Bravely Default is exactly what I wanted from a FF game. No animu, no overly-convoluted story, no boring, brooding characters. Just an epic quest with somewhat likeable characters and a good job system.

Too bad the sequel adds animu, an overly-complicated story, brooding characters, and unlikable characters. At least the job system is still great.

All you do is walk through empty dungeons one after the other, all ending the same, with some guy warning you the boss is next, then you fight the boss, and you beat them all in the same way as you beat all the others. Shit story, shit gameplay.

Bravely Default as a franchise is one of the most missed oportunities in JRPG history.

Just push through to the end.
The last two chapters only really have boss rushes with all the asterisk holders so you can just wake the crystals and move on, should be able to easily do it in an hour.

The gameplay at least is solid. It's arguably the most polished turn-based system of the generation.
Brave and Default actually lets you plan out strategies that require multiple turns in one go, and you can just straight up control the level of random encounters, turning it off completely or up to max if you want to grind for whatever reason. Also, the job system is pretty good, even if the skill growth requirements gets a bit much after a while.

It's still a good game but has a fairly annoying problem of the later part of the game being nothing but fighting the same fucking bosses again and again while the characters act like retards about what's happening. It's been a while since I've played it but I believe it's four or five times with little to no plot progression or variation. Granted a lot of those are optional but you still have to fight 4-5 bosses every single time.

I'm a third party, and here's my "quickie" review of the game.

Bravely Default is a good game. Definitely worth the $40. It has amazing OST, really good gameplay, and an actually likable cast of characters.

On the gameplay, it's turn-based with a few twists. It has a job system, which function as different classes you can switch your party in and out of at will. Pic related actually, it's two of the party members as the 'performer' (bard) job. It's pretty fun and adds for ton of custiomization. If you love turn-based gameplay, you'll love the gameplay. it's that simple.

OST is just fucking great. Nothing bad to say about it.

Characters are really nice, I loved all four party members and most others were endearing. The party consists of Agnes, who is pretty much the priest mom friend of the group. Tiz, who is the generic "project yourself onto him" guy. Ringabel (pic related, upper left), who is obviously the best, who is the amnesiac ladies man. And Edea (pic related, lower left), a tsundere turncoat warrior. They're all pretty great, imo.

Now, onto the cons. There are quite a few
The gameplay, although very deep and good, may not be that engaging if you don't like turn-based.
The story is either a like it or hate it, I loved it but there are people who despise it.
And the second half of the game is... repetitive, to put it lightly. If you care about spoilers I spoilered this next plot, but it's pretty minor since you'll have no idea what i'm talking about; you have to fight every single boss again, and listen to the same dialogue, numerous times. The dialogue isn't skippable either LMAO. It's the part where most people quit the game, and for good reason.

tl;dr: despite it's numerous flaws, I would definitely recommend, especially if you like turn-based.

I skipped everything sans chapter 7, as the bosses changed up their style and fought alongside each other, making shit more interesting. Also, I did vampire castle of course, and got all of the summons.

But I strongly suggest you at least skip chapter's 5 and 6. They are pointless.

Just have everyone as a ninja with valkyrie as the secondary job. Give everyone spear lore and transience and one person hasten world have all other support abilities as either speed or attack boosting and equip everyone with two spears then brave once use utsusemi or whatever its called and then use high jump and repeat. All you have to do is outspeed your opponent and you will win every fight.
