What remakes/re-releases are there that have added a vast amount of new content to the original game?
damn, i thought hard about this but mario 64 ds really takes the cake. it was at least 25% new content.
>tfw no Super Mario 64 HD with all the content from the DS version with online multiplayer
you mean they arbitrarily locked 3/4 of the game behind a characterwall so you have to backtrack and get the character to then go back up and into the level?
Its pointless and boring. go and play super mario 64: star road romhack. it could be even better than the original game. and the textures and shit all look great, unlike a muddy as shit original DS game. not to mention they gimped the fuck out of the controls on the DS version. go watch a speedrun of sm64 and then the DS version and its night and day.
I could honestly dig an updated 3DS re-release of this with better controls and maybe some more extra stuff.
The D-pad is a pain in the fucking ass to use for this game, it would seriously benefit from the circle pad. Would benefit from the New 3DS' C-stick too, for the camera.
I keep seeing people complain that the d-pad is shit for the game but it worked well enough for me. Yeah it's not as good as a circle pad but it wasn't the huge drawback that everyone made it out to be.
I appreciate the additions and changes they made, but it's such a shame the game controls like ass.
Analogue sticks (as we know them) were basically invented specifically for SM64. And then we get a game where I'm supposed to control mario with a fucking D-pad. That honestly wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that there's a fucking RUN BUTTON that you have to hold down 99% of the time, which makes hitting the punch/action button mapped to A infinitely annoying to do. There should've at least been a walk/run toggle, or at least reverse it so you're always running except when you hold down Y.
Yeah yeah, there's the virtual analogue stick using the touch screen, but that fucking sucked because they made it so the stick moves around the screen along with your thumb, so I would always end up with my thumb at the edge of the screen and then needing to reset my thumb to the middle and them repeating ad infinitum. It was tedious and ineffective.
>tfw no Mario Party with online multiplayer
I could have dealt with the shitty controls, but having one of the face buttons mapped to running when you have to run all the goddamn time and there are other 2 face buttons you have to press every second was the most unbelievably stupid shit ever.
Garbage controls in a Mario game should be punished by death. And it doesn't help that the game looks and sounds like shit. Not to mention how out of place all the other characters feel, so you can keep the extra content for yourself, I'll go replay Super Mario 64.
They could've at least mapped the run button to L. As it was, I had to hold the controller monster hunter style with a claw grip so that I could hit A and B while still holding down Y
The game was analog, though. You were supposed to use the touch screen by using the thumb strap accessory.
You remember the thumb strap, right? How it came with the DS, which had a slot for you to tie it around in the back, and was used in all those great games like Super Mario 64 DS and...
Shame hackers arnt able to map those analog inputs to the d-pad. Ive been on several rom hacking websites and have asked. Its apparently impossible. Even simple button swapping seems to difficult. Mapping the run button to L would make the game so much more playable.
Oh, you mean from a neutral position? Have you played the game for 5 minutes only or what? You're not supposed to stand still other than in moving platforms, so it's never an issue.
they added new shit, but fucked up the old shit
>Minor unnoticeable design changes made into a list of complaints designed as evidence for them "fucking it up"
Holy shit you faggots will complain about absolutely anything and if you can't find something to complain about you'll make something up
WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GIVE THE FISH EYES, NINTENDO? SHIT DESIGN, 2/10 WOULD NOT PLAY, BLUNDER OF THE YEAR ALL YEARS, DON'T EVEN FIX IT JUST SKIP TO KILLING YOURSELF!
>he didn't play those mini-games over download play during class
Somewhat, they wanted people to use the touch screen to move, personally it gave me hand cramps like with Kid Icarus. The only time I had to use the touchpad was with tossing Bowser because the D-Pad was shit with launching him where I wanted him at.
>you mean they arbitrarily locked 3/4 of the game behind a characterwall so you have to backtrack and get the character to then go back up and into the level?
Except you don't because hats.
Does Nightmare Princess count?
This is retarded. You're not actually playing it with analogue control. It still only interprets 8 directions of movement, because it's still interpreting the input as if it were a d-pad. It's like saying you can get analogue control out of your gameboy games if you play them on the gameboy player and use your gamecube controller.
>The game looks like Super Mario 64 but better
Mods needs to ban the guy who made this. Seriously.
Boss Bash was like this in SMB3. He was changed in 64, and later changed again to resemble his first appearance.
Nope. The artstyle originally was fucked up. Boss Bash didn't had the need to be changed in 64, and Dorrie and Unagi first appeared in 64, so of course, they had to be updated to make them consistent.
Resolution and graphics are not the same thing.
If you aren't playing Final Mix you might as well just not play it.
It's rebalanced, there's a new difficulty, there's a huge amount of new optional content, new items, a new Form, Roxas is a boss fight instead of a cutscene now
Man I'd love that for the 3DS. They could use assets from SML3D and other 3DS Mario games.
>Added limit mode
>Can fight Roxas
cut scene is still there when you beat him.
>Can fight harder Organization Members multiple times
>Lingering Will is BoAT
>Clears up the story a bit
if you care about that
Feel free to try the PS3 one, there are some shortcomings to that one though, such as load times and loading while going into forms.
Seriously why the fuck haven't they patched it like some sort of data install?
I don't consider this bait, because of the fact that the 3DS can do way more, and they opt for casualizing the Zelda remakes. This image is on-point.
better comparison, both games at 3x output resolution with the n64 texture filter disabled for more direct contrast
It occured to me right now just how much of Banjo's aesthetic originated from Donkey Kong/Mario, and how much dull an plasticy he looks when you take that way like with modern Banjo games (duller and more plastically than modern Mario).
put the most effort into the castle interiors and the course paintings
64 is too saturated and unrefined.
DS is cleaner and easier on the eyes
It's no contest here, DS is objectively superior.
>music is inferior but still okayish
>game feels clunkier in 2.5D
>has a new playable character that plays completely differently
>adds a hard mode that gives bosses new moves
I want to say it's a pretty solid sidegrade to the original, but I'm a huge nostalgic faggot for X1.
>c-cherrypicking! Nintendo is god!
Wind Waker HD didn't add fucking shit really and they sold it for 50$. Zelda TP won't be adding shit and will also be 40/50 fucking dollars.
Meanwhile KH1.5/2.5 was fucking 40$ included 2 games, and new content for people who weren't Japanese.
Nintendo is a bunch of jews, and you are a bunch of sheep.
been gray since mario world, guess they were modeled after the mario 3 appearance
>Meanwhile KH1.5/2.5 was fucking 40$ included 2 games, and new content for people who weren't Japanese.
>and new content for people who weren't Japanese.
>implying that matters
They didn't do fuck all for the FM version of the game anon, all they did were change the subtitles if I remember right because it was already in English.
The fact it was even $40 is a travesty with how cheap it was to produce.
Meanwhile WWHD actually fixed the issues people had with the game.
>KH 1.5/2.5 adds content
>WWHD fixes a bug or 2 that only mattered to speed runners
NINTENDO IS DA BESTTT.
Also they did do touch ups on KH 1.5 as well.
They made talking with the command button with triangle so triangle wasn't completely useless anymore.
They did small little fixes just like WWHD PLUS had more content PLUS was cheaper PLUS had more than one game.
>>KH 1.5/2.5 adds content
Literally the same FM version anon, they didn't add fuck all from the version they had made 10 years ago. All they did were upscale the models put it in a compilation and ship it.
>They made talking with the command button with triangle so triangle wasn't completely useless anymore.
>putting that on the same level as removing the biggest complaints people had with the game
Are you genuinely retarded or what? It's a single button, a single button that never affected the game negatively.
I think the worst part about 1.5/2.5 is that they loaded slower than their PS2 counterparts
nothing could be worse than the PSP load times that said.
Also one is still a porting job while the other is an actual remake, of course one is going to be slightly more expensive because they did more work on it.
It's not even a port. Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis is what happens when a company loses the source code to their game, and tries to remake it using the engine of a later game, in this case Sonic Advance.
Here's the best part: Sonic Advance was built using Sonic 3 & Knuckles's engine. S3K was built using Sonic 2's engine. Sonic 2 was built using Sonic 1's engine.
Super Star Ultra has a good amount of additional content over the original.
>they didn't add fuck all from the version they had made 10 years ago.
>Are you genuinely retarded or what? It's a single button, a single button that never affected the game negatively.
Holy shit. Your post man.
Yeah, it wasn't anything major, but neither was fucking Zelda WWHD "updates" nothing fucking major.
Not everyone wanted to import it, and import/mod their PS2 to play the game.
>Sonic Advance was built using Sonic 3 & Knuckles's engine
no wonder why it's so good
Doesn't always work like that.
Sonic Advance 2 and 3 weren't as good, and both were built the same way. SAdv2 was built off SAdv1, and SAdv3 built off SAdv2.
Then Rush came 'round and used a new engine.
>Yeah, it wasn't anything major, but neither was fucking Zelda WWHD "updates" nothing fucking major.
>listening to the fans and rectifying the major problems they had with the game
You're arguing that a button change that didn't impact the game is on the same level as increasing the speed you travel at with a new item, cutting down the triforce search so you aren't just wandering the seas for hours and a new mode.
Holy shit anon, get some perspective.
Nearly all the new content was bad though.
Most of the new stars are just "collect these easy to find Silver Stars in reused areas!" or "hit a switch and get the star in a reused area!"
There were what, 3 good new areas (the boss areas to unlock new characters) and those only had 1 star each plus a boss. And then there's a handful of good new stars in the castle.
Meanwhile a bunch of levels got dumbed down and everyone can jump twice as high as the original game for some stupid reason, removing all that's left of the challenge.
Advance 1 was by all means "Sonic 4". 2 and 3, and then continuing in every handheld since started that shitty pattern of gotta go fast and hold right while smashing into poorly placed enemies and every stage is miles above the ground with pits everywhere.
Man was this version gorgeous. Didn't like the redesigned tediz though. Felt they were more disturbing when they looked more like cute teddy bears.
