>>323976534 The little stump messengers off to the right when you exit from the back left in the Hunter's Dreams, talk to them. They're just little cosmetic items for the messengers that you lay down for people. Some can wear the Ribbon (it's more of a bonnet), Top hats, Pots. There are only like 5-6 in the game total if I recall.
>>323978148 Maria/Kos are the hardest mandatory bosses, unless you're counting base game, then I'd consider Shadows of Yharnam, just because of how easy you can fuck that boss fight up, depending on who you take out first.
Best theme is Maria's though.
Hardest optional boss is Headless Bloodletting Beast by far with his dumbass hitboxes and wonky moveset.
>>323978496 ebrietas is piss easy son, be patient, you can't be against gascoigne gascoigne admittedly is only the hardest maingame boss if you dont use the box, upgrade your weapon, or summon, but he's a beast with those limits
ludwig's theme doesn't hold up well outside of the fight, it relies on the presentation and cutscene
alright one of you fucks better explain this >finish first playthrough as pure str user >fun as fuck, smashing shit with kirkhammer and then turning everything into ground beef with whirlgig saw >"oh boy, I can't believe I'm actually excited to try a dex run!" >start game, get threaded cane >neat.png >go kill cleric beast, upgrade it a little bit >decide to go look up BB weapons to see what other cool pure dex weapons I can get along the way >mfw What the fuck? There are almost 0 pure dex weapons in the main game, almost all of them are either in the DLC which is endgame shit or have bloodtinge scaling on them and are half-firearms. Where the fuck are all the dex weapons?
>>323980470 I kept hearing that the blades of mercy suck though, and the scythe you don't get until NG+ >inb4 bold hunters mark yes I know but I'm playing offline so I can't pvp and don't care about chalice dungeons. I guess I'll just have to try the blades out for myself. >>323980714 I'll have to try it and see, to me it just looked like a saw cleaver but without the serration damage.
>>323981036 Blades of Mercy is fantastic for stunlock tons of enemies, it's only issue is it has the shortest reach in the game, and is ultimately outclassed by the Rakuyo in the DLC, that and for some bosses, it's just terrible against. Otherwise it'll beast mode you through the game.
I used it and absolutely destroyed Gehrman my first attempt on my first playthrough like it was nothing.
>>323981209 The blades of mercy's issues are >no reach >pitiful scaling and AR >bad DPS until you've been mashing for over two seconds, such opportunities are very rare >only 1 charged r2, which, while fast, has a ridiculously narrow vertical hitbox that can miss easily >can't compare at all to saif or rakuyo >completely shut down by wooden shield / loch shield / lead elixir
>half of the areas in Bloodborne were as linear as Dark Souls 2's areas, except Bb had elevators which connected the beginning, middle and end of the level, which was not in any way on par with Dark Souls 1's intertwining paths and shorcuts. >can't invade people who don't have summons with >all armor set are either: a coat, a mess of plumes, or a tuxedo with a cape >enemies don't drop any kind of armor since enemy variety is minimal to the point where you see first level enemies all the way through to the last areas >bosses don't drop any type of "boss soul" so most of the time you get no lore for them >no wrapping between lanterns > have to return to Hunter's Dream everytime >can't rest at lanter to respawn enemies, have to die or go back to Hunter's dream again >Blood Vials don't refill evetrime you rest at a lantern, despite only being able to carry 20 (more with runes) at a time. You have to buy/farm them, so you can't endesly try to fight a boss without having to go get more vials every few attempts, which could have been fixed very easily by just always giving you 20 vials or less everytine you respawn >NCP's more forgettable than the ones in Dark Soul 2 >game is supoosed to center around the health recovery mechanic but most bosses 1-2 shoot you to death >can't look back at environment and say "wow, I remember I was there! And how I walked all the way to here! Oh look, a tower in the distance! I bet I'll eventually go there!" Since there are so much random pointy buildings and towers all around you don't even get to go inside of, you can't tell where you've been before. >"Unseen village" is lower than regular Yharnam, anyone can see it from a balcony >assets are reused AGAIN to the point where they put dog (same enemy which we have seen in literally every Souls game) heads on crows and crow heads on dogs and call it a new enemy >story more obtuse than any other soul games, no real answers for main plot elements
>>323975037 This was my favorite boss of 2015 mostly because Bayonetta 2's final boss was shit compared to the first one and because I was still getting comfortable with the controls and really satisfied with beating the Cleric Beast and then this fucker shows up with this shit playing https://youtu.be/kA614N3IHD4?t=1m like THE TRUE DEMON'S SOULS STARTS HERE you little twink
>>323981493 >no reach True >pitiful scaling and AR Attack rating sure, but they have an S scaling with Skill, the highest of any weapon skill wise if I recall. >bad DPS Honestly, I never had this issue, I almost always was able to get out more attacks consistently considering how fast they were and how easy they stunlocked. >charged R2 True, which is why I rarely used it honestly >can't compare to Saif or Rakuyo Can't argue that. >shut down by shields/elixer You can get past both shields, especially Wooden Shield by mashing fast enough, and most people wont be using it in PvP honestly. Loch Shield is a bit harder, but it blocks mostly magic. Lead Elixir is a different story however.
For the base game, no DLC, they're fine weapons to be using, just learn to switch out dependent on bosses, such as Headless Bloodletting or Defiled Watch Dog, ugh, god both were nightmares with the BoM.
>>323981989 You just dodge to the side with Ludwig and then attack his butt while he's lying there. I honestly found Ludwig to be far easier than either of those two.
Then again, that's what I love about Souls, everyone has different problems with different bosses depending on play styles. I always see people complain about Defiled Amgydala too and I didn't get hit once in that fight, didn't even come close to getting hit.
>>323981968 >Attack rating sure, but they have an S scaling with Skill, the highest of any weapon skill wise if I recall. Yes, but scaling and gems are extremely dependent on base damage. 120 at +10 is nothing. Rakuyo and Saif, which have A, go up to 600~700 AR easy.
Blades of Mercy doesn't get past shields, it bounces off.
I just use them for backstabbing, they're a SKL build's Augur of Ebrietas.
>>323982569 I hear people talk about how hard orphan is, but he only killed me once.
I did pay attention to his attacks though, so I knew the second time that he was actually not as hard as people made him out to be, a lot of his attacks are easy to dodge compared to some of the bullshit tracking and hit boxes that exist in BB.
I thought he was fun as fuck.
Laurence on the other hand was the boss for me that would sometimes decide to kill me in the first 5 seconds of the fight or just stand there and not do shit except let me kill him
maybe, I died to Ludwig probably 4 times and then beat the rest of the bosses on my first try. (Although with no blood vials left for Orphan or Laurence) If you can git gud at the first phase of Ludwig the second half is pretty simple.
>>323982782 funny because laurence only killed me once that's probably because I was using a +10 whirlgig saw and after I popped a beast pellet he didn't stand a chance I thought orphan was fun to but every attack he did in his first phase was always delayed a bit longer than i expected and in his second form he just likes to go apeshit and fuck my camera to death in the process
>>323982782 It really depends on your weapon and build. Min str/skl ARC builds have the worst time with him, they HAVE to go to the chalices for gems to do any damage. The bolt gems and kin gem given just before were a cruel joke, Orphan isn't kin and everything in that area is immune or near immune to bolt.
My 16/12/50 boom hammer user killed him first try though.
>>323982816 i dunno but i personnaly died at least 30 time to ludwig, and finally had to resort to summoning to get past him. Then i did all the other bosses in 3 or less tries, but i guess it really depends on your playstyle
>>323982816 most of them are pretty easy, ludwig can be cheesed with the pizza cutter, maria is mostly a pvp fight more or less, so shes fun/hard depending on your view point of those kinds of hunter vs hunter fights.
Orphan can be hard and not hard depending on build and if you use hunters bone to spam dodges you can avoid almost all his attacks if you know his patterns
Laurence has different stories from different people, hes kinda like cleric beast if cleric beast did a lot more damage and was way more aggressive, some say he is easy others say he is bullshit.
the living failures are just an easier version of 4 kings tho
The MP is being beckoned by Mergo and the Mensis ritual, and it drops the bloodred moon in exitement (which nukes the town with beasts).
So why is it that when I kill the Wet Nurse and end the ritual, the bloodred moon doesn't disappear? If it was dropped in response to the exposed ritual, than it should relent once the ritual ends. What gives?
>>323981632 >NCP's more forgettable than the ones in Dark Soul 2 Bait >Blood Vials don't refill evetrime you rest at a lantern, despite only being able to carry 20 (more with runes) at a time. You have to buy/farm them, so you can't endesly try to fight a boss without having to go get more vials every few attempts, which could have been fixed very easily by just always giving you 20 vials or less everytine you respawn Git gud game is supoosed to center around the health recovery mechanic but most bosses 1-2 shoot you to death Level vit >story more obtuse than any other soul games, no real answers for main plot elements Literally the best so far >can't invade people who don't have summons with Who cares for pvp? >all armor set are either: a coat, a mess of plumes, or a tuxedo with a cape Play some more
>>323985407 They weren't beckoning Mergo, they already had it, he's in his crib not 200 yards away from Micolash's boss arena. The Mensis are in the Nightmare in the first place because they accidentally beckoned Mergo with an umbilical cord, and Micolash made a pact with him, like Gehrman did >the Mensis ritual involved beckoning stuff irl No. All of the Mensis staff are in the Nightmare, and their ritual is contained entirely within it. The One Reborn is not related to their plan, the witches are summoning increasingly powerful people/monsters to stop you from getting access to their boss (the Mensis), and the one reborn is their last resort >the Mensis ritual is meant to beckon the MP Micolash tells you in no uncertain terms that this isn't true, they're trying to beckon Kos. They're grabbing the MP by mistake
>>323985750 >I like spending 1400 blood echoes everytime so that instead of waiting through two load screens, I only need to wait through one to do something I could do in past games within 5 seconds and one button press
Of all the easily fixable regressions peolle defend, this one boggles my mind the most.
>dicking around in Nightmare of Mensis >Kos parasite >no milkweed, only fists >adversary Nignog has arrived >spin in place like a spaz >he returns the gesture >fighting ensues >hp critically low >run away! >he gives chase >stop abruptly, bow >he bows back >beg for life >silencing blank
I think that was my favorite pvp encounter to date.
>>323986109 Bloodborne is the best story since demon's souls, I don't get why people don't understand this, maybe its because the story doesn't beat them over the head in game, and the story makes more sense on second playthroughs as you absorb more of the lore through equipment descriptions and some npc dialogue.
But there is always the lore hounds who have taken ass loads of time to put together a summary with their own theories on the game, there is even a 100 page document someone made to explain bloodbornes story followed by his own interpretation of it, which doesn't happen with dark souls story, because for the most part its cut and dry, still a bit ambiguous of course, but less reliant on imagination and theories.
Demon's souls was the same way, but unfortunately not as many people played that so the lore hounds were few and far between to try and piece everything together for people who couldn't (or wouldn't) do it themselves.
But there is no way bloodborne has a bad story even if its just all theories, its fucking amazing even if nothing is concrete, and that's what makes it so compelling.
>>323986585 >im trash so that means the game is ruined I had 0 problems with blood vials, I was capped out from excess blood vials by the time i got to mergo's loft
I've seen some complaints, and many fair enough, but this one is beyond stupid, souls games have always and will always be about cautious play, even in bloodborne where the game is more frenetically paced.
Accept the caution and youll be swimming in excess vials
>>323987027 There is a giant snake spirit that inhabits the Nightmare. The residents of the Forbidden Woods were conducting forbidden research into summoning and controlling it. It's lore in the Madaras Whistle
>>323986816 you can piece together the games legit backstory from descriptions, which he does, he has a few paragraphs of his thoughts on the actual way things played out, thats it mostly, only some of it is head cannon
When i say he pieces it together, I mean he lays it out in summary as opposed to just quoting the descriptions the entire way, w/e fuck it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JL5acskAT_2t062HILImBkV8eXAwaqOj611mSjK-vZ8/preview?pref=2&pli=1
Well thought out headcannons are worth reading anyway, since barring miyazaki coming out and telling the story himself to you, its all you got, and some make enough sense that it could actually be the case, but grain of salt and all that
>>323986923 Wow, you must be le harcode gamer xD, just le git gud xP. Who needs good gameplay mechanics when we play le real men games? dud I bet u play call of le dudbro halo games xDDD You need to le pepper to die
Souls games aren't even that hardcore man, they all follow the same axiom
I guess I should expect nothing else from people that only played dark souls and dark souls 2, bloodborne was designed to be a spiritual successor to demon's souls, so the healing items are a capped out version of grass which requires some farming, its not estus flask shit
>want to do a tinge or arcane build >don't feel like getting through like half the game with substandard weapons before the actual good ones for my build becme available It takes too fucking long to get some of the weapons in this game, especially if you want one that you can only get after beating rape horse since good luck doing that without a +9 weapon.
>>323988446 This was my major issue with the game, and it's why I think people that advocate for a 250 pvp meta have a point, level to where everyone hits all hard caps so you can use every weapon and not get 2 shot at the same time, maybe a bit excessive, but considering you can't sequence break half the game i under 2 hours like dark souls, it looks appealing after awhile.
Otherwise you are stuck with playing your build and facing an uphill battle for 60-70% of the game til you get the one weapon that your build actually works with.
It's even a worse grind when you consider you have to grind out gems in the shitty chalice dungeons again, too.
>>323988990 those were actually the successful variation of the living failures, they were only created to help the healing church talk to ebrietas, pretty much only a few of the great ones in the game are true ayyy lamos
>>323988990 this design never even made sense to me. Why do the need to look like generic ayylmao's? Aren't they beings created by the church to communicate with the great ones or some shit? They could of chosen any other design to fit the theme of the game, and they chose goofy stumbling generic aliens.
I agree. Bloodbornes story is much better than any of the Souls games, only slightly better than Demon's. Retards cant comprehend the story because they've never seen 2001, read any actual hard science fiction novels, or know anything about Darwin outside of muh evolution.
>>323989951 >finish DaS2 >go around killing every npc to grab all their stuff like I did in DaS >start NG+ >your sins aren't forgetten and I spend all of NG+ and NG++ getting harassed by blue sentinels
>>323988420 considering half the world is already covered in demon fog, it might as well be what people consider a nightmare or dream. You could consider the headstones as archstones, and youre bound to some actual location in the demon half of the world similar to like the nexial binding You also see demons souls knight armor in the centuries old chalice dungeons.
You can have whatever head canon you want. I like linking them, personally.
>>323993114 you gotta keep in his face to keep him from casting that, the tentacle tickle is piss easy to dodge and when he casts you can always get a backstab
if you see him casting call beyond get in his face and slash him, granted youre already at close range, and it will stop him from casting. I had a lot of trouble with this fucker in NG++ you just have to keep in his face and go for cheese viscerals
>>323992815 the dream is just the place that gehrman is stuck in, while the nightmare in the DLC is where blood drunk hunters and some dead important plot characters go (maria and orphan of kos, who are both dead in the real world)
Supposedly the moon presence trapped gehrman there when he called out for help or w/e to revive maria, and instead of actual help he just got some great one fuck that wanted to fuck his day up.
Certain hunters are pulled into the dream from gehrman, he tells you to hunt the paleblood or some shit cause he hates all the great ones or wants moon presence to show up idk
Gehrman existed in the waking worlds past and he, laurence, and some others splintered off from byrgenworth academy to create the healing church and the hunter order, which was an elite squad of beast hunters that quelled the humans that turned into monsters after receiving treatment, quietly.
Eventually old yarhnam happened and they disbanded the old hunters (gehrmans group), and a few generations passed and ludwig showed up and basically militarized the populace, hence why you see half turned hunters attacking you in the streets at the start. Ludwig dealt with the problem not with assassinations, but outright force but arming the population, and that called for "hunting nights" more or less.
>>323993421 I'm kind of here. I platinum the game recently after months of playing it. I wanted to do a new build, which would be only my 3rd build, but going through everything, clearing out shit, getting short cuts, running all around, whatever. Just don't wanna.
>>323993925 No. The Old Blood Laurence passed around did that. No the Great Ones find surrogates when the Paleblood Moon descends. Everyone in town begins to go mad and a few chosen women randomly find themselves pregnant with alien babies. Some take it better than others. And yes that does mean that the red moon is a signal that alien god beings are getting laid.
>>323993925 It's heavily implied the werewolf stuff was in us all along and the blood is unlocking our natural potential. That doesn't have much to do with the aliens other than that we use their blood to do it.
>>323992834 theory goes that nightmares draw on what you know. Everyone in the nightmare contributes to what exists within it. The nightmare eye ladies have the dolls clothes on because that's what you remember, same with the birds and dogs. I think it might be kinda a joke because the crows you see in other areas sound kinda like rabid dogs. It's not like anyone took the time to summon dog birds as guards or anything, just your subconscious making it real in the nightmare.
Maybe cuz the two other nightmares/dreams have gods in them, they aren't so susceptible to changes from the player character. But since the ayy lmao in the hunters' nightmare is only a child, your mind affects it more, making it look like areas you have already explored
>Buy BB >Had played DaS and DaS2 and SotFS prior >Friend is talking mad shit after I kill the Cleric Beast >"Yeah one of my characters is modeled after the next boss you fight, he's going to fuck you up." >Find Gas-can's boss room >Badass intro >Fight begins >Immediately visceral him twice and follow up with a combo >He transforms >Wow this dude isn't fucking around >Two more viscerals and a molotov for the coup de grace >He shot me twice, never landed a melee
My friend said beginner's luck, I told him to go fuck himself, easy fight for such a badass character
>mfw I didn't even know what the music box was supposed to do until after I had beaten Micolash
NPC fights in souls games are unfair as fuck. Just the other day I dropped a Lightning Spear on a npc invader face for 112 damage. Not even bothered by it, he Great Soul Arrowed me for half the HP bar.
So I accidentally killed Patches because of my fear of spiders. What stuff does he do to trick you anyway? I saw that he did the same trick he does in the other games, where he puts down a trail of shiny stuff for you to follow. But he didn't do anything to me when I picked up the item.
>>323996463 the curse mostly affects the hunters, because the desecrated the people of the fishing hamlet, ripping through their skulls looking for eyes on their brains
Maria threw her weapon into the well and killed herself to get away from it, her quote about leaving a dead body alone is mostly referring to the orphan of kos (where the umbilical cords come from in the waking world).
Simon in the dlc mentions as he lay dying, that we (hunters) shouldn't have to bear the sins of the father forever, it isn't fair.
The population just turn because of the blood transfusions that are happening, not everyone does though, at least until the end of the game when people stop answering the doors when you knock on them
The blood of old ones is cursed, period. Administering it to oneself repeatedly will inevitably lead to beasthood.
The true way to ascension is through the study of the Great Ones voices, transcribing their language, gaining Insight into the way they manipulate the universe. Even this is not a guarantee, however. You are far more likely to simply turn into a Kin instead.
The Church knew this, but didn't want the knowledge to spread. Instead they used Ebrietas' blood on the greater populace, to gain control of them and the city itself, to further their true research.
And then somewhere in the middle the Cainhursts found their own source of blood in the Pthumerian tombs, not from Ebrietas, that had its own transformative properties - still including a "beasthood" of sorts, but some individuals became undying abominations instead of gigantic beasts.
>>323994923 >>323995193 >>323997402 Isn't the hunter's nightmare in the past? Hence why you see Laurence in his beast form in the DLC and see his skull in vanilla. Same way you fight Maria but she's dead in the real world. Also how you fight Ludwig, but he's dead in the real world.
Again, seeing Valtr without his helmet and also having both of his eyes.
>started NG+ >look at all the things I missed in my first playthrough blood rock many optional bosses 3rd umbilical certain npc quests
I'm mostly mad about the blood rock and umbilical, since those were in my control. I don't want to go through certain portions again, since they suck so much ass such as: the forest, shadows of yharnam, reunlocking all the shortcuts, and Rom. Rom isn't even that hard to fight, it's those damn kamakaze spiders that have high face defense and the sheer number of them. I did one attempt with the summon for that fight to see how long the guys lasts. He may have soul mass, but that did beans for damage and he got annihilated by Rom's crystal rain.
>>323997735 as far as I know the nightmare is just a place where the "lost" go, blood drunk hunters and the like, and lingering dead souls
It's not the past, at least I don't think so, because of how the nightmare is formed, like having the fishing hamlet behind the astral clocktower where you fight maria, also if you look around marias room you can see her own coffin hanging there.
>>323998138 that's because it isnt a blood weapon like chikage, maria was a vileblood (hence her tall stature and pale skin and white hair), the blood abilities were her own, and she used rakuyo in the waking world because she despised her own blood magic capabilities
Why she uses them on you in the nightmare? Maybe to keep you from the fishing hamlet, I don't know.
>>323997735 The Nightmare was created as a curse by Kos after he died. All of those involved with his death would be trapped in the Hunters Nightmare. Ludwig took part in the slaughtering of the fishing village, so he becomes trapped there after his death. Maria was involved too so she goes there after she killed herself. Laurence ordered it in the first place so that's why you find him there. The other Hunters helped in the slaughter so they too are trapped there. The only reason Gherman isn't there is because he's obviously trapped in the Hunter's Dream by Moon Presence. So yes, it takes place in the "past" but it's a twisted memory of the past.
I'm trying to figure out more about the Hunter in the Grand Cathedral who fucks up Eileen. There HAS to be something more to him than random hunter.
>when you enter the Cathedral, the way he's just standing there with his arms held out to his sides, then slowly lowers them as you approach >unlimited healing ANYTIME you try to back away >parries like a pro >can't even be cheesed after the patch
>>323998786 his name is the bloody crow, its heavily implied he is a blood drunk hunter of hunters, of which there is only supposed to be one at a time of, so maybe her mentor
The lore as I'm aware of it at least, is that hunter of hunters are sort of outsourced individuals that have hardly any connection to the actual shop, so they can easily do their job without feeling remorse
Even if there is more than one at a time, that would still be why she says the score is personal and hers to settle
>>323998786 He's a pretty odd hunter considering he wields a chicago and wears a Cainhurst helmet, yet, wields a repeating pistol which is a church hunter weapon and on top of that he wears the attire of a hunter of hunters and possesses a old hunter's bone. In my headcannon, he's just a reflection of a player who just wears and equips whatever works for him.
>>323978148 What? I killed Gascoigne easily, first try as well with no music box. Non dlc wise Shadows of Yharnam gave me the most trouble, embarrassingly enough. Looking back they pretty much felt like the skeleton lords from ds2. I'm fucking dreading some of the later chalice bosses though.
>>323994148 I'm usually running around in a Cainhurst knight set with the crown but I've switching to the Choir set with the Moonlight GS or the Constable set with a top hat, pistol and the whirligig saw in the mace form pretending I'm a British police officer.
