>
>>385608628
It's not, though. Her obsession with her sister is unhealthy. She ends up ruining her life to get that reconcilation, and it's a hollow one at that. That's the point of that ending.
>>
>>385608438
That's what a lot of games are about though, right? Soccer is about using an inferior control system: your legs. It would be another game if you had to use your arms.

Bastion, I think, actually works better with a mouse.
>>
>>385572258

No. Volfred explains ingame how it works, too.

>wyrms can swim from their ocean kingdom to the commonwealth

They can't. The text can be confusing becuase they're always referred to as "of the Sea-Dominion", but in Downside they're just living in the Sea of Solis. The Sea-Dominion is properly topside.

Considering the guy you sent during the final liberation literally turns into a star on his way up and the journey apparently also takes quite some time it seems to not really be an above/below situation but something more mystical.
>>

You also have to consider the fact there are other planes of existences, as stated by Yslach being a thing, the Scribes have become the stars, and that there's a massive hole in the sky.
>>
>>385619382
Does Commonwealth have the same sky?

However, in that case, it doesn't make any sense that you can GET there geographically. Otherwise, literally no one should be able to survive the trip into the Downside.

Have you seen the Red figurine they sell in the SGG store? I wonder if her Transistor is one of the Transistor USB drives they have, too.
>>
>>385619608

In that case, there'd be no point in clipping the wings of the Harps.
>>
>>385619689
I heard the old dog gives Almer his spot?
>>
>>385619760
I think they do that out of cruelty and also containment reasons until they actually get to sentencing.

The messenger-imps are amphibious to get as close as they do and the harps aren't, so the wings wouldn't help much by themselves.
>>
>>385619750
I have the figurine. It's not a USB Transistor. They'd be quite a bit too small.
>>
>>385619671
>>385619736
Guys, the well is a teleporter. It make more sense if you think it like that.
>>
>>385619836

The problem is the tempests. You can only get so far because of them.
>>
>>385619807
Oh, maybe, I didn't give them the chance.
They do still get separated. And I'm not sure if they do that because of the whole Erisa and Orech thing. I dont even know if it's an option
>>
>>385619837
I hope they sell a Nightwings shirt soon. Maybe Ti'Zo in full raiment plushies. The Bastion Anniversary shirt looks super neat but I'd have to have a fairly big order to justify international shipping costs.
>>
>>385619851
But you can still exile people to Downside even though the are no longer liberation rites or ways to escape back.
>>
>>385572258
Is this game good?
I'm tempted to buy it because I loved Bastion and Transistor but I can't unerstand what's going on in the trailer.
Any similar game to compare it to?
>>
>>385619851

The Shimmer-Pool is not teleportation, as we see the process of it. Furthermore, it doesn't explain how one GETS to the Downside. Besides, if it was teleportation, there'd be literally no risk in drowning.
>>
I heard this game is like 75% reading
>>
>>385619942
You get exiled by being thrown into the river Sclorian and floating down there and ending at the salt flats or whatever they are.

You get up via Shimmer-Pool at the Fall of Soliam, where the river somehow flows upward.
>>
>>385619968
>Any similar game to compare it to?
No.

It's 70% living in a beautiful storybook and 30% the space jam.

>>385620007
It's impossible to play this game if you're not a Reader.
>>
>>385620029

Which, again, makes no sense geographically.
>>
>>385620029
That still doesn't explain where Commonwealth and Downside exist compared to each other.
>>
>>385619942
So, let's say the Downside and Commonwealth is two seperate planet(or star) not far from each other because the imps can fly back and forth. The waterfall in the Downside is a teleporter, as well as the one they use in the Commonwealth to send people down.

I think this is the correct anwer. Beware autism incoming
At first I tought that the downside was actually the purgatory where the souls of the dead ended up when they had some regret or misdeeds left behind. Only trough a path of belief one could be redimeed and ascend to heaven. Both the menestrel and the gate guardian are seraphs meand one to guide and the other to judge the "exiles" during their journey.

No, the entry point is being thrown down river and arriving exactly where the reader arrived in the flats near the prairie. It's the river Sclorian.
>>
>>385619968
it's good but hard to compare to other things
the gameplay part is 3 on 3 space jam
characters can jump, dash and do a ranged attack with each race having unique versions of each ability
you pass the 'ball' and try to make it into the enemy goal to do damage based on how you dunk. If you throw it in you have to charge for full damage. Dunking gets full damage but that character can't be used next round
when you aren't playing basketball it's a story based thing where you take different paths and talk to the characters for bonuses and story

In essence "None can cross the boundary except by liberation, but the messenger-imps can get closer than most. Then my agents on the other side, using hidden paths a smuggler such as Rukey might know, risk their lives sending and retrieving the missives carried by the imps and spreading word to the sons and daughters of the revolution."

Also note the messenger-imps are stated to be amphibious as a requirement for making it.

>>385621656

Why would you think people forgot about the Reader when the credits deliberately say they tried to keep their legacy as the Reader of the Nightwings alive to avoid that very thing?
>>
>>385621530
True but it's much harder for adults to learn than children. Hedwyn probably never became a natural at reading.
>>
>>385621326
Volfred and Bertrude have a very close friendship, with Bertrude having romantic feelings for Volfred that he knows about but doesn't share, and you can get a scene where they come to an inner peace about this. Bertrude and Pamitha are friends because they are both misanthropes. Ti'Zo is friends with Volfred because they were original Nightwings. Ti'Zo is also friends with Chae, and Pamitha is also friends with Rukey. Both Ti'Zo and Volfred are friends with the Reader though.
>>
>>385621656

My Bertrude was top, Volfred bottom. No and honestly I think that's the point. The Scribes talk a lot of shit in their books, to the point where it's natural to realise that they have no idea what they're talking about half the time. Because NOBODY does. And Downside and the Commonwealth are exactly the same kind of deal. Nobody truly knows, but everyone has a theory.

>>385622692

>>385622692
It's a mystical Hell Dimension you can't leave, which you can only enter via one single river that apparently goes nowhere. Creatures that fly and swim can get close to the barrier but not cross it. Objects CAN cross the barrier.
>>
So have I missed something or is there no recursion in this story, ie. no ng+? Game just keeps sending me to the final liberation.
>>
>>385622838

>>
>>385623004

I think it's more "only objects imps can carry" because you need to be amphibious.
>>
>>385623004
It pisses me off that it never mentions the Sahrian Union floating relief aid crates/barrels of helpful shit down the river for the people left in the downside. It is more than in their power to do so if the Commonwealth could send people down it.
>>
>>385623132

I think it's more that the river is just that fucked up that it'd just be lost.
>>
>>385623004
Newspapers and letters seem to be okay. I can't see why the Union won't send stuff to make living in the Downside more comfortable for everyone down there now that everyone seem pretty chill.
>>
>>385623004

Staying in an Alcove doesn't really make for a society, ignoring just how far you have to travel to get to some place LIVABLE. There are places to build, sure, but there's no real place for humans.

You could build a cave-based society, where people stay inside during the storms.

>ignoring just how far you have to travel to get to some place LIVABLE
That's fair, but I think that an organized Downside effort could ferry people from the entrance to the temperate north.

>There are places to build, sure, but there's no real place for humans.
You can't build surface-style cities, true, but I think you could still build a fairly comfy civilization. Fish and mushrooms can serve as food sources. Imps could power machinery.
Imp Punk. As a last resort you could also create nomadic caravan cities.

Remember that after a few years human turn demon so they're far more fit for survival down there afterwards. On the long term demons would replace humans.
