I can't really decide between assassin and destroyer. During the beta I got to level 13-14 or so with, but that didn't help me pick between the two.

I'll be playing the game with three other friends: a kung fu master, a blade master, and a force master. I'm under the impression the first two are kind of tanky, at least as much as a class can be in this game, but between assassin and destroyer, what do you guys think would be the better choice?

I've never done a dungeon or a raid in this game so I don't really know what to expect, or whether one of the two classes brings something uniquely beneficial to the table. Of course destroyers can grab things, but don't assassins have their own pros beyond stealth and mobility?

Either way both were a lot of fun when I played them in the beta, so I'd enjoy either, but at least initially I don't think I'll be able to maintain two characters and keep them leveled up.

Assassins pros are some of the highest DPS in the game, especially PvE.

Destroyer mostly fulfils a tank role, but if you anicancel you can still DPS too.

Yeah, in Runescape quests were like rewards for progression. Sometimes they were like little adventure games and others were extra challenging fights but were always a fun way to break up the usual grind and earn big rewards. Quests would open up new/faster ways to train skills, unique sets of armor, shortcuts, towns, and powerful weapons.

I hate that in most MMOs all your progression is through questing because nothing else rewards you for doing it. No point in farming enemies for gear or raising a crafting skill when you automatically get equipment for every little task. No point in wandering around the map because if a quest marker didn't lead you there it means there's no content. But the very worst part is that you can hardly ever play with other people because they're never on the same quest you are. Nothing is more boring than doing on the same 15 crows feet quest over and over again just so your party is finally on the same page. And then they start leaving before you can move forward with your quests because you've all been playing for so long already.

I theorize they're pretty understaffed to produce the content people want. Initially they were probably given a shit load of assets because SE wanted them to dig out XIV from the grave it was put into by the previous devs, so they were able to provide as much content as ARR had (not to mention many of the assets were already created). For HW, they likely had a huge budget to hire a bunch of people to get the initial game experience done, but endgame was backlogged and left to the skeleton crew remaining after release.

That being said, XIV is doing incredibly well, especially in Japan, it's just the endgame experience just isn't where people want it to be.
