It's probably because I only started playing last month, but I don't understand why people so compulsively blow large amounts of money on these badges. I only became interested due to hearing you could put badges on your folders since I have a fuck ton of folders and they all blend together when you can only tell them apart at a glance by a single letter or number. I've only spent money on badges that I think really go well on a certain folder, launcher badges I like, or Splatoon shit because I'm a filthy squidfucker. And even then, I only spent $6
It's amazing how much they learnt after rusty in terms of how to make the character selling you shit actually make you want to buy shit
Baito is super well designed in terms of cuteness, charm and fluid animation to look appealing and lower your defenses so you're more susceptible to agreeing to pay money. It's an absolutely dick move but it's very well done
>>324008312 Even him just hand waving saying "it's ok!" When you tell him you don't want to spend money is devilish. He really has a ton of personality to make it work. Honestly Nintendo really knows how to do weird DLC. And really the only person to blame to pay money is you since in the end it really is pointless badges.
It's really incredibly at the end of the day when you think about it
nintendo are so well versed in the art of manipulation that they can actually get people to pay money for jpegs (or just the chance of earning them, rather) by wrapping it up in a game with a cute rabbit
Everything down to the practice catcher giving you a taste of how the game works and the scene layouts being specially designed to dick you over and require the most crane uses possible (those hook badges are especially dickish since they require one use each but also usually require you to clear the junk above them first). They've nailed the perfect balance of being rewarding enough for casual non payers without letting them get everything, and also being just not enough free stuff to tip the 1% over into dishing out money
I almost can't help but respect the amount of effort that's gone into making it as manipulative as possible
>>324008074 Rusty was more about hitting you with an emotional hammer. With him trying to feed his kids. Also it's pull was kind of like Steam sales. Where the full price game looks too hit but 40% looks tempting.
Baito's pull is just being cute. He loves talking about games and showing off his knowledge in fun ways. He acts like any kid that likes Nintendo games. Which lures you in a false sense when asked if you are willing to spend a buck on a few tries. Also getting free themes which makes you spend that one extra buck. >>324009156 Nintendo really is the master of that shit. I actually feel they didn't do DLC for that whole console cycle just because they were writing notes on how people were reacting to it. You kind of see it since they haven't really done anything to piss off people yet (outside of those that just hate DLC as a whole). And this is just a F2P game to just get badges so there's literally no reason to complain. But you know that they are collecting data and going to find a way to use it on other things.

>Talks vidya >Trys to be knowledgeable about all games >Lure you into buying all sorts of stuff Wait a minute, that reminds me of...
>>324010239 I have no idea what they are going to do with amiibo. Actually what they wanted it for is for people to only buy your favorite so it gives something extra. Like if you enjoy Kirby games you would get a Kirby amiibo which would give you a Kirby skin in Mario Kart. It wasn't really meant to be lock out content. Just bonus for people that like the characters. But NA fucked that up royally. Where it because a collector item. So Nintendo has to do a complete rework on how they were going to look at amiibo.
>>324010562 Miss the cute part. Honestly outside the start where he says something like "if you don't spend money we will go broke!" He never really push the money part. Just after your free try ask if you want to spend a buck for more tries. It's subtle in a way that most people might want to try at least once. Then the game tells you that if you spend another buck you will get a free theme. And by that point you already deep. Remember once you spend it once it becomes easier to spend more.
>>324010586 Actually to build on what I was saying that is why there was a shortage. NoA just felt people would only buy their character. So smaller known characters (Shulk, FE characters, ect) had less made. And making them in bulk takes time. Plus they must have had agreements with GameStop and others which only stopped recently. Which is why you can basically find what you want now. >>324011047 Maybe but I feel over time it would take more time than the cost. But like I said I think Nintendo has a good idea on doing DLC right and I feel they are going crazy trying to get amiibo stuff right. Since we are stepping into unheard of territory. And if they fuck it up the backlash will be giant. There's already people complaining over Mario Party and Animal Crossing AF.
>>324008312 >implying I bought all the mini games because of artifical sales pitches >implying it wasnt because it was a decent $15 baseball sim and made me wish for a full game I've spent more money on worse games I'm sure.
Ever since Wii Sports baseball I've wanted a deeper arcadey baseball sim
>>324011359 I owned it back before CFW was a thing, and as of right now there isn't a homebrew cheat engine outside of GW so you can't Jew the bunny out of his sheckels if you don't have GW. No need to be jealous, Anon.
>>324010586 Amiibos are really tricky, I like that they act like a season pass and with a single amiibo you unlock content in a lot of games, but not every character is like this and this is a problem Also they are walking on thin ice with the whole "If the amiibos unlocks meaningful content, people who don't care about them feel like they're losing stuff, If the amiibos unlocks only meaningless shit, people don't have a reason to buy them and the ones that buy feel like they wasted money"
>>324011047 That's not really good bacause people can lend amiibos to each other and they lose DLC sales with that, unless you're talking about getting the DLC code with the amiibo's purchase, but they've been releasing the DLC way earlier than the amiibos, so it's not possible now
>>324016106 As I said Nintendo first thought was people just buying the amiibo of their favorite character. And if it unlocks something fun for them (something small like a costume) it will be fun for you. It was never really made to be meaningful. The problem right now is that amiibo has gotten way more popular than Nintendo wanted it and it actually now fucks with their plans. They are now walking on a tightrope on what to do. I actually have no idea what they will do but I do trust them that they won't go full EA and lock important stuff behind it. Seem TP HD wolf Link will have a bonus dungeon which might be the most they will really go for. I think maybe a good middle ground will be if you have the amiibo you get it for free but if you don't you can pay $2 and unlock it. Not really ideal but I feel it will settle a lot of people complaining about people not allowed to play locked content without the amiibo.
>>324016948 I think Nintendo is just trying random things and seeing what works and what doesn't. But never to a level people really has any strong reactions too. So they can do one thing and if people doesn't like how it was handled it was never at level that caused a giant uproar. We might see more of those amiibo cards or we might see something else.
Like how one of Nintendo's first jump into Season Pass was Mario Golf but they also lowered the actual game by $5 so buying more content seem like not a bigger deal.
