In the city arcades were a really big social things for kids in general back then when there were huge pushes to fet them away from crime, just so happened that most kids in the city were black in many places
As a black guy who loves fighting games, I'd say its probably the competitiveness that can be offered from some of them. Its like starcraft and asians.
>Complexity = Depth
This is incorrect
LoL and Dota are trash. There is nothing complicating about Quake and Starcraft
Some people just like memorizing and typing codes into controllers as quickly as possible. Button combination genre. Trigger animation sequence with cool sounds and crotch shots of anime characters.
Oh black people I missed that part of OP. I have no idea, we don't have black people in Canada. My Brother in law is brown, he likes fighting games because of the reasons in my post I'm replying to, but he won't admit that's the reason.
Woolieexplained it in a video, it's because their parents bought games that multiple people could play at once. There's no way you'd ever finish an rpg or something when ladeshqua, jerouma, shashaququ, and jamslamal want to play too.
Because its not the reason. Fighting games are like a conversation between the two people playing. Reads, and reactions are what make it fun, additional barriers to it such as combos are what make it something to put time into.
Because a lot of FGC people didn't grow up with much money and usually had siblings, so when parents got them a game, it had to be one that could be played together.
Fighting games was one of those, and had the added benefit of a lot of replayability. There was also the fact that back then we had arcades, which means you could play for just quarters.
>we had arcades
This. A fucking arcade on the weekends was the best thing to do with friends. Better yet, any NYfags here? I remember when my brother would go to XS, I think it was and play some of the games there. This was back in '99-2000. You didn't truly live a gaming experience unless you played in arcades. Back in summer camp we'd go to Funtime USA and play the games there. They had Silent Hill, The X-Men arcade game, Tekken, I believe Time Crisis, to name a few. It was amazing. 2001 was the last time I went there, I don't know if it was still around.
If you didn't have money for the arcade, the ballpit and slide was just as fun, and the carousal, too.
Because 99% of blacks are naturally aggressive and enjoy fighting and athletics. That's why you see so many of them in any sport where physical speed/quickness gives you an advantage.
Because black people are the master race
>Physically superior to all races
>Alpha as fuck
>Doesn't care about the Jew constructs like law or race
The meme that they're dumb is a myth, too. Ben Carson and Barack Obama are presidents of the United States.
>Quake, Dota and League of legends
White people play war games because they really want to be out shooting people
Black people play fighting games because they really want to be on the streets kicking ass
Asian people play games about holding hands with women because you get the point
>Because 99% of blacks are naturally aggressive and enjoy fighting and athletics
Do you actually believe this? Blacks have much higher obesity rate compared to whites.
>real provinces have black people
ROFL come to the really real provinces where if you run into a black person you can ask for an autograph because they are a member of the local CFL team.
On topic, if black peeps like fighting games then the games must be like football or basketball in some way, and not like hockey. Due to demographics.
Its known that black people love japshit and other asian fuckeries.
They love kung fu flicks and shit. Wu Tang Clan is pretty much that fusion between black and asian influence.
Its no surprise that the same people enjoy games that got all those elements in them.
And its not just black people in america, I've noticed that over here in europe many minorities both white and brown enjoy their fighting games and kung fu shit.
Its the native white pansies who cant get into them for some reason.
Im black but I prefer action games, stealth games and rpgs. I dont even plah fighting games that much. So I dont get this trope either.
I do fucking love the DBZ budokai games though. Especially BT 2. Mained trunks all the time and kicked the hell out of my friends' white asses.
I assume it's because fighting games are cheap. They often grow up in the city and with multiple siblings, so you can get everyone together at one persons house and just play for hours without spending much money
Oh boy, can't wait for EVO this year
>winning tournaments while wearing fox ears and a tail
>have 2 furry friends cheering you own in full fursuits
how buttmad do the people who lose to him get?
People who are in the MK FGC don't really mind the furry bullshit too much (in public), people like Perfect Legend shat on Sonicfox's "fundamentals" and all that bullshit in the past though. Non-players/watchers will give some shit of course since young kid & bisexual furry crap
hes going to get destroyed. Most assuredly being good at MK is like being the best swimmer in the special needs pool.
Mortal Kombat has never been good in either technicality or animation and have purely sold on shock value until MK 9 and that game was still fucking trash
I hate Mortal Kombat and Skullgirls, I don't give a shit about those games. I still want to see how he does. He clearly has some degree of aptitude for fighters.
amending that i mean to say its cheap to own 1 console and 1 copy with 2 controllers and just play round robin tourneys with 2 - 6 pals rather than play coop games thatd require extended periods with usually only 2 people
I think you give him too little credit, plus part of the reason for him taking up SFV in the first place is the notion that he's a big fish in a small pond. I respect his willingness to venture out into other fields and see how far he can go. It's going to be interesting.
I think everybody else is giving him too much credit for playing a shitty game like MKX.
Its a good thing that he is trying to play a better game with actual competition.
People will stop praising him quickly and he might learn what it means to play a proper fighting game.
Its funny that you can be a pro player in multiple fighting games without even knowing the concept of neutral and footsies.
>Its a good thing that he is trying to play a better game with actual competition.
That's how I feel about it too, I hate MK and Skullgirls as much as you do, but I'm not going to deny him his accomplishments. I mean shit, it's not like Perfect Legend was a no-name. I can't imagine that people aren't looking forward to whether or not he'll sink or swim. Do I think he'll just storm his way to EVO Top 8 with no resistance? Fuck no.
Is this what you base your whole interest in a game on?
Dude look at Domi's performance in KI on EVO
Dude picked that game like week before tourney and managed to get into top 8. He couldn't even perform combo breakers for fucks sake and relied on just solid play
No, I'm not a contrary manchild.
BB is decent, yeah, but I'm not the biggest anime fighter fan so I can't really be unbiased.
I'm not questioning the mechanics, I'm just saying I find a fg boring when the hitstop is too severe, and sf5 seems slow as fuck even compared to 4.
The little pause game makes when attack connects
Its almost as if its a feature of games so integral but minute within fighting games you'd have to be a raging autist to complain about the time stop increment differences between games.
nyc here, was XSt the time square arcades? for the most part i went to chinatown fair arcades for mvc2. Competition was fierce there. Time square also had some good players once in a while.
But yeah P1 Ken was in the first frame of a jab.
It's a mindgame, dash once to get in then dash again to prompt a reaction.
A very risky mindgame but a mindgame none the less.
>more complex than most fighting game systems
literally lmaoing right now you fucking jabroni
They often are. This is not a good thing, either. Remember, complexity != depth.
I am seriously struggling to think of an assfaggots that has any concept even close to the level of option selects as far as complexity goes, they've always seemed really straight forward both in terms of complexity and depth, the latter of which being non-fucking existent.
People always say MOBAs aren't complex, but that's just flat out false. They ARE complex, especially in DotA 2's case. Making them simpler would actually be an improvement. Adding more shit to a game doesn't necessarily make the game better. The average fighting game is much easier to pick up than the average moba. Mobas have an crapload of information to injest just for you to even begin playing the game, it's a lot more difficult to pick up and play League or Dota and enjoy them earlier, not to mention smurfs that run around and basically destroy the game for new players. Not to mention that in League's case it relies on constant, forced changes to keep the game "interesting", meaning that metagames can't form naturally the way they do in fighters.
I wouldn't call a few easily understandable 'balance' (read; game ruining) changes like what those faggots do to league of legends every other month qualifies as complexity though, it seems more like changes under the guise of complexity and depth to keep the game fresh, which seems to work for fucking casuals.
Maybe if you have no concept of videogame mechanics it could come off as complex, but it's just a bunch of simple as fuck concepts that lead to a 20-60 minute long shitfest of a game that's for some reason taking the world by storm.
Meanwhile you have fighting games that as you mention are easy to pick up and play, but the depth and the complexity associated with multiple mechanics often running together makes it much harder to penetrate at a deeper level.
Like, assfaggots players wouldn't understand a thing about frame data and actual complex shit, they just play their dumbed down 1 character controlled 5 to a team RTS knockoff garbage.
blacks are usually poor and can't afford too many video games. and fighting games have a FUCKTON of replay value and they get emotinally attached to it. fighting games are the sort of thing you can play for YEARS if you have friends and family with a common interest in it. i understand what it's like because in my childhood i grew up poor around a bunch of hicks/trailer trash which is the closest thing a white person can come to being black
>it seems more like changes under the guise of complexity and depth to keep the game fresh
That's partially what I'm getting at. The game is complex by the textbook definition of the word. There are A LOT of intricacies in MOBAs. Characters, items, random ability interactions, objectives, etc. That does not make them more interesting or dynamic, it just means there's a lot of oftentimes esoteric shit to learn. Mind you, I hate MOBAs, I just don't like blatant falsehoods. It'd be like saying "Fighting games are shit because it's all about memorizing combos", that's flat out fucking wrong. I mean, you're fine to think that fighting games are shit, but your lack of understanding or knowledge of them does not make that the case.
Also frames are not a difficult concept to understand, but they ad a great deal of nuance to the game. Fighters ultimately boil down to controlling space and knocking out the opponent, but there is so much more under that shell, we both know it.
