Phase 1, dodge the magicspam. Once you damage him enough, he'll kneel down. Get behind him and charge attack for a visceral and to stop the buff he does. Phase 2, try to parry when you can. When he flies into the air, run towards him so that he misses and you have a chance to counter. When he plants his sword in the ground, focus on destroying it at all costs because it will rape your shit. You can't outrange or line of sight its cheapness.

When he entered phase 2, I gave up on trying to predict his moves, I had 15 vials left so I just mashed dodge and R1 and occasionally went for ripostes until either of us died. He died first. It was my first attempt too, so it felt pretty good, but I think I'll struggle with him in NG++ considering I didn't even learn his moveset.

So I guess my advice is, be reckless, he doesn't have all that much health and he can be parried.
