Now that the dirt has sedimented, can we take a moment to recognize just how much Nintendo cheaped out on one of their tentpole IPs?
What was this a tech demo of? Their render farm?
Seriously. I, as a huge Nintendo supporter, am disappointed in their decision to pull a fast one on their fans.
what's wrong with it?
cel shading such a lazy gimmick. WW had n64 level graphics, but they just slap on some pretty colors, throw in some decent lighting and everyone cums their pants.
OP, Nintendo's whole holding pattern is cheap. It'll roll out a couple games a year with a gimmick and slap one of their franchises on the cover. I don't get why anyone here expects a serious show of effort from Nintendo anymore. Mariomaker was literally "please make Mario interesting again autists, we know you're out there"
I wish we would've gotten the Tech demo graphics but it was all optimized for that scene so I doubt they would've hold steady frames with that.
They just went the cartoonish way to hide the lower graphics, but as long as gameplay is fun it's just a minor issue
>people still don't know what a fucking tech demo is
I want to fucking kill you all.
remember the 2000 spaceworld demo? The one that looked like absolute shit but people still got salty that WW looked nothing like it?
I'm amazed that it's been almost 20 years and nothing has changed.
>Zelda just don't work on handheld
Have you played the 2D Zeldas? Keyword, 2D. Spirit Tracks was a great 3D Zelda game worth the money I spent on it. Those remakes added nothing worth noting, and this was on the 3DS.
I said 3D, not 2d. Zelda 2 or the top-down ones are fine. Spirit Tracks was a failure, and I'm not looking to argue with some hipster who actually thinks Spirit Tracks was a good game unironically.
Looking back, it's remarkable how obvious it was what a turd the Wii U was. This is supposed to be a tech demo and it's obviously in 720p. Will Nintendo ever catch up to modern console standards or will they always be a generation behind?
Except Spirit Tracks was a liked game, and was ultimately better than Skyward Sword and even ALBW. I'll give you the Pan Flute, only because playing long songs on that can be tiring. It was the last Zelda game I'd call great.
And yet those same faggots call Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess the pinnacle of Zelda. Just because you and all those other faggots have shit taste doesn't mean I have to.
>I, as a huge Nintendo supporter
>people actually say stuff like this like they think others will believe it
Please get your eyes checked. Most of the backgrounds look like they're straight out of a 6th gen game. Some of them actually looked better in the 6th gen game they were inspired by, for instance, Dolphino Plaza looks better on a fucking gamecube than the Smash level does. The Wii U just can't handle 1080p
>A single room created to demonstrate the maximum possible power of their system in a prerendered cutscene
>A cherrypicked screenshot from genuinely in-engine footage on a game that was two years from release and has since significantly improved
All ALBW did was ride on the coattails of AlttP. You could get any weapon with enough money grinding, and the challenge was nonexistent save for the last boss. Even if you could go anywhere you wanted, it was still flawed. I'm not saying non-linearity was a bad thing, but there should have been a difficulty scale with what you did in whatever order.
I enjoyed it, but I didn't play it after I beat it.
The fact of the matter is Smash 4 isn't winning any awards for graphical fidelity. I am making no other claims about the game itself. It's just proof the Wii U is basically a toaster from 2009.
>graphics fags are always on about muh 60fps
>when a console game actually does 60fps and still looks decent it doesn't count and the console is a toaster lel
You don't have to zoom in on textures to know this looks like shit. You can see the texture resolution WITHOUT zooming in. Super Mario Sunshine looked BETTER THAN THIS, for fuck's sake. The water in particular was incredible looking and they replaced it with simple alpha blending
What this is basically saying is that the Wii U can not handle upscaling a GC game to 1080p. It's not powerful enough.
we've had enough MLP artstyle zelda, can't you fags be satisfied? wind waker looked pretty good, i'll admit it, but for god's sake the crayola shit has been milked to death. can we please have just 1 zelda that actually looks like the western fantasy that inspired it?
meant to attach this
>actually looks like the western fantasy that inspired it?
Pls no. Their artists in the 80s and 90s far outstripped ours.
Give me an HD game with a graphics style somewhere between OoT3D and Kingdom Hearts, please.
which they also did in brawl, which is where they ported the stage from. A more fair comparison would be the temple stage, or even onnet. Most of the new stages have a lot nice looking backgrounds, and all the stuff happening in TGCO.
>"...if this remaster has one problem, it's the frame-rate. While the majority of our time with the game produces a stable 30fps, as with the original, there are sequences where frame-rate drops are very noticeable. It's an issue that typically crops ups once a multitude of alpha effects are drawn, be it from your boat's cannon-fire, or when approaching certain islands. The impact of these dips is underscored by the fact Wind Waker HD's frame-rate is actually tied to its game speed, meaning 20fps lurches equate to slower, more sluggish gameplay. Such drops are, thankfully, momentary but do detract a bit from the game's polish - not a deal breaker by any means, but disappointing given the GameCube release runs free of any such problems."
The Wii U is not powerful enough to run GC games full speed at 1080p.
>The fact of the matter is Smash 4 isn't winning any awards for graphical fidelity.
Get your eyes checked. Then show me a better-looking game.
I'll wait. Nah, I won't. But you still have to prove it to everyone else in this thread.
there's good western fantasy art bro
>Give me an HD game with a graphics style somewhere between OoT3D and Kingdom Hearts, please.
i'm ok with this actually. i don't hate colors i'm just sick of SD chibi and pastel bullshit
>Looking back, it's remarkable how obvious it was what a turd the Wii U was. This is supposed to be a tech demo and it's obviously in 720p. Will Nintendo ever catch up to modern console standards or will they always be a generation behind?
>Will Nintendo ever catch up to modern console standards or will they always be a generation behind?
>other modern consoles cant run gamecube ports at 60fps
>WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH MODERN CONSOLES
The RE HDs are a lot more impressive looking than WWHD. WWHD has slightly higher resolution textures and some bloom, and that's it
But I digress, you're right. You've proven conclusively that Wii U is as powerful as the PS4
REHD is using prerendered backgrounds from a fucking SD game on the gamecube, the game is running on a PS3 at the same framerate as the PS4 version, its not impressive at all.
Wind Waker HD is just new lighting effects while REHD is just touched up models.
i have found you a google link
Oh don't bother. I'm just being a shit. We mostly agree anyhow. I'm not a fan of WWs Western-inspired art any more than you are. I've wanted them to go back to either realism or the manga inspired art direction for years.
PS EGM made this comparison first but I found this image on google pointing to IGN.
PPS I would have posted some Frazetta inspired art for an RP lady friend of mine but I don't think I have permission from either the artist or her.
>people still salty about Toon Link
Gift that keeps on giving.
Thats why I push for the 80s or 90s Manga style, like God intended.
Lord of the Rings. Around the time of Wind Waker's release, there was the Two Towers, I think that got really popular, and the LotRfaggots somehow got into Zelda, hoping that would be the same way. Skyrim/Dark Souls are now the go-to series that people want Zelda to incorporate elements from.
