First phase is brainwashed Callie doing a sinister remix of her solo song from the first game with DJ Octavio
Second phase is Marie doing a heroic remix of her solo song from the first game while trying to snap Callie out of it
Final phase is them reuniting and doing a remix of the final boss theme from the first game together

Fucking. Brilliant.

Shame the actual fight is kind of underwhelming compared to the first game. I guess it's kind of appropriate thematically for it to be remixing the final boss from the last game, but still. Kind of disappointing that the scale of it seems to have taken a step backward.

Thankfully Marie came in and saved the day with her song as usual.

The problem with the fight is that there was zero platforming or worry about the stage, it was all just flat and safe.

Yeah. The final boss in the first game was great because it combined all of the elements and mechanics that the player had just spent the entire gaming learning, and combined them into long and challenging encounter. It was surprisingly great.

In Splatoon 2, it just feels like a watered down rehash of that fight that lacks many of the elements that made it great. Octavio loses a lot of his tricks, and even then the new stuff he does is not nearly as threatening.

That being said, I love the look/spectacle of the final phase a lot.

Turf War is a pretty shit mode, get to rank 10 then jump onto real modes in Ranked.
Losing you might get less reward than playing Turf War, but winning is a massive bump, like 3x the rate of rewards.

Get all the weapons unlocked first before worrying about gear. 2 makes it easier to get nice gear with the right stats.

Play tactical, unless you're stuck in TW, since you can lose because nobody is designated to clean up.

Use a buddy system, it's stupid effective how outnumbering every encounter works, least of all for securing the turf in the case of both teams taking casualties. Just stick to someone if you're not busy with a niche weapon/role.

Charger seems to be mostly a punishment for bad team compositions, like all duelies - but if you have more than one charger, your team is seriously going to be weak comp wise itself. Always play with a friend if you can, otherwise stick to shooters or rollers if you're confident with them.

Treat it like a shotgun in other games.
That means, don't spam the trigger and hope it hits, line up the shot first and then pull the trigger twice as fast as you can. You can afford to take a few hits to get your aim right if it means not flubbing the shots because you're spamming fire.
Also what the other guy said, you want to hit them with the main blob and not the tail so don't try to arc the shots too much because it doesn't work too well. Aim dead center unless they're right at the edge of its range.

I knew some top ranked players from Splatoon1, all of whom used motion controls. Some of them played standing up. So if you're struggling with them try standing.

In Splatoon 1 I used sticks for the longest time because I was asscheeks at the gyro controls. I did eventually start to pick them up at higher levels though, but I was completely out of practice again when it came time for the test fire.
