Knowing the current Pokken roster as it is, would you rather have had the roster restricted to only fighting-types?
tfw Pokken does welll they look into a sequel expanding the roster.
What is is with this stupid fighting types only meme? Are you fucking retarded or something? When in the mainline pokemon games are fighting types the only ones allowed to fight?
Well they are based off of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee respectively
>the roster restricted to only fighting-types?
Where the fuck did this horrible meme come from? Other types offer far more variety in fighting styles.
The only way that could possibly work would be if there were hybrid fighting pokemon with every other type.
No. I do want more Fighting-types but some of the Pokémon choices like Weavile/Sceptile/O++O are great and I don't want to get rid of them, even if I hate shit like two Pikachus and two Mewtwos.
That's probably even more insulting to some people.
And we dont even know how the Mewtwos play. Probably one will be more close quarters while the other is more psychic and range.
I think a fighting game with just fighting-type Pokemon would be diverse enough to be fun, and you could be add a bit of depth without resorting to gimmicks. There's plenty of actual martial arts these pokemon imitate. Just from a starting roster you have
That's 10 right there, and each could have a unique moveset without being imitations of each other. Primeape and Hitmonchan could differ with different types of boxing, Throh and Sawk with whatever they're supposed to be (I think judo? kendo?).
All in all it'd make for an interesting fighting game without resorting to gimmicks, assists, or 2D/3D arena stuff.
While i would like more Fighting types in the game i was thinking mixed fighting types too, like Gallade and Infernape. Pure fighting sounds like it wouldnt be a great showcase of what a pokemon fighting game could be.
I mean yeah, I didn't even get to the ones who have Fighting as a secondary or mega evolutions, it was just the base. Mega Lopunny and Mega Heracross would be fun as hell.
I just didn't want to include any of those horses
or mention Lucario or Blaziken.
No, they aren't. That's just their English namesakes, which don't make any sense at all compared to their Japanese ones. When was Jackie Chan a fucking boxer? Why not Hitmonali (Muhammad Ali) or Hitmonson (Mike Tyson) or something?
Ebiwalar (Hitmonchan) is named after Hiroyuki Ebihara, the Japanese world champion boxer.
Sawamular (Hitmonlee) is named after Tadashi Sawamura, a famous kickboxer.
Is this a thread about people upset that Chandelure is in the game? Because Chandelure is fucking awesome.
Hitmontop would be fun. Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee wouldn't really be that cool- if I am going to play a Pokemon-themed fighter, I'd hope it leans into the Pokemon thing to deliver stuff that you couldn't just get from Street Fighter, etc. I guess Hitmonlee brings his spring-legs to the table, at least.
i like their current direction; a variety of pokemon
it's just that there's a handful of absences that make me mildly butthurt, ie. hitmonchan and hawlucha, fighting types with clear archetypes that would lend themselves well to this kind of game
but so far the roster's good but when there's like 700 to theoretically choose from, people are gonna dislike 2 pikachus and 2 mewtwos (though i like shadow mewtwo admittedly)
Chandelure is in the game? What the fuck? Rather than have that literal they could have given it to some other not necessarily popular but still beloved by a few picks. Seriously, who the fuck asked for Chandelure? I have seen no one and nothing indicating any considerably amount of people wanted it in the game.
>Chandelure is shit taste
Yeah fuck you mate. In a game where they can go wild with pokemon I'd much rather they go wild and put in crazy shit than go the boring route and just make it fighting types or all gen 1 picks.
If anything I think they could have gone a bit crazier with it.
Well fuck you too buddy, i dont mind going crazy but it should be crazy picks that arent also retarded like a fucking chandelier. If you want crazy for the sake of being crazy and stupid you may as well throw in Klefki while your at it.
They're fine as pokemon but not for a fucking fighting game.
To me, Chandelure is basically the Wii Fit Trainer of Pokken. It's an out of left field character that nobody expected, but then you realize why they were chosen. Chandy was voted the most popular Pokémon in a Japanese B/W poll, while Wii Fit was one of Nintendo's highest-selling games.
Pikachu: Standard (but plays like a speed from what i've seen)
Pikachu libre: Unknown, but i've heard speed
Mewtwo: Unknown, probably Standard or Technique
Chandelure: Almost certainly technique
Braixen: Almost certainly technique
Shadow mewtwo: Probably standard.
Wobbuffet as a counter specialist? Or a swarm of unown that use their body to form attacks? Or a Steelix as the big body / giant character fighters usually have? I always thought he'd be cool.
He was only the most popular among gen 5 specifically, likely because they needed some rep from that one so they just went with what japan liked the most. I dont know if the poll said most popular gen 5 rep for pokken, if it was i think it'd be a bit different.
I don't think those are bad ideas or anything (and the roster is pretty lacking in gen 2 reps) but I don't see how a bunch of Unown is less silly than Chandelure.
Seems like anything based on something that's not an animal always draws a bizarre and disproportionate amount of hate.
Well it'd offer a different moveset than anything in the game, Chandelure is a ghost / fire type who looks like it's pretty much just going to be more focused on using fire specials and not really physically attacking.
Gengar fits best as the ghost type and there's already an abundance of fire on the roster.
>This is one of the most disappointing rosters for a fighting game in a long time.
>Killer Instinct at launch
J-Stars Victory Vs +
>Final Fantasy Dissidia
Over all this roster isn't that bad even if your favorite isn't in.
But muh blue color is a hint
But muh japanese letter
But muh patterns and lack of water starter
But muh rosterfaggotry
Those rosters were not as bad in comparison come on now. Who the fuck whats to play as braxien, chandelure, gardevoir, suicune, or TWO pikachus? Thats not only GAY but also STUPID. Maybe it would be different if the game actually had a large roster but it doesn't at all and all these are wasted slots.
Blankafag. Mainly it being 15 characters it the let down. Even MKX had what, 25 playable at start? And a full story mode.
Some of that stuff is just a given, waifufags are such a big part of course Gardiavoir woud be in. Chandelure won the vote for most popular Gen V pokemon in Japan when the game was new, and ranked highest in votes with girls for their favorite Gen V. Suicune is kinda cool in that it's a four legged fighter, but yeah I think Braxien should have been it's final form.
I don't care about Swampert but damn do I want a water starter. They were always my favorites and all the fire is a let down.
People like starters, they're a bit personal since you start your game with them. Super Mystery dungeon is a celebration of starters by letting you pick your own and having all the ones from every gen.
Hitmonchan would play like Steve Fox, with moves that have you dash back to bait then charge forward, and use a lot of movement in his melee. Primape would just rush down to rape.
I want to play as Chandelure and Suicune
If they throw in Scyther it'll be a dream roster for me along with Mewtwo, Charizard and Gengar. It's like they're specifically pandering to me.
Chanduelure is based is fuck
Gen V needs more love
I would be so happy if my favourite 'mon got in.
Do we even have any reveal left or was Chandelure the last character?
A little bummed my favorites (Chesnaught and Empoleon) are probably not getting in but outside of that, the roster looks solid.
Pokken Wii U confirmed for 30 fps. But you can get 60 fps if you connect another Wii U via LAN.
I think character select screen has 20 slots, and we know 16. Granted that might not be the final screen so there might be less pokemon playable. They are staying silent about how many pokemon will be playable/support but I bet they have DLC planned for this game with how well it did for Sm4sh.
>In the local battle, using the Wii U GamePad and the "pop fist" corresponding controller, it is possible to make the play on a single Wii U! Player, monitor and TV screen and game pad screen, trying to play with each!
>Introduction of the corresponding controller
>Wii U GamePad
>Wii U PRO controller
>Classic Controller PRO
>To use it requires the Wii Remote and the >Wii Remote Plus.
>"Pop fist" dedicated controller for Wii U
>The online battle, it is possible to enjoy the two battle ranked matches and friendly match.
In the friendly match, with anyone other that you can feel free to play, and can play against and people who registered the friend code, a person who entered the same competition code.
>The ranks match, to be able to obtain the rank pointed to by match results, the height and wins rank points, and can compete ranking!
>※ In the local battle, the video to be projected to the game pad and the monitor will be a thing of 30fps. All In other play format you will be able to play the video of 60fps.
>※ Connect the Wii U of two in the LAN cable, there is also can enjoy mode at 60fps.
So basically, the WiiU shits the bed when two people play locally because one of the player use the Gamepad screen. Only way to have smooth local gameplay is having 2 setups.
Not surprised, the WiiU is a piece of shit.
Actually, Shadow Mewtwo isn't part of the character select screen, he's amiibo card-only nonsense so isn't playable in arcade.
Assuming they fill out the entire thing, we have 5 reveals left.
People really think he will be anything other then a costume for Mewtwo?
I sure hope not but now I'm scared.
>isn't playable in arcade
But he's playable in the regular version once you unlock it. You can unlock it without the card so, unless you can only select him via holding a button and then picking Mewtwo (which would make sense), he'll still be present on the CSS.
Confirmed secret boss, Famicom.
I understand that some characters are in, like Charizard, Gardevoir, Gengar, etc.. They are some of the most beloved by fans...
But, who the fucks loves Chandelure? I think is a good Pokemon in the rpg game. But who the fucks want him in a figthing game?
They just want to make you say "Oh, I,ve never expect that!!" but that,s just stupid. And is even more stupid knowing that there are no Pokemon like the Hitmon family, Heracross (japanese LOVE Heracross), or something cool like a metamorphic Deoxys that changes his shape constantly in the middle of the battle...
Chandelure... Fuck this gay earth.
>unless you can only select him via holding a button and then picking Mewtwo (which would make sense)
I expect something like that to happen, that or a special input similar to old games like Garou. I don't think he'll be part of the regular roster, at least.
At worst, it's still 4 characters left, not like it's that huge of a deal.
>not wanting to beat scrubs with a chandelier
I could see that happening, especially when it's been the norm for fighting games for quite a while now.
If I had it my way, I'd just add Vigoroth, Heracross, Swampert and Aggron. There, a varied roster made of fan-favorites
>hating on Mienshao, Breloom, Heracross, Hawlucha, Machamp, Pangoro
2/10. Made me reply. Fighting has so many bros.
Gen 5 needs more love, but I was really pulling for Reuniclus, Golurk or Carracosta. I really don't see what Chandelure will have over Gengar, or the other 3 fire types in this game? It's not popular, and it doesn't even have arms.
If we can get four Fire-types, we can get on more Fighting-type.
i believe you can still use wii u pro controller in local game. those dedicated controllers are probably a gimmick, just like fightpads when street fighter series are comming out.
But still, i wonder why they even bother with wii u gamepad. In naruto retarded ninja storm you can freely use both pads without having a splitscreen, and this is casualized fighting game in 3d, just like pokken.
I don't see much there normal Mewtwo can't do, once you change the animation of his super. High chance I'm wrong given two pickachus are in the game, but I sure hope there is only one Mewtwo.
Actually, I'd say there's more JoJos than just 9 if you want to get technical about the Joestar birthmark
>Part 4 Jotaro
>New Moon Pucci
Fuck no, fighting types only would be fucking boring.
However still don't like the second Pikachu, Edgelord Mewtwo, and fucking Braixen. Otherwise with Chanderlure with no limbs and Suicine as a quadruped for examples, the direction of the roster is pretty fucking radical
because muh fighting game should only be FIGHTING types
Besides, I don't care there are so many fire types, all it just means is it's obviously the developers' favorite type. Give the reins to anyone and there's gonna be favorite type bias regardless.
Hell like if I were in charge of the roster, there'd be a lot more water, dragons, and psychics
either way, happy for fire bros
Even if it's two groups, it's a retarded mindset.
Pokemon fighting has always involved multiple types, only retarded gym leaders stick to one type and it's mostly because they're stuck to its guidelines.
The roster would be straight up better if it was just Pikachu clones. The longer I play pokemon the more I realize that Pikachu is just a better design than any other pokemon.
>There's too many fire types!
That's a hilarious line in the context of Pokemon, considering lack of fire pokemons has been a complain for a long time.
to be fair, gym leaders were supposed to be like masters of their types, until like apparently any faggot can be a gym leader and not take their job seriously. Elite 4 also are supposed to be hot shit with their types too.
everyone else went with multi types
they're not masters, the E4 are, the gym leaders are mostly to "test" participants for the actual E4 fights
If Cheren is anything to go by (no, the game started it way before Origins), they actually prefer to multitype
I'm really fucking happy we got Chandelure. There needs to be more like it.
Pokemon is awesome because it has 700 creatures based off all sorts of stupid shit. And while I think Pokken looks fantastic, prior to Chandelure, the only playable Pokemon in the entire game that wasn't a bipedal and almost humanoid was Suicune.
If we get anymore characters then I hope we get more things that you wouldn't see in any other game.
It's great. Having Braixen ride the stick (lewd) like a witch broom is a great touch.
Kinda still wish they went with Delphox, though, especially since it also has the magic wand stick.
Having an NFE pokemon that isn't Pikachu is really goddamn weird.
>Kinda still wish they went with Delphox
Unless it's your favourite, why?
>Having an NFE pokemon that isn't Pikachu is really goddamn weird.
No, not really.
I've only seen this "fully evolved only" autism on /vp/.
Autism, then, I guess?
I like Quilava and Wartortle way more than Typhlosion and Blastoise, but if they were to include the line in Pokken I would prefer the fully evolved forms.
Can we just replace the two duel fighting Pokemon in the game with actually good ones? Machamps the only Fighting type I like in the game. Kung-Fu Chicken is overrated and you can fire Game Freaks Lightning right into the sun for all I care
I don't hate Chandelure, but it wouldn't even hit my top five of Ghost Pokemon to be added.
I'm honestly more annoyed that it's a Fire Type. Do people seriously use Fire types in game aside from people with awful Starter taste?
Alakazam should be in the game and like an M.Bison zoning type.
HERACROSS NEEDS YOUR ENERGY TO GET INTO POKKEN
WHERE YOU AT, HERA-BROS?
There's still no Rock Pokemon, so they really should add a Fossil for that.
I'm hoping for Aerodactyl out of the various Dino's but at this point I'll even take the weird dick flower one
I dunno, chandelure looks kinda weird floating on the ground
no, it hovered in midair
serebii, new pictures got leaked
So lets assume, rhetorically speaking, there are five more Pokemon to be revealed and they are:
Which selections would make you the happiest?
Which would make you the angriest?
Why does it matter?
Its a pokemon fighting game its great that non fighting types are making it in but why wouldn't they make the most iconic fighting types playable is beyond me especially since they fit real world fighting styles it would be easy to develop moves and fit them into the game. At least we got machamp.
>Still no Rhydon
HOW CAN YOU HAVE A POKEMON FIGHTING GAME WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL 'MON?
>Swampert. Water is my least favorite type but Swampy is legit. Quagsire or Manaphy would also be acceptable.
>Scizor, the OG usable bug.
>Slaking as the wall of pain
>AZ Floette, the cutest damn Fairy
And of course gotta get this bad boy for an Electric rep.
Not really interested in this game but this fucker deserves a spot
Just found out that Chandelure, my favorite fucking pokemon got in, which made me decide to get this game on release. So no. All fightings would be kinda boring and lackluster.
Most popular Gen V mon as voted by Japan by a wide margin. Even moreso than the starters, legendaries, and waifumons.
When I was a kid playing pokemon stadium I kind of always wanted there to be a game where you could physically control the pokemon like this. Now I obviously know that it's unrealistic to have every pokemon but it's still doesn't mean I just want fighting types.
it has local, lan, and online
If you watch youtube vids, notice how they are all focused on a single player. It's because the arcade supports a single player, multiplayer is between two machines.
4 slots really also Gardevoir is the fairy one, that said:
-Greninja (water/dark also and amiibo stuff)
-Rhydon (megahorn and stone edge)
-Jigglypuff (iconic also amiibo stuff)
>Greninja (because it's the most popular gen 6 pokemon). His burst mode will be his Ash forme
>Lopunny (because furry pandering and she's got a mega now so she fits nicely in this game)
I don't care about the other 2, I just want those 2 in the game
Pokémon @Pokemon 1m1 minute ago
#PokkenTournament is coming to Wii U on March 18, 2016!
too late for evo? or will nintendo moneyhat a spot?
the game is still missing a normal type, and lopunny is easily one of the most popular
Let's be honest. Nobody likes any of the starters or legendaries from Gen 5 except Victini and maybe Meloetta. Emolga would step on Pikachus toes and Zoroark bombed hard. If Gen 5 had a rep it would've had to been an unimportant yet popular mon. I was thinking Scrafty or Minccino here.
Mewtwo also ME into Mega X. Shit's fuucking stupid.
They always promote Mewtwo Y over Mewtwo X, but give him Mewtwo X in this game.
They always promote Charizard X over Charizard Y... and still use Charizard X in this game.
I rather would've had Emboar, Bisharp or Krookodile, but this is good. Finally gen 5 reps.
Samurott would potentially be great as a Siegfried style swordsman character. People dislike him but I think the biggest problem was the art they've used. He looks much better when going Biped.
>Knowing the current roster is
You make it sound like the roster is bad. When the roster is actually amazing.
As for your question, fuck no.
Could there have been less fire types? Sure. Could there have been atleast one or two more fighting types? Sure.
But the roster is way more creative and diverse than I was even expecting so far.
At the start I would have said no because I wanted nidoking, golurk and scyther. But after seeing what we got I'd rather they throw out the whole roster and use fighting types just so we have a chance at getting someone that I'd want to play. Maybe then I'd get hitmonlee, scrafty, or heracross.
It's not that I hate every pokemon they chose, they just all happen to be mons I'm not a huge fan of. I like charizard, pikachu, and lucario just fine but I'm tired of them. I don't hate anybody on there at least, but I'm not getting it if I don't have anyone I want to play as. Maybe mewtwo I guess.
>Masked Pikachu, which was supposedly voted in by South Korea or some shit, and a boss variant of a character completely invalidate everything else
Next you'll complain that Lucario is in there and that it completely ruins everything.
They fucked the european boxart up.
>Shadow Mewtwo is a boss not a playable character
You're literally an idiot.
They confirmed a while ago Shadow Mewtwo is playable. He's unlocked by either doing stuff in-game, or instantly unlocked with the amiibo card.
People continuously deluding themselves into thinking he's not playable after that confirmation should really just fuck off.
>especially since they fit real world fighting styles it would be easy to develop moves and fit them into the game.
That's why they aren't in the game, dumbass. Play another game if you want muh real fighting styles, don't clutter this already limited game with unimaginative shit. The most iconic fighting type, Machamp, is already there anyway.
What's stopping any video game from doing such a thing?
Try saying that again.
Out of the current roster, who will your main be?
is this gonna be like basically a mewtwo amiibo outside of pokken the same way toon link's amiibo essentially functions as a link amiibo in most games, or is it gonna be worthless aside from pokken?
Lucario's more iconic, though.
>Only 1 gen 2 mon
>Only 1 gen 5 mon
>Only 1 gen 6 mon
>5 gen 1 mons, also 2 variants
I'll probably main libre, garchomp and chandelure.
Gengar, Garchomp, or Chandelure.
>Tfw the roster has 3 of your favorite pokemon
People are more mad at the fact that South Korea voted Luchachu in when there is a perfectly capable Luchador Pokemon they could have used.
I can understand why people are upset over Luchachu's inclusion. I personally just don't care cause I stopped caring about character rosters a long time ago.
>More people than love Feraligatr, that's for sure. But then Johtomons are shit almost without exception.
/vp/, contrarian as it is, actually has a huge boner for the non-Meganium Johto starters and often votes the two as a favorite.
But they're indeed shittier than one of the few good Gen 5 mons.
I never thought Chandelure would make it in a million years. That made the reveal so much better.
I like the idea of NFE's being able to throw down with the big kids outside of the main games' RPG mechanics. I mean, evolution is a huge commitment for some trainers. You get more power at the cost of your Pokemon needing to learn a new body, that could fuck up the fighting mojo for someone to the point where they'll never quite be the same. Actual trainers would have to weigh the cost and benefits of evolution, and a lot of them would probably not go through with it and be better off for it.
That probably sounds super autistic, but whatever, this is /v/.
Pikachu because he can EWGF
