>People complain about modern first person shooters and how they are rehashed
>A game comes out that averts all this
>Nobody plays or remembers it
Why is this allowed?
When /v/ complains about COD they don't want to play different, better FPS games they only want to play the game(s) they are complaining about but with better features or similar to the older "golden days" games in the franchise
I'm fucking calling it, Rainbow Six Siege is the most fun I've had in a FPS since F.E.A.R
The community isn't toxic, the game is fun, the guns balanced, lots of people are on the mic and are generally helpful. First year has free DLC (maps and operators) for everyone.
Haven't even seen anyone talk about it. But I will hype it up in as many threads as I can.
>defending a shitty military shooter that was turned into serious sam halfway through
Get fucked. SS 3 was fun as fuck. Everyone is just waiting for SS 4 because the last one came out 7 years ago.
>yfw boss fight strings on the last level
FPS games have never been good. Doom, Quake, it's all boring and uninspired.
People who played Unreal were adolescent fucks, and people who play Call of Duty are adolescent fucks. Nothing has changed, you're not cool because you played Deus Ex when you were ten.
Shit games are shit, and you are a purveyor of shit.
>hurr 343 killed Halo remember when Halo was good?
The game WAS a military shooter which they couldn't find a publisher for before it got turned into SS3.
And the enemies that look and act like some from Doom?
They do so because they were from a concept that Croteam sent to id Software when they were hiring people for a new Doom game.
The 3D render model of the Khnum was even called Baron of Hell.
Not only the slow start but also the texture quality.
The ones in the urban regions are of much lower quality due to their age while the ones in the ruins are sharp and covered in stuff like parallax mapping.
Oh my God it's so weird to see my language again.
Here you go
War theme - After a somewhat "relaxed" and weird/quirky content in their new project Croteam decided for a very realistic approach in modern warfare.
Visual authenticity - To testify that it's about a truly next gen FPS we're presented with these incredibly detailed and realistic models of soldiers featured in the game.
Urban warfare - Judging by the first screenshots it's inevitable that the game will combine fighting in open areas such as streets and markets with entries in different buildings and facilities.
On Croatian technology - Template for this hyper realistic graphic scene is in the fact the amazingly advanced Serious Engine 3.
Weaponry - Drastic departure of Croteam's previous work on Serious Sam, weapons in their new title are based and constructed to be as realistic as possible as the current/existing weapons.
So glad that they decided to recycle and make Serious Sam instead.
That's pretty neat, thanks for the translation. It also gives insight into why BFE felt so different to me, nevermind the obvious like weapon reloading and sprinting. The layout of those early missions felt foreign to me.
Serious Sam is fucking boring, get over it
Fuck huge empty levels, spend 20 minutes on a massive flat plane shooting at enemies that spawn literally 2 kilometers away
It's fucking boring
>The 3D render model of the Khnum was even called Baron of Hell.
I believe it.
>king of all meme games.
What the fuck is that supposed to even mean?
BFE was made from the remains of a failed game
Its first levels are pretty bad and would put most people off, past 4 or 5 the game becomes serious though.
Exile DLC was so fucking great, beautiful areas and plenty of ranged enemies rather than waves of same weak melee with occasional Gorilla or Grenadier. Also flying enemies, hell yeah.
Boom. There ya go. One of the best FPS games to come out in a decade or so.
The shooting mechanics in this game are fucking fantastic. Only issues it really has is a lack of diversity and a lack of balance. Revolvers are god like and the rifles are pretty much just below them, with the shotguns being pretty much useless for some goddamn reason.
Either way, some of the most fun I've had in a modern shooter. Makes the new Wolfenstien seem boring.
No no no OP, you don't understand. We want a first person shooter that isn't a rehash, doesn't try to push realism, and is a GOOD video game. Serious Sam 3 is 2/3 of those, it missed the memo that it was supposed to be fun, and not a boring slog unlike the first two games.
>Nobody plays or remembers it
nigger, there are regular threads about it and there's SSSat.
I think BFE is the best Serious Sam once you get over the slow start.
i want a first person shooter that has
serious sam has neither. it's "Press and Hold S while Mashing M1: The Game"
theres no grace, no strategy. play Deus Vult 2 on UV, then get back to me.
>people shitting on serious sam
are you fucking serious, in what year do I live in? don't tell me people are going to shit on deus ex or unreal tournament next, fucking christ you newbabs
the start is the worst part. I still like TFE and TSE more though.
it's all about the gameplay, baby.
Yeah this. It's Backpedalling +MB1 all the time. Some enemy weapons have hitscans IIRC and almost unavoidable damage, which it could be the only thing you could get out of a formula like this, getting dodges and non stop action with cool moves and shit.
Serious Sam has nothing of that actually. Finisher moves and that's it.
It's nostalgia all day long dude.
The great old school shooter days were singleplayer campaigns about backpeddling and multiplayer that was just about fighting for the one good weapon that spawns and staying on top by monopolizing it.
Actually everytime someone mentions something like this I remember Bulletstorm and how people dismissed it right off the bat. When I played it I enjoyed it and actually finished it. It was fucking fun, with the ONLY fault of not having a jump button to manually vault and do crazy shit.
Nobody remembers Bulletstorm, but it was good.
Fortunately they die in 2 hits from the AR.
Speaking of which, I'm glad SS doesn't make enemies bullet sponges when you increase the difficulty, you'll just get more enemies that do more damage.
there are four hitscan enemies in the game and none of them is a threat if you have armor and half a brain
clones die in 3 assault rifle / pistol bullets and 2 minigun bullets
baby arachnoids die with a necksnap or 1 rocket
adult arachnoids die with like 4 rockets but they almost always spawn in places you can take cover so that's a non-issue
technopolyps are annoying yeah only spawn like 7 times in the entire game and they're all at key points where you either have cover or a health / armor buff
these guys exist for the sole purpose of unavoidable damage against uncoordinated players
l i t e r a l l y git gud
there are what? two hitscan enemies in BFE? but yes they're a bad design choice, especially for a game that is pretty much purely for the gameplay.
but there are also enemies that shoot projectiles that can be avoided, which was the whole thing that started this.
>i want a first person shooter that has
>serious sam has neither.
and the reason there is no infighting is because there are only two "factions" all the enemies are united against you.
It looks really good and it actually tries to differentiate itself from the run of the mill shooters that are stagnating the market.
But I think it has shitty microtransactions/exp boosters and shit, correct?
No, Captain decided to sperg out and close the group. He even kicked out the guy who hosted the dedicated server.
There's a new group (and we're playing TSE today):
>not queen hatshepsut
>hell, not getting every achievement like a real autist
>he likes first encounter over the second encounter
TL;DR: The old admin had a power trip and got pissed off that people still played when he lost interest. He also didn't like the fact that the players who still played regularly didn't suck him off on a daily basis.
I don't really want to make assumptions about his motives, but he refuses to talk to anyone. Trust me, I've tried.
TSE is to Doom 2 what TFE is to Doom 1: More content, more enemies, worse levels. 1/3 of TSE is complete trash (Persia). TFE really only had Luxor as a shitty level.
First level sucks, second level is amazing, third level is alright with a shitty final boss.
It's a 7/10 at best. I'd pick it up when it's 90% off, and that's only because BFE Enhanced (and most other mods) requires it.
I think he meant SS2, since he mentions "the third".
TFE had better level design, TSE more content. It's the same thing as Doom vs Doom 2. TSE was "more of everything" - weapons, areas and things to kill.
>First level sucks
I thought it was the closest to a classic FPS level we've gotten in recent years, with it being open, somewhat non-linear, filled with secrets and relying on "keycard" hunting.
there's more than 2, like Shadow Warrior, Metro 2033 and Hard Reset.
Personally I also liked Necrovision. Objectively game is awful, but for some reason I ended up returning to it untill I completed it twice, and did all challenges.
>mfw Croteam made Talos Principle as well
I realize they hired an external writer for it, but at least they're not a one-trick pony.
Parse Error mod
Having 15000+ enemies per level is pretty normal in it.
>start serious sam 3
>wow holy fuck this is trash what did croteam do to this series
>small groups of hitscan enemies, aim down sights, hiding from helicopters, modern warfare fucking shit
>turn a corner and there is just a huge fucking swarm of enemies. No escalation, just goes from boring modern shooter to serious sam in the space of 3 seconds
>We never really got the full story with their failed military shooter.
Yeah, an actual "making of" of SS3 (or hell, SS in general) would be pretty neat.
Once it was a military shooter, then it was partly a Doom concept and another time it was a gritty realistic setting with SS2 assets.
I've only played the first Serious Sam, so I can't comment on the other ones, but that one wasn't a rehash of Doom. Serious Sam's "walk into arena -> arena gets closed off -> enemies spawn and keep on spawning until a set number of them have been killed -> arena opens again" type of design wasn't part of Doom or Doom-like games at all.
I don't think you know what that means.
that dust caught me completely off guard in HD (and it shows). But damn, HD is beautiful, especially nighttime levels look great
>no night levels in SS3
uh... when you start the game, you're supposed to move in direction of building, not the opposite way
there's hidden secret there, though
Why do you have a stick up your ass anon? They're both good games.
Unless you're talking about Doom 4. That game is literally Halo: Demons Edition, you shill.
Who really thinks it's like Doom, though? The only significant Doom-esque elements are the emphasis on strafing and the fact that you can dodge enemy projectiles. The games are fairly different in most other regards.
Even Halo-Doom looks better than Serious Sam. At least it has level design and somewhat more coherent art and enemies, despite having same level impactless guns and movement speed.
Yes that's the first encounter level metropolis you stupid faggot
There are no respawning enemies, or monster closets or whatever the fuck
What's with this website? Did everyone turn into a massive faggot overnight?
>Why is this allowed?
Because we don't live in some weird-ass alternate universe where you get to decide what a rehash is and isn't, where you get to decide how I spend my money and time, or what my opinions are, and that there's nothing really anyone can do to stop it that isn't illegal, immoral, or wrong. What are you going to do to stop me? Fuck SS and fuck you.
SS3:BFE was my 2011's GOTY.
It's a shame that it was completely overshadowed by the year's other, numerous AAA releases (Skyrim, BF3, the year's CoD...)
it's also damn amazing game for having a mere 0.5M $ budget.
I'm about to play The First Encounter for the first time. Which difficulty suits me best if I played stuff like Doom (and The Plutonia Experiment) on Ultra-Violence and Duke3D on Come Get Some to completion?
nice. SS3 starts choking at about x10 multiplier (2000-5000 enemies per level), and perfomance often dropped well bellow 30fps, when I was testing GTX550ti.
Pic related is the count of every enemy type in that level, the list goes on a bit though.
Assuming you played on normal you should only get 70 or so harpies.
I think he was talking about BFE, and if so, I'm sure he means fight with kleers and small scorpions, and I can understand confusion, as Kleers keep spawning and getting lost in level, while scorpions walk around blending with background.
Don't wanna brag like an autist, but am I the only one that never had problems with Serious Sam's difficulty? I played every game on serious and I still didn't have any problems, it was pretty easy.
>join populated coop
>take almost no damage
>enemies don't die
>yfw you realize you play a Normal difficulty Coop with enemy health set at 400%
SS3 starts out like a generic 1st person shooter for a good few levels before it starts to get good.
People who like SS3 quit because it takes too long to get good and codfags quit when the game gets good
>Complaining about Kleers instead of the millions of Arachnoids
>Complaining about Kleers at all
Don't get Revolutions. The development team is made up entirely of furries who fucking disabled voting on multiplayer servers because they kept getting votekicked.
besides, SSw/v/ doesn't play the classic games, just the HD versions
Enemy health scaling is a server-side config setting. Of course, you can't change it after a Revolutions server starts because of the aforementioned voting removal.
The game gets significantly better when you get to The Silent Riddler. That was the point where Croteam stopped recycling maps from their failed military shooter.
Kleers are best enemy in SS, regardless if you're crammed with bunch in tiny room, or there's hundreds coming from horizon
>Shadow Warrior 2013
The original's kung fu parody now becomes half-assed racism with Lo Wang being unable to drive properly, Japan and China being one and the same, and a bunch of other lazy azn digs.
The original weapon balance was complete garbage. Quick slice was useless with its huge interrupt and massive cooldown time for little damage. The pistol is overpowered, sluggish, and very necessary until the end. The uzi is a bullet hose that runs out of bullets before it kills anything (even with upgrades). The shotgun is a cotton candy canon on anything other than grunts. Glorious nipponsteel sword is the only weapon that satisfies.
Level design was all over the place and difficulty would whipsaw out of nowhere. A lot of levels had empty slogs and cramped fighting quarters. Explosive fixtures usually were placed in the worst locations for not blowing yourself up. Random ammo pickups threw away any consistency to fights.
Minibosses were more annoying than one with their bullet sponge nature. The ones that can only be hurt from the back just sucked the fun out of everything, especially on max difficulty; no block, no stun, no stamina no nothing, just hope you find something to hide behind when they charge.
The game could have been so good in the right hands.
