Most Eorzeans aren't even aware that they can summon primals. Until Shiva showed up, even the Scions thought that they were the literal beastmen gods being summoned from the aetherial realm, not constructs that anyone can make with enough willpower.

Louisoix actually began summoning primals of each of the Twelve at Carteneau so he could use the gathering aether to stop Dalamud. His plan involved killing himself before the primals would actually manifest, though. Once the primal is manifested, things are fucked and people are going to get tempered.

For reference, Alexander was summoned with a horn exactly like the one on Louisoix's staff which is why he was so absurdly powerful. He would've ended the world in a few days if he took any real action, and there would be no way the WoL would've beaten him if he didn't want it to happen. So summoning some fuckhuge primal to kill Garlemald would just backfire so hard that even the WoL couldn't clean it up.

I struggle to accurately express exactly what I don't like about it beyond saying it feel pretty "clunky". It's probably just my own personal bias against hotkey style MMOs, i've been playing them in one form or another for well over a decade and I think i'm just burnt out on the format.

I do have some more specific complaints, though. I'm not a fan of how similar so many DPS roles seem to play, a lot of them (in essence) fall down to Apply Dots and Press 1-2-3 rotation. Not to fail to give any credit to the dev team, there are interesting "sub-mechanics" in most of the DPS classes, BOTD with drg is sorta interesting, and I find the reload mechanic plus the unreliability of its rotation reasonably refreshing, but I can't help but feel a bit "eh" about it because I know that its possible to have more spice in these classes beyond 1 or 2 unique things.

I'm rambling here but I'm going to continue anyway. My second problem is that I really don't enjoy the "get threat then transition into a DPS" style of play that Tanks have. Its a shame since tanking is usually my favourite role in hotkey MMOs, but I don't get near any of the usual buzz I'd get from other games when tanking in FFXIV. Naturally just a personal opinion and not necessarily implying that its a bad system, its just how I feel on the matter.

Feel free to completely ignore this rambling rant of a post, I'm not even sure why I typed this much.

How is farming/gathering/crafting in this game? Is it fun and comfy, or is it difficult and stressful? I just want to sit down with my PS4 controller and relax but still make some progress in the game.

Crafting, Mining and Fishing are all pretty damn monotonous and can be somewhat annoying with the timers.

Fishing can be relaxing or utterly infuriating beyond all belief.

Crafting is amazing. There are about 10-20 skills you use during a crafting session (total of maybe 40-50, not all of them are good). You have a fixed amount of crafting points that skills use, and you fill two bars during crafting - progress and quality. Filling first to full finishes the craft and creates your item, and how much you fill your second bar will determine whether you create a high quality item or a trash one. For late game, there are well known skill rotations, before that you have come up with your own sequences, and that is the fun part. I can't name a single game that does crafting as well as FFXIV.

Mining, botany and fishing are boring and monotonous even with latest somewhat cool additions.

Are red scrips even useful for a crafter? I bought a total of two red items for weaver (tool and boots), in a span of three days, and was able to craft full HQ Ironworks gear from that, eventually replacing boots (but not the tool because it's good enough and fibers are expensive - I'd rather sell them).
