does anyone here still play this game?
we used to have daily threads, even multiple threads a day about it, and then it suddenly disappeared
I still play it from time to time, when a new update hits. But I would like more parts to build the stuff I want instead of levels. It still lacks so much in the parts/possibilities department.
At least they made the U5 transition pretty well, it just runs soooo good now.
>But I would like more parts to build the stuff I want instead of levels. It still lacks so much in the parts/possibilities department.
I spend all my time in the sandbox anyway so I don't really care for new levels
I am waiting for more updates before I get back into it. I don't like checking out each new update with the early access model. They said 1.5-2 years until version 1.0 when it came out, which was just under a year ago.
Is making flying shit still hard? Or did they change something?
forgot about that. That webm was from before people started figuring that shit out. I never realy messed with it cause it was around the time I started losing interest in the game.
They haven't even finished 2 land masses.
The continual claim is "once we finish the engine transfer, things will go way faster," but at this point, it's basically a stretched out excuse.
I play it whenever there is a map update. But Im not sure if it will ever reach the hight of those first few days when we discovered the spike grab glitch that led to the inferno engine and all the ridiculous stuff that came out of that
Those were the days. The threads we had were comfy and fun as shit
I don't know of any major glitches like the chaos engine that have been discovered lately, except maybe the scramjet water cannon bug. Basically you point a water gun forwards, accelerate the machine to high speeds and when you fire up the water gun it will provide forwards thrust, working better the faster you go
It made my supersonic steam car reach about Mach 1.31
That was the best week on /v/
Remember when one of us discovered the Chaos Engine?
Remember how everyone found new applications for it?
I'll never relive those days
Just wait for another fun game to be released
It happened again with the PC release of Way of the Samurai 4, although it lasted around two weeks and a half, instead of just one week.
That was also very fun.
Still, me in pic related
>All those wonderful webms
>I lost them all in a hard drive crash
I still remember that one golden cowboy with the huge sunglasses
It was only a week? There so many threads every day it felt like a fucking month
I was late to the party and joined the threads when the coolest shit had already been discovered
>it was only a week?
Talking about the golden age where every thread was a different invention and the excitement was only raising. That phase couldn't have been more than 8 or 9 days, that's for sure.
I just remember waking up one day without feeling the same excitement as before.
I get on /v/ and notice that it's the same for everyone.
After that it was about three weeks of webm dumps that nobody watched. The occasional two or three replies to the "loss" reference or the unusual bombing, but that was pretty much it.
Water guns were introduced in 0.11 I think
Early Access is mostly a hit/miss kinda thing. I'm new to Steam so tried a few early access games. Unturned is ok but doesn't allow me to use the gamepad. Plus it's hard to kill zombies for some reason.
DID SOMEBODY SAY BESIEGE THREAD
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Also, to anyone who stopped playing, I suggest you go take a look at the modding section of the official forums
The first person and cockpit view mods added a whole new dimension to the game for me
>What's the fastest method for ground travel?
I made a supersonic steam car, but it's not very practical.
I found out that frictionless vehicles powered by flying blocks are fast and can change direction easily, you can even pull some drifting and other tricks. Now I'm trying to make it faster
That thing was always one of my favorite designs
>the complete lack of Chaos Engines in this thread
A damn shayme. I'd dump, but I'm on my way out.
The steam car can drift too. Kind of.
Too bad that once it got to serious speeds it murdered my framerate. I had to run the simulation at sub 15% when I was trying to break the speed records
>ever using indestructible mode on a Chaos Engine
Weak and pathetic.
Nah they're from a mod. I tried vanilla-built wheels first but the car only managed to hit supersonic speeds once I tried the modded ones.
Vanilla wheels could only manage around 700 kph, or 900+ if using the scramjet glitch.
>game comes out
>people stop what they're doing and play the game for hours on end and chat about it here
>fades out in a flash
Why does this keep happening?
Not a real CE because it doesn't have fireballs, but still
After the whole Chaos Engine craze started, the mods allowed it for a week and then started banning Besiege threads on /v/ (saying it now belonged on /vg/). And as all things do on /vg/, the handful of general attempts died right away, while the threads were still bannable on /v/, and the interests died out.
The game is more fun with people to discuss it with and showcase your stuff. Without a place to talk about it, it can't last.
We completely exhausted the game over that week
Those were some of the funniest /v/ threads ever
>the discovery of the CE
>all those crazy new machines that were suddenly possible
>the handful of general attempts died right away
Besiege is now part of /egg/
Too bad nobody there plays it either
Eh, the whole CE thing was kinda overblown. It didn't really enable anything more than stacking a few wheels would, it just looked cooler.
The fuss over it ended up drowning out everything else, which probably didn't help the threads any long-term.
>The fuss over it ended up drowning out everything else
Until tank tracks arrived.
>was trying to make a 40k ship
>wasn't a feasible way to generate lift
>Chaos Engines are discovered
It was only half finished, but it was a thing of beauty.
those were some fun threads. the littlest mech that could. I made two things only then had had enough of my laptop overheating, webm related
Now you just gotta fix the center of mass or add more lift to the nose
I remember these
>tfw I was never capable of making such complex stuff
Yeah, considering all the shit an ass of a 40k ship has, I figured it'd balance out in the later stages of construction.
Those threads were genuinely some of the most fun I've had on 4chan in 8 years.
Hey, are you the original anon who worked on treads?
You work inspire me to build 40k stuff here, shilling my leman russ http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=498354555
Is this one of the new levels? I haven't checked out the latest patch yet
A few new blocks, several new levels, some bugfixing, Unity 5 which makes the game run much better and handle huge machines without murdering your CPU, and a ton of cool community-made mods.
Oh but I did hit it
I prefer that other webm because the launch and the flight are way smoother
Some really retarded design involving pistons and a grabber, ridiculously big for what it did. Involved a small wheel, a grabber, and a bunch of pistons on the body and legs to turn it up, left, down, right, then I realized I had to reverse it, so I just did the opposite after ~10 minutes of cranking for something to happen.
This on the other hand took a million tries because flying the plane while looking at it from a static ground location makes it much harder to line up bombing targets
the faggot devs ran off with the money
they haven't added new levels in like 8 months
Is that your creation? If itis , can I have the file? I want to see if I can use it as an airborne plane carrier.
The greatest mobile weapon platform created by mankind.
Fuck that helicarrier looks awesome
Thanks, I will fix it in no time
Also a pastebin for this >>324301359
I forgot the one I posted workshop is an old version
ive got old webums from like the first couple days this started taking off on /v/ saved
the whats in the box 3 part series was pretty good
>they could add half of the mod page to the game and the game would be better.
I mean it's fucking ridiculous that you still need mods to place blocks at angles other than 0/90/180/360 or to limit the rotation of steering hinges and blocks
Conventional prop planes were hard as fuck to build, last time I tried.
Because wing panels are infinitely better than those wing blocks.
>I mean it's fucking ridiculous that you still need mods to place blocks at angles other than 0/90/180/360 or to limit the rotation of steering hinges and blocks
That gotta be one of the things I hate the most other that not been able to move blocks aside the main block
Also wing panels let you build cooler looking stuff.
pic related my fav reaction image that came from those wonderful times
I don't know exactly what it is about wing blocks that makes them way harder to work with, all I know is that all my attempts at making planes failed miserably until I switched to wing panels.
>make use of the chaos engine.
That isn't even necessary, two or three stacked wheels are enough to get anything airborne unless it's reasonably unheavy or aerodynamically retarded.
The CE has no real application outside of powering xboxhueg things
Holy shit I meant unreasonably heavy
>The CE has no real application outside of powering xboxhueg things
you limit yourself my friend.
the chaos engine can be applied to whatever you want, its up to you how efficient it is.
but yes, stacking wheels outputs all the power you could ever need for a reasonable machine
Here's a rar with 1 gb of webms and a few vehicle files from the first week of /v/ threads
Most of the folders are empty because I haven't sorted them yet, and there maybe a few duplicates but there shouldn't be that many.
I'll add stuff I find in this thread to my collection but the rar won't be updated anytime soon. In particular i'm looking for more variations on the thing in pic related, I know the guy made a bunch of webms but this is the only one I still have that I can findd unless I have more with just numbers as the filename and I don't realize it.
That's actually a good point. If you get blocks that do anything for you then it's not fun anymore.
This is rather dishonest coming from someone who uses the rocket mod a lot, but in my defence I am a sucker for SPEED
You have to admit it was pretty fucking cool when it was first discovered.
I felt like I was witnessing technology evolve right in front on me.
there was an old bridge making game I use to play all the time in 2005 instead of doing work in school. Literally the same exact thing as polybridge.
it was called bridgemaker. It was great.
This used to work pretty well, now it cuts everytime and wont heat the cannon
It would have been pretty cool to see what all those anons would have made using steam cannons.
I'm not very creative when it comes to gears and cogs so other than a steam-powered supersonic car I never made anything impressive. I tried to make steam-powered prop engines for a plane but never managed to get anything airborne, the engines were always too heavy.
Because at the time of that webm I didn't know you could add fire to get steam. I accidentally discovered that one day and it was pretty cool.
Also, looking at how the water guns are facing each other, the steam would have probably killed the torches powering the steam cannons.
Nigga fixed wing aircraft are easy as shit
Helicopters are black magic though.
Is Helicopters are magic, is this thing alien technology?
You just have to balance the weight and the lift. Think of the center of lift as the same thing as the center of mass, only it's pushing the plane up instead of pulling it down. If CoM is far behind the CoL, the plane will fall on its ass. If it's the other way around, it will nose down. The center of lift is kind of like a fulcrum on which the plane has to be balanced.
You want to have the CoM in the same spot as the CoL or slightly ahead of it. Move the plane, start the simulation and watch what it does when it falls. If it pitches up or down then add or remove weight or lift (wing surface, aka wing panels) until it's balanced.
What the fuck is that thing
Dude nice. Looks sci-fi as shit.
>tfw I never managed to make anything flyable out of this and it can only go up and down
>Helicopters are black magic though.
Following the design we currently use I once made a helicopter that would lift and turn using the smaller propeller.
It wouldn't go anywhere other than up and down though.
Haven't seen one of these threads in a while. Gonna dump the ones I made back in the day.
>game converts to unity 5
>wooden blocks randomly snap for no reason whatsoever
>Helicopters are black magic though.
What makes you say that?
I tried using it with the latest update and it just dies. I really miss those old propellers, too. The new ones don't seem to work as well.
im still here i just got bored of the game after the first month.
