Do you think it'll be better than the original game?
What's going to be different in the remake compared to the original?
3 new islands
Cautiously optimistic. Worst case scenario it's a competent ratchet game, gameplay videos already prove there's nothing particular to be worried about unless you're autistic about the fact it's not a carbon copy of the original game or it's using the movie's plot which takes creative liberties with the original game
I could do without zurkon but the agents of doom are confirmed
It's a different canon, it's not retconning anything you autist
Nexus suffered because they weren't able to keep a STABLE 30fps, the framerate would often drop just from using your standard arsenal of weapons. They were doing a shit ton of particle effects and shit on ancient hardware so the performance suffered as a result
The PS4 game is 30 but with motion blur, which while not as good as 60fps is an improvement. Having played sunset overdrive which is the same 30w/blur, while it's jarring at first you quickly get accustomed to it and at no point did it detract from the gameplay (SO has a shitton of autoaim since you're constantly grinding on rails and can't accurately keep a steady aim on your own, that probably helped)
It won't be inherently bad because of the 30fps. For what it's worth insomniac are one of the few companies who actually make visually impressive stylised games
Pretty much these two.
I can forgive reusing the same fucking weapons for the 6th game in a row; but they couldn't even keep a stable framerate in Nexus. Strafing and upgrades will be great; but the game will take a hit in every other category asides from graphics.
>a game is bad because it's short
That's not how it works though
you rate a game based on what it is for how much it was, not what you wanted it to be
Nexus was a $20 title, at no point did they mislead you into thinking you were getting a full 14 hour game
knowing TJ he'll downplay qwark's role as a villain significantly and victor von robotface will take qwark's place as dren's right hand man
I'll pick it up because I love the series
But it'll probably be another game where Ratchet lets everyone push him around for some unknown reason, like his resume of "crazy shit accomplished" isn't six miles long.
You mean PC let /v/ brainwash them into not enjoying things any more under the pretext of maturity?
Sounds like the dumbest shit anyone could do to themselves. I'll continue enjoying my hobby, thanks.
>Not knowing about the initial concepts from R&C1
Anon, it was going to be in every game, just that they couldn't make dancing animations for every enemy in the original trilogy, so with the added power of the PS3, they introduced it in ToD.
>What's going to be different in the remake compared to the original?
OC characters from the film.
Plot elements from Future as well as the later PS2 games.
The weapons are Grummelnet now, I think.
>being so self-deprecating that you can't enjoy something without being ashamed about it
How about you go get some self-worth before you decide to post again.
It had the thruster pack thing but that doesn't really count.
I don't even think it matters that much. The first game had a much heavier platforming lean and the combat wasn't designed in a way that would require being able to strafe. R&C2+ without strafing would be broken but R&C1 never needed it.
I implied that the game would be better gameplay wise as well due to adding gameplay mechanics that weren't previously in the original R&C1.
I think overall the game will be good; but some hardcore fans like myself hate a lot of the decisions made with these games as of recent.
>tfw come the game's release /v/ will be unable to have a ratchet thread without console war shitposting
>despite the fact Insomniac will be responsible for the best exclusive game on both the PS4 and the Xbox One
To be fair Fixman bitching is somewhat warranted, but is he even working on this game? I thought he formally left after ITN. He wrote the movie but I've assumed he isn't responsible for the game's specific story
This game is a rare example of a dev getting extra time just for polish because they want to release it alongside the movie
I'm fucking excited but still
>Ted Price wanting to turn Insomniac into a Triple A dev even though they are perfect as they are with Sony
>Writer is the one who worked on the Future saga, which already has shown retcons with the original story and will probably have dank memes like Q-Force and Sunset Overdrive
>It's going to be piss easy, even though the original trilogy nailed challenging but fair difficulty
>30FPS even though this is perfect for a 60FPS PS4 game
>Music is going to be no where near as good as the original
I'm probably still gonna get it and watch the film but it's clear Sony wants to use this and probably Sly to market Playstation to a new young generation
One thing I like that theyr'e doing is fleshing out Ratchet's past.
his life between being sent to Veldin and meeting Clank was never really explained, but now it's shown that a new character, Grim owns the garage that Ratchet worked at, and is likely his parental figure.
Inversely I'm not sure how I feel about starting with a swingshot because it would invalidate Helga's course.
The groovitron is okay because there isn't really anything that fills its niche.
I'm absolutely sick of Mr Zurkon though
In the entire 14+ hour game I only noticed
>doge 'such wow' in a mission about using a dog
>charlie sheen 'winning' random dialog line
>fizzie says 'I am become death, destroyer of worlds' in the final boss
>entire side character named after 4chan (4kim)
And that was it, nothing else really counts as a 'meme' unless you think any reference to pop culture or TV shows is a meme
Also this isn't supposed to replace the original game so it can't retcon anything regardless.
Nefarious is probably the only time the trilogy got hard.
Zurkon Family was great though
You need to cool the autism a little bit and understand that this is a movie which is based off of the original game (and a game based on the movie) and in no way do either of them replace the story of the original series. There's no retconning, the movie is a separate entity
Which is exactly what a retcon would be.
Ratchet is not a dick anymore.
He doesn't want to 'get off the planet anymore'
He instead wants to become a galactic ranger.
also he had something like a dad in Grim
Except it's not a retcon because it does not replace the original game, it is its own separate entity which takes creative liberties from the original game
Yes it will be shitter in some aspects
No it will not be the exact same plot points
No it does not diminish anything about the original game
There were some bits in R&C1 that were brutal, the Drek boss fight is easily the hardest one in any R&C game.
R&C2 and 3 did difficulty really well. It was both challenging AND fun, Protopet boss fight excluded. The only thing that was bullshit about either game was the snow level in R&C2 with the optional crystal grinding.
I disagree with his post though, CiT was both hard and challenging as well assuming you played on the highest difficulty. Some enemy segments were actually hard because they throw so much shit at you in some of them, both the true final boss and the optional post-game one where actually hard as well. Nefarious in R&C3 is literally just keep moving and firing and you won't get hit 90% of the time. It's not hard.
They changed ratchet's personality to what it is currently in the first place because his character was so badly received in the first game.
He'll still have his moments I'm sure, to being a dick for a while after Qwark tries to kill him, his faith in his hero shattered and something something.
>They changed ratchet's personality to what it is currently in the first place because his character was so badly received in the first game.
I know, but I really enjoyed his arc over the course of the games from being an asshole who had to be dragged into saving the galaxy to a legitimate hero that actually gave a fuck.
> The original had some funky as fuck tunes.
All of the PS2 games did. Where do I find more like it?
>It looks only a bit better than the Future games which were 60fps on PS3.
Maybe you don't remember how bad ToD looked, or how many framedrops CiT had.
I would actually be fucking amazed if this game was actually pushing the hardware, it looks really good but at the same time, it feels like most of it is basically effects and pretty textures, doesn't look to be super demanding
So far I'm not seeing a huge upgrade in fidelity.
I mean all I've seen is YouTube videos, so there's some compression going on, but still.
Replayed it recently and I don't recall it happening with any frequency, if at all.
And of course ToD looks bad now, it was an early-gen game.
At the time it looked fucking stellar.
ACiT/ItN would be the more apt comparison regardless.
I believe what's making the game demanding on the hardware is just the amount of shit on the screen. There is an absolute shitton of particle effects and they're doing some computationally impressive stuff like the voxellizer gun that generates the voxels dynamically
Shit dude, I remember the dev playthrough, they mention some kinda trick they did in the PS2 games where, if the framerate dropped, the game did something to compensate so you wouldn't notice?
Maybe CiT has that as well.
Or maybe I don't notice because I seriously, for the life of me, cannot tell the difference between 30 and 60 and anything in-between
>2 did difficulty well
Nah man, it felt like it jumped all over the place for late game
>Flying lab is pretty simple
>Thug HQ is fucking brutal
>Boss isn't that hard, just long
>then Smolg is fair for the most part, complete contrast
>then Greblin gets the YETIs but the actual plot section isn't fustrating
>Then yeedil becomes fitting difficulty wise, but felt like a sudden jump, until boss
3 was more balanced with the curve.
>if the framerate dropped, the game did something to compensate so you wouldn't notice?
I don't remember the specific episode where they talked about this but the concept of delta time in game calculations (where you calculate distance moved based on how long since the last frame instead of assuming it will be x time always) is actually well established and fairly common in games that aren't shit
If delta time is the compensation technique he was talking about, then that's a standard technique to make sure the game doesn't slow down like an early 2D game if it starts dropping frames.
Went to the point where I attempted the challenge boss with nothing but the starting weapons on a NG+/Challenge mode.
The fully upgraded Wrench did more DPS than the lancer or the Mini Nuke in the long term.
Even the Blitz Gun was shit.
Ended up running Minirocket tube and Plasma coil with Synthenoids for late game.
No arguments about CiT's framerate. It was bad. Skip to the Ratchet part.
We must give the R&C games some slack though. On both the PS2 and PS3, they're some of the best looking games on the system and they still push for 60fps. Though the low 960x704 resolution on ToD and ACiT makes the HD collection end up looking better at a much clearer 720p with a solid 60fps.
