There's 4x as many people who have played the prime games than have played the 2D games. And some of them come into Metroid threads and bitch about the 2D games. That's not saying the 2D exclusive fags are without blame. A lot of the Prime fags get triggered by the 2D idiots. But once they get triggered, there's far more 3D fags who show up. I would too. And I skipped buying Link Between Worlds for a long time because it wasn't true 2D. But I eventually played it and it really surprised me. It is a worthy successor to the 2D games. I would even go so far as saying I like it more than LttP.

That being said, I would like a return to 2D. Especially a remake of Zelda 2. After Metroid I and II are getting this treatment, there's no excuse anymore.

I also stopped playing AM2R the moment I saw that the suit design was modeled after the one in Other M.
I love Metroid, (everything up to Other M ranges from ok to amazing status) but the series is so fractured and has such an identity crisis that its hard to get excited.

I have never finished the NES and the Gameboy game, because I think they aged like shit. But I played Super, Fusion, Zero Mission and all the Primes a dozen times and love them

Other M is a sequel to Super Metroid. As bad as it is, it could have been good if they did a remake on Other M. Put the first person view on the controller and third person combat on the TV screen, removing the horrible switching. Then remove the pixel hunts and cutscenes. Have Hip Tanaka redo the music. Nope. You can play the original. I'd say it's very worth it if only to experience a piece of the series' history. It's not a great game, but it's pretty good and does some interesting things. I enjoy it, despite it's sometimes bullshit difficulty and design choices.

Yeah, it lifts assets from the more recent 2D games. yeah, it obviously isn't the work of a AAA studio with millions in budget. But it does have original art so it's not totally lifted, and far more importantly it flawlessly demonstrates how the series can keep doing new things and avoid getting stale without Nintendo's misguided gimmick-focused thinking. It may be a bit of a mess artistically, but in terms of game design it's easily on par with the official games.

My biggest issue with AM2R's visuals is that they use sprites and pixely graphics, but none of the sprites stay on the fucking grid and it uses modern lighting and other visual effects that clash with the pixel-art.
I genuinely hate it when sprites rotate and scale off the grid and when you see wavy effects in a low-res pixel game like this.
It plays well, but it's hard not to notice this shit.

Meh. I find the angular shape of the chestpiece a little too much and I don't like the contrast with it's shoulderpads, but other than that I"m really pretty neutral on the Other M design. Half its problem was the awkward stance and animation samus had in the cutscenes.
