But a lot of the warfare in the region was highly ritualistic and ceremonial as a result of Aztec/mexica domminance and them forcing other kingdoms/empires in the area to do pre-arranged battles with them to get war prisoners to sacrifice; and the aztecs preffered to surrond enemy territory and blockade them off and then force them to surrender in actual expansionist/territorial conquests (note how in >>372403058 , Tlazcala, Teotitlan, and Yopitzinco are all completely cut off) so actual full out conflicts weren't as common during the timespan the aztecs had a stranglehold on much of the region.

It is harder, and there's nothing magical about it. A spearman and a bowman might have different animations, but they can still use the same skeleton and most of the same model. A dwarf has different proportions than a human, so in addition to needing a completely new model instead of just tweaking the old one and giving it a new outfit, you can't just copypaste a human animation skeleton into a dwarf model and expect it to work.

This goes even further for non-humanoid models. Just pay attention to how a Beastmen centaur animates differently from just a dude on a horse.

Once the spainish started to re-assault the captial, the aztecs were already suffering huge fatalities and lack of resources due to the famine and dieases, and basically every other regional power the spainish could contact turned against the aztecs, as did many of the aztec's own cities.
