They're gonna have it be Open World and ruin Metro. Calling it.
>>
Oh god, I hope not. I just want more Swamp and Library.

Open-world Metro is the one place most people want it to go though

Yep. That trailer screamed open world to me.

The only downside, if they keep the world as detailed as it looks, is the story and characters will take a hit
>>

... what is there to be open world about it to begin with? I mean, you're restricted to short stays above ground, while roaming the metro for the most part.

It's been done a billion times already.

Pretty excited. Multiple ammo types that perhaps aren't just regular boolets and milsup boolets is the most I took away from it. Well that and some of the enemies. Wonder when it launches. And I wonder if it'll have ps4pro support or if ms snakes it out of them. This is gonna be a fun week.

They had said before that they wanted to make it more open world, like the Stalker add-on for M:LL
I wouldn't be surprised if it's not open world, but has more open elements in that there are more paths to take than either one or two like in the first two games

As much as I want STALKER 2, I don't see this going well. Hope it isn't another bland full of nothing open world piece of shit.

Anyone know if they have any of the devs that worked on SoC?

Hey nerds.

Should I read all the novels about Metro that takes place in different countries? They seem cool but I dunno if they're good or not.

I fucking hated that trailer.
So obviously scripted like crazy, not actual gameplay
>>
>>379899210
That's what it should be. Have it work like that DLC, which is really, really good. If they go full open world, I'm done.
Basically, it should be "pseudo open world" like the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but not like Clear Sky or Call of Pripyat

stalker 2 when tho
>>
>>379899337
Most of 4A were former STALKER devs that left prior to SoC's release.
>>
>>379899194
That's what's next.
It was always planned that they were making one more Metro game for the moment before moving onto a space game, because they're tired of working on post-apoc type games for +10 years

>>379899337
4A is mostly made up of GSC Game World employees after they were fired/let go by Sergei after each STALKER game was done.
The guys who made the company were ex-GSC guys themselves

>>379900343
Two official sequels, 2034 and 2035, with plenty of spin off books written by other authors
2033 game and book are for the most part similar, but the game and books branch off into different stories after that
>>
>>379900756
That's the important distinction. Open levels like the DLC are good. Open World itself like Clear Sky is complete shit. And I bet this is gonna be the later. They're gonna ruin Metro.
>>
>>379900570
It might be a meme, but it can be done well. Very, very rarely.

>Metro Exodus is an epic, story-driven first person shooter from 4A Games that blends deadly combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror in one of the most immersive game worlds ever created. Explore the Russian wilderness across vast, non-linear levels and follow a thrilling story-line that spans an entire year through spring, summer and autumn to the depths of nuclear winter. Inspired by the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro Exodus continues Artyom’s story in the greatest Metro adventure yet
>>
>>379901740
Not necessarily, it may mean only Windows 10 users can play it, that means folks on Windows 7 are SOL.
>>
>>379902049
W10 is great, though. I feel no pity for any mustard who is still blindly against it
>>
>>379900756

The point is that it isn't true open world. Its a very large map, with lots of nooks and crannies, but its not open world.

As soon as devs decide to do open world, the flow of a game is compromised. If they have a lot of those big maps where you can search and do stuff, I'd be happy, but fuck going true open worlds.

Will they ditch this idiotic "moral" system at last?
If I wanted a game that treats me as figurative Hitler every time I shoot someone, I'd go replay Dishonored.
>>
Last Light had some great "open area" levels. They were pretty big, had good exploration, and were fun to traverse.

Metro 2033 also had these segments in small part.

If Exodus is in the same vein, well crafted single player levels mostly in the metro's, with good open area exploration segments/levels, I'll be happy.

I really don't want the game to be open world. Though, I'd eat my hat if the game is open world and it was good. If anyone could do it well, it'd be these guys.
>>
I hope they dont have the shitty Artyom VA back. The original From 2033 was best.

>>379902487
>FUCK YOU, STALKERFAGGOTS
Eat shit, I like both games the way they are and I don't mine that M:E is going to be like this at all, but don't deny that an open world Metro game would be great, comprising both a metro underworld and a surface overworld, and make it difficult to the point where you have to carefully plan your routes otherwise you could easily get yourself killed. Being able to decide between going along metro tunnels, take service tunnels, maybe go into some sewers or risk the surface where you have to weave in and out of cover hoping that all the fucked up creatures on the surface don't find you. Being able to explore all the different metro stations and their quirks, etc.
If you didn't want to play an open world game where you can explore the metro at your leisure after reading the book, there's something wrong with you.

I get that you enjoy Metro for being a really well crafted linear experience, but an open world in game in the metro setting could be absolutely fantastic done well

So fucking hype, been starving for another STALKER/Metro after F4 failed to scratch the itch.

They're very different games, of course. But the aesthetic, the horror, the survival elements, that's what I want.

It was that way because GSG overreached and had to cut it down from open world. The only STALKER even remotely close to the original concept was CoP.

Plenty of games have no reason to be open world, but Metro has the world building already in place to create a seriously interesting world to explore

Not him but I've play it plenty. Sure it's made of multiple smaller levels, but you can roam through them freely and go back to any place you have been before. There's no doubt that M:E will have a linear path in that once you've gotten through a level, there's no going back to it.

Exactly, in 2033 and Last Light we kept hearing about places on the surface and they'd thoroughly executed the tunnel-based setting well enough. It was definitely time to move to a new setting, and it looks like it'll be a mix of interior dungeon-ish stuff and overworld things.

Yes it was. Do you even know what open world games are? You could freeroam in any given envrionment. Metro LITERALLY is all corridors.

>Deus Ex series
>The fuck are you talking about? This isn't open world at all

Again, you seem to think an open world game has to be GTA style. It's open as fuck. In HR you can go to any part of the cities at any time after the prologue and quest at your leisure. The original has levels but they're still completely free roam and open ended. Plus you can travel between them freely.

For those of you that actually read 2035: does it mention anything about going on the surface like in the trailer? The trailer said that it was based on 2033/2035.

So what would you describe it as? A linear rpg?

the games open up big time. They may be level based but you can freely explore them before long, find side quests, hidden areas, secret loot and secret routes...

how is it not open world? Would you really describe the environments as linear? I'm starting to question whether you've played them. I'll admit HR is a little more linear but the 1st one certainly isn't.

2033. IMO, original over redux if possible.

Ranger Hardcore is THE way to play the game, but for a first-timer missing some HUD elements and QTE prompts will probably be needlessly challenging. But you owe it to yourself to play the game on the hardest difficulty at some point, it's really great and my first playthrough of 2033 is a fond memory.

>>379898909

They won't get rid of the filters. Some areas are still going to be off limits unless you have a gas mask. They mentioned the air quality improving over time in Last Light as radiation and fallout begin to fade. Plus, you can see how Artyom had to wear a gas mark inside the tunnels. D6 also had you wear a gas mask until the air filters were turned on. Closed off areas like tunnels are still going to require gas masks because they are isolated, meaning fallout and radioactive material isn't going to be removed.
>>
>>379913723
>it is still a linear path you take to progress through the game.

>... what is there to be open world about it to begin with? I mean, you're restricted to short stays above ground, while roaming the metro for the most part.

All the trailer showed was above ground, under bright sun, not wearing a gas mask.

The story is obviously about resettling the surface, you're going to run around the open world building settlements and collecting resources.
>>
>>379918472
look at the smoke in the first magazine from the dirty rounds
It comes out slow and hangs in the air for the while

the smoke in the second mag from military grade rounds comes out very fast and dissipates quickly as well, as well as making a sort of blastwave effect with every round

>>379919507
it's the smoke effects from the gunshots, not what the ammo does itself
Also the animations themselves are very different, in 2033 it looks very weighty and uncontrollable while in Redux Artyom has a near perfect grip on it. The latter could perhaps be more realistic, but the former arguably looks nicer

>>379920157

Loads of author filibustering and infantile "philosophical" musings, none of it relevant, mature or meaningful.
The original Metro 2033 was an enjoyable read because of its setting and a successful blend of post-apocalyptic mystery and survival horror. Glukhovsky, judging by the sequels, thought it got popular because of his all-important opinions on modern society instead.

Metro should try to become Stalker because Stalker is an actually fucking good game series. Since Stalker 2 is fucking dead, 4A Games should turn Metro into Stalker to get that audience and it would also improve on Metro a great deal as well.

Compare the size of the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. with something like Skyrim or Oblivion. Also, Metro is a level-based game, you're not gonna be able to go back to the starting area. It's not an open world game.

What is STALKER, the game that's known for it's incredible immersive atmosphere and that people often compare to Metro for it's atmosphere

>Narrative
What narrative does Metro really have beyond a quiet section or two where you listen to a character speak? That can easily be done in a predefined path within the open world itself

>>379926997
These are poor ukranian slavs, not a AAA dev studio. the animations of the character going through the level might be scripted, but they aren't going to make an incredibly detailed area just for a "gameplay" demo

You can make the library the easiest part in the game. wasn't as interested in stealth my first playthrough (ranger hardcore or w/e it was) and bought that huge fucking semi-auto shotgun. I had a shit load of bullets to spend and bought about 150 shells for it. I walked into the library and blasted away every single librarian in the game with 7ish shots each. They didn't even hit me once.

>What is STALKER, the game that's known for it's incredible immersive atmosphere and that people often compare to Metro for it's atmosphere
You mean the atmosphere that is literally only present in the linear dungeons? The same STALKER where you run faster than doomguy so that traversing the huge empty boring overworld isn't a mind-numbing chore?

STALKER's an alright game but let's not suck its dick too hard.

>That can easily be done in a predefined path within the open world itself
Then what's the fucking point of the open world?

"Every important part of the game will take place in linear environments but you have to walk 5-10 minutes to get there, destroying all flow and pacing, in a boring empty overworld."

Sounds a lot like MGSV. Incidentally, it also sounds a lot like STALKER.

0/10. These games are unplayable on a widescreen monitor because of the uneven mouse acceleration.

If you play them on a square monitor they're on par with the half-life series.

I've finished Shadow of Chernobyl.

It did not live up to the hype.

The overworld consists of empty fields that look like shit where you occasionally get molested by trash mobs. The "atmosphere" is exclusively present in linear dungeons.

>>379929140
No, you could at least try to name multiple games or something contemporary. Just because you quickly googled "actually decent open world games" and threw that out doesn't disprove that open world is 99% shit these days and wanting Metro to go open world is retarded.

>>
>>379930161
Plenty have been named earlier in the thread, you faggots will just argue that they weren't "good" in the first place or don't fit your autistically specific definition of "open world".
>>
>>379929303
>You mean the atmosphere that is literally only present in the linear dungeons?
is being spooked the only thing that amounts to atmosphere to you? There's a lot more to atmosphere than just being on edge because something might pop out at you. STALKER oozes with atmosphere, it's one of the only games where the world actually feels oppressive and like it's actually against you the player

>Then what's the fucking point of the open world?
It's not like that, you could just follow a character through the open world while on a mission, the predefined path being the one the person takes, or they could even follow you as you make your way there

>in a boring empty overworld.
A metro overworld would be incredibly interesting to explore
