Guess what? Dragons are still overpowered as shit, because the reason they ruled the scene wasn't their mediocre typing, but rather the fact that they mostly legendaries or 600BST beasts. All they did was create another top tier type, and buffing Ghost to unnecessary levels.

Just adding Fairy to a shitmon nowadays drastically improves their usefulness with close to no drawbacks. Dragon never did that for any mon that wasn't a Water type (another of GF's darling types).

I'm not fond of how slow gen 4 as a whole is, the gen 2 soundtrack sounds better (yes, GB sounds, but you get it at the very end of your journey and it' doesn't even sound exactly like the old tunes), and I'm not fond of how obtuse some mechanics like the safari zone and the new game corner work. They didn't even fix the level curve. In fact, they made the Kanto leaders and Red even higher leveled. That's okay, I guess, because that's the only way they'll even be a challenge.
Also, plain old nostalgia. GSC aren't exactly unplayable, and I just get more satisfaction out of replaying them than going through HGSS. I don't get why everyone regards BW/BW2 so highly because of its story and characterization. The premise was nice and there were some interesting designs but all of it was ruined by its hamfisted execution. Yes I get it, Plasma's goals/methods are hypocritical, you don't need to highlight that with every word of dialogue just so toddlers get the idea. No, I don't give a fuck that Bianca is crying, because she gets like 2 lines of dialogue every couple badges and she never had any sort of development to make her sympathetic in any way. Who the fuck is Cheren, even. There's no sense of subtlety or pacing or tone and everything feels rushed just so that you can get back to earning your badges, probably because Satoshi Tajiri has aspergers and doesn't actually know how to write believable human interactions.

What you have to understand is that from Gen I to Gen IV, Pokemon stories have been very simple, and very much secondary to every other aspect of the series. When BW came along and tried a more ambitious and complex story, it surprised long time fans of the series, and in turn, put them under the perception it was a masterfully written story even though it was terrible. This change in perception especially applied to the underage going through their edgy phase.
