Grimoire is coming, bros. I can feel it releasing any second

Grimoire is coming, bros. I can feel it releasing any second now. Based Cleve is just making sure he's done with the very last few pico-issues. Besides, this delay is brilliant if you think about it, it's just giving him and his game more publicity and creating even more anticipation, while weeding out the weak-minded fools that don't believe in him like we do. The new era of RPGs is almost here. His wife and son will be so proud of him.

IT'S RELEASED QUICK CHECK THE PAGE
>>
>Cleve, twenty years ago

15/11/97
I come from an era when speed was everything - to survive as an
independent contractor you had to be superhuman, there was no choice, it
was pure necessity. Most of today's stable programmers are like plump,
well-fed poodles who sleep on satin cushions compared with the lean, mean
school of 8K boundaries and hidden ROM storage I cut my teeth in. It is a
hideous nightmarish world of sleeplessness, instant noodles, jolt cola
and keeping the front door jammed with your foot against your landlord
while screaming long distance you know damn well the game is selling, you
were just in Sears and their computer department said it was going off
the shelf as fast as they could stock it, where the hell is the royalty
check?!? In this Darwinian world of games design, most modern programmers
are like ALF or E.T. whereas I would be more like the Queen Egglayer from
ALIENS.

***
Grimoire is now 250,000 lines of extremely trim, packed code! And it has
been seriously optimized lately to eliminate a lot of code that was
replaced with more efficient C++ objects!! The executable is 900K!! The
combat module is 50,000+ lines by itself!!

Sir-Tech has had nearly 17 years of development of the Wizardry series,
no author after Andrew Greenberg ever started from scratch for them. All
of them, even David Bradley, built on existing code and enhanced it. I am
the only person in the universe since the Big Bang who has ever written a
first-person RPG this complex by himself from scratch with no help,
encouragement or aid from anyone in the galaxy except me while holding
down a full-time job.

RPGs are really HARD compared with other genres. I am not asking for
pity, again, but believe me if you'll just think about how many problems
could pop up when God was creating the world, you'll get some idea of the
difficulties posed for someone who is merely superhuman like myself. The
details go on and on like a bad dream.

than 12 months, easily the most complex and enjoyable computer fantasy

Who have you worked with in the past who has given you the impression they are competent to test a game of this size and complexity with an entire team of Q&A people paid to be on the job 24/7? That person lied to you, it's Dunning Kruger. They don't even realise what is being talked about.

In my final once-over before making up the Steam package I discovered one thing after another. Nothing major or crashing or even a glitch that would keep you from finishing the game. Just some things I should do before releasing it. I am working on it around the clock now, it will be out shortly. It was predictable IF you understand how big and complex the game is.

THE INCLINE COMETH
>>
>>383279632
They had bigger brains, which Cleve interprets as them being smarter. But brain size isn't the main defining property of intelligence, brain complexity (in physical terms, how many bumps and twists the brain has) is far more important. Which is, for example, why dogs are -way- more intelligent than koalas.

There's very little proof of Neanderthal intelligence. They had no culture, no written language of any kind, and it's even highly debated whether they even had a spoken language. Nobody knows for sure, but if they were smart they sure didn't leave behind anything to prove it.

There's some evidence that they interacted and even interbred with Sapiens on a somewhat notable scale, which to me would suggest that they were able to relate to Sapiens on at least some basic level, but I don't believe for a second that they were as smart or even smarter.

I will literally record a video of me going town on my knees and apologizing to Cleve for every single negative comment I ever made about him and his game if that ever happens, and publicly upload it to Youtube for everyone to see. Feel free to fucking screenshot this.

Unless that actually happens though, I will keep treating him like the autistic subhuman failure he is and will keep calling out his game for being a fucking mess that will never be released.

This game is going to be amazing once released, every npc will have a rich interaction with the world, and enemy encounters can be solved with numerous ways, even convincing some enemies to help you on your journey. The system is what happens if you take negotiating with demons in Shin Megami Tensei and multiply that by the number of words in the bible. I have been testing this game for around 5 years, and each test copy I got up until the almost finished product was packed full with even more detail. The 600+n hours are for the main story line and Party member quests alone. But that doesn't even begin to touch the scope of the game, you can raise up your own city and build your dungeon underneath to then share with other players. Their is a rich political and religious tapestry that covers the city building aspect of the game. The other features are just as in depth and easily add another 500 hours for a complete run.

There is something uniquely damaging in the practice of eroding a man's faith either in another man or in God himself. I do not by any means equate you to God, but people have indeed put faith in you. You have attacked that faith, viciously, and gone so far as to grind it into the dirt with your boot heel. Funny thing about faith; once lost, it tends not to come back. God have mercy on you, Cleve, for this was your calling (I think -- it is within each man himself to know for sure).

I'm trying to tell you that even if you did pull off some kind of miracle now, it may not matter. The ill-will likely outweighs any faith that was still there.

There's no market in pandering to morons. I wouldn't want to make that kind of money.

Grimoire is an elite game that is unlike anything else up on the Steam store. I defy you to find anything like it in the thousands of games listed. I defy you to find a game like it on the planet. It's not even a Wizardry clone really - it's everything Wizardry should have been but never was.

I'm not competing with Sir-Tech any more. Amongst other reasons, they went bankrupt 17 years ago.

I'm not competing with anybody. Grimoire is the pinnacle of the peak of the summit of the incline. I could probably get 99.95 from a lot of people but I don't want to limit it just to the very elect of RPG players. I made a compromise and and priced it somewhere just under current AAA titles. The truth is there is not an AAA title you could buy nowadays that deserves to crawl up on a high chair and plant a kiss in the crack of Grimoire's ass when it comes to enjoyment, immersion and wonderful escape.

I say all this with confidence because I have been playing my game 12 hours a day for two months and I can assure you there has never been anything like it in all of recorded human history. It's the greatest thing ever to emerge from that genre. The fact is, people who enjoy that genre are considering it cheap at that price. If you are not a connoisseur of the genre then why would I amend anything in it to appeal to you? It's like saying Mozart needed more cowbell.

Trust what I am saying. Those of you who played the demo and got the scent of greatness will know the full game has achieved it. For whatever it lacks it has much more in abundance.

I was just playing Kublai Cathedral to check all the logic and was almost weeping tears of joy at how wonderfully told the story of everything is in the game. I had forgotten a lot of it and it was like reading the work of someone else.

If you can't ship a bug-free game, you shouldn't ship at all. Cleve is absolutely justified in taking his time.

23 years is not a long time to wait for a masterpiece. Imagine if every game took 23 years to develop: No more bugs, no more quick cash-ins. Sure, there'd be fewer games, but the ones we'd have would all be masterpieces.

If they'd spent a few more years on it, it might've turned out good.

The gaming industry has a term called known shippable bugs. They literally compile a list of bugs, say "these ones don't matter", and release the game without fixing them. Because people will give them money anyway.

If people demanded refunds any time they found a bug in a game, no matter how small, this practice would end.

There will always be something we can find and point at to say it's wrong. You mean 1994.

That's when he started "development" on the game, aka passing off the remains of a Wizardry spinoff as his own work.

Also he didn't have a career making dungeon crawlers. He produced a bunch of shovelware garbage for the Commodore 64 in the late 80s and was then hired by Sir-Tech to make a Wizardry spinoff/potential sequel, which he never did so he got sacked.

>also why were they bred to extinction intermingling with homo sapiens? if we are inferior why did we win the game of natural selection
Even supposing neanderthals were superior by some present-day human standard, those aren't necessarily the standards of nature. For starters, evolutionary fitness isn't the same "fitness" used in everyday context but just a representation of reproductive success. If, for example, neanderthal women found cro-magnon men more attractive and mated with them, that means cro-magnons had greater fitness and their alleles got more frequent in the population. Neanderthals are known to have lived in smaller social groups and that would have given cro-magnons a major edge in any interspecies conflicts. Neanderthals were more specialist in their diets (90% meat) and neanderthal populations were always low: the more generalist diet of modern humans would have sustained much larger populations, simply outbreeding the neanderthal. And so on. Sometimes an advantage in biological fitness is an objective handicap from the perspective of an outside observer (peacock's tail comes to mind as an obvious example). Hell, intelligence has a major downside (human brain uses about 20% of the energy we spend) and while I don't think this is the case in the paleolithic period, it's in principle possible that dumber humans were selected for because they had more energy left for making babies.

There's little definite knowledge about neanderthal intelligence in relation to modern humans (they had higher brain volume but lower bloodflow to brains possibly suggesting lower neuron density, neanderthal tools weren't as advanced as those of modern humans but I've read criticism according to which the compared objects might not have come from the same time period etc) but just because we value intelligence and rightly so, it doesn't mean the populations and genes were favored by natural selection when neanderthals and modern humans encountered each other.

None of the most classic games were perfect in any way. Even the first Quake was a few months old rushjob because they couldn't make the RPG work so they made an FPS from remaining resources.
Almost all games look nothing like initial concepts because of polishing the turd forever for a chance to sell any copies they go ahead with a better idea and hack it away well enough to work.

There's nothing more cancerous in the RPG community than IE fanboys.

Yeah they were ok games, but each and every one of them was massively flawed in their own way. The only one that even somewhat stands the test of time without nostalgia is BG2. And worse yet, most IE fandrones have no idea about older games like Darklands or even the Gold Box games.

If enough people get upset about it, Valve will take it down.

However, Grimoire is too niche and unknown for many people to get upset over, and many those that are in the know want to take this wild ride as far as it'll go, so Valve will never even find out the game exists, let alone take it off their store.

making a tb dungeon crawler isn't that big of a technical feat, from a programming pov. The only challenge is making tight design that's new and fun, if you aren't looking to make a clone of an existing dungeon crawler series.

It's extremely easy to do if you want to make a FRUA style game. There is already a freeware, open source engine out there that possesses a slightly higher learning curve than RPG Maker: http://uaf.sourceforge.net/

I have a 4 hour /s4s/ RPG demo I made years ago sitting around on a flash drive somewhere. It took me less than a month to create.

I played through it for the first time earlier this year. Like all M&M games, the only difficulty is in the first couple of hours. After you get your Mage and Cleric buffs, you can just auto combat your way through the rest of the game.
>>
>>383300525
I'm the dude who asked for games to play instead of Grimoire. EO is fun, but it's clearly hot garbage. It's an action based series instead of a story based one. I was looking for a blobber that had NPC interaction and actual towns.

You completely neglected the ideology of EO, though. The creator of the series itself said that he designed it so the player will need to use their own imagination in order to figure out the events/story of party members.

While EO may be a shitty smartphone style game, it picks up on the idea that pen and paper RPGs created. To rely on imagination instead of visual images.

EO is like the generic platformer of blobs. But it's a good series if you have a good imagination and are more focused on action.
....I still want to explore towns and shit though. W7 looks dumb. I hate that early-era 3D polygon shit.

>>383301306
>W7 looks dumb. I hate that early-era 3D polygon shit.

Part 2.

I've been playing Stranger of Sword City instead of W7 or Grimrock (I wanted turn based and not RT in regards to Grimrock, otherwise I'd just play Skyrim). SoSC....is not as good a game as I hoped. I love how brutal it is, but the city parts are pretty much nonexistent.
>>
>>383301306
>But it's a good series if you have a good imagination and are more focused on action
But the maps are uninspired and the combat is complete ass. There is no foundation for "imagination." Furthermore there is plenty of bullshit text and characters in EO, its nothing like the earlier Wizardry's. Its just generic weebshit.

But there is lots of adventure and variety in DnD. EO doesn't have this. Its just doing the same style of map over and over, where there is ZERO chance of getting lost or going in the wrong direction for more than 30 seconds, while taking the same approach to every single situation over and over. How are you even RPing in EO? It's a skinner box of scantily clad anime 6 year olds.

Going with the classical party setup in EO will usually just net you a mediocre party. You'll be able to get through the game like that, but all my parties that really shred through hard content tend to be oddball parties. I love party / character building in EO. There's so much going on there. So many build variations within the individual classes and then you spread that out across 5 more classes and have to think hard how you'll do the formations and what other classes you take to riff of of each other.

Pick unrelated but a fun game.

The problem with EOfags is that they completely misunderstand that a good blobber is:

Worldbuilding+Gameplay. While EO might have good gameplay, the worldbuilding is near-existant marking it more of a proof of concept or a tech demo.
>>
>>383305695
Not him but I hated the character development system. You want all your characters to level up as every class because you want a whole party of super men who can deal damage, wear plate armor, are immune to status effects and can heal, which makes everything feel boring and homogenized.
Combat wasn't that great either. It's mostly a meme game because of the god tier portrait art.
>>
Codexfags all posting I was merely pretending.
You had your fun it is time to go home.
>>
>>383305837
I disagree. Roguelikes usually have no story except the utter basics but they are great dungeon games. Its all about the gameplay for me as long as the gameplay is good. With games with good graphics, atmosphere is also important. But story is really not that important. Just the setting.
>>
>>383305837
What do you mean by worldbuilding?
>>
>>383305837
>muh lore

No.
>>
>>383305837
Wizardry games had shit world building before the Dark Savant trilogy, outside of 4
>>
>>383305695
It's mostly just generic and uninspired.

Poor level design with little to no interesting features, shitty anime story, not much depth in character development, etc.

Most of the game is just grinding as many classes as possible. The game lets you switch classes at pretty much any time, but you only have a limited number of switches so if you want to be for example a Samurai you first have to grind out all supporting classes you want to take skills from and then switch to Samurai in the end so you can finally play what you want to play. Also the game has a shitty age system where your character's stats depend on their age, but there's literally no reason not to make everyone 99 years old because it gives the best bonuses. There's a lot of seemingly harmless shit like that which if you look at the big picture just makes it clear that the devs had no fucking clue what they were actually designing.
>>
>>383306171
Dark Savant was shit, but good in a campy way. Same as Might & Magic and Ultima. The fantasy/sci-fi hybrid world building is laughably awful. Not something I'd consider a must in my blobbers by any stretch of the imagination, however.

The reason is that a lot of M&M games, Wizardry games etc. have a lot of references to our idioms, culture etc. For a Jap of that time to understand that it would be almost impossible. So they fell in love with the games they could COMPREHEND. Wiz 6 is very heavy on classical literature references and MM3 rips off Tolkien's riddles, but for a typical Jap it would be very hard to think of solutions to these riddles without looking them up in obscure to their culture media.
>>
>>383307239
Might & Magic 3,4 & 5. Might & Magic 6-8.
Wizardry 1-3, 6-8.
The reason I say M&M 4&5 is because you combine both games to make one huge mega game. Sounds like one of those things that "that kid" would tell to prank you, but it's true.

To add more. Japanese didn't get any D&D beyond OD&D and 1st Ed for a while and they're very much stuck in that kind of a mindset - world is not as important to them as the combat and crawl is. If you look at old JRPGs through the lens of OD&D you will notice how much OD&D mindset is in there.

No idea but here is an interesting fact you might not have known:

One of the leading developers on ultima and ultima online, probably one of the most revolutionary online games of all time, was Dr. Cat.

That guy was a furry and he created furcadia which essentially was an early second life like game which basically pushed the entire furry culture into overdrive world wide.

So Origin Systems - in it's time publisher for such revolutionary developers as Bullfrog and Looking glass - not only pioneered online gaming, space sims (wing commander) and role playing games in general but even basically founded internet furry culture.

That's probably not a good thing - but there you go, now you know this as well.

in the light of all of this it is likely that DW bradley was a furfaggot as well

Dweebs will still "play it" cause it's from Canada.

Did that beta from 2013 really have 60 hours of content?

Good news, you can beat the trilogy as much as you want and the game still won't come out.
