-Days were too long. You would finish up your farming and have fuck all to do for the rest of the day. The short days gives it less of the classic "Just one more day" gameplay, in which you want to go on to the next day, because there was enough interesting stuff to do in a day.

-Festivals were uneventful, and in some cases, not even actual festivals.

-In the original version, some of the chapters are long as fuck. IIRC, Chapter 3 took three years to complete.

-Your character dies in the original version.

Game is comfy as fuck, though. And the wives were my favorite (Nami and Muffy, anyway, as they had some goof depth) even if there were only 3 of them. I thought they missed a killer opportunity by not making Flora one.

I didn't find the game too difficult when I played on veteran in the jap version of the game and I also played veteran on the last game.
I don't think there's anything like the trade vendors from the first SoS to suffer through this time either, but I'm not 100% sure on that one.
