It just is not an interesting story. The characters are lame. I can't stand the protagonist. Yuna is the worst female character ever made.

Here is what I remember. Tidus is a dream turned into a reality because of the aeons dreaming. Sin is always replaced by the summoners body guard who then kills the summoner. Yuna and co. broke the cycle because they killed all the aeons which also meant erasing the Tidus they knew. Also Tidus dad was Sin because somehow he knew Yuna's dad in the future or some shit. Auron was also a ghost time traveler.

Now that I think about it I don't understand either.

because none of the characters are designed to be self inserts. ffix has a self contained story. everyone has a role, a background, and the flow of events make sense.

On the other hand, FFX's story ultimately fails for the same reason FFV did. The main character is designed to be a self-insert blank slate thats just along for the ride, but at the same time he gets pushed into relationships and happenings that feel unnatural. There's very little reason to take some crazy kid along on a pilgrimage to kill yourself. Before you reach zanarkand, he is a literal retard in terms of the world's common sense and is complete dead weight. The relationship between him and yuna is completely forced, shes just desperate for anyone and bam , there you are. Mr. Dense retard ready and willing to give her the D because HAAHAAHAA.

Remove tidus from the story, and the story still works.

Tifa? Nah. Tifa did jack shit. She was there for 'muh tits' and little else. Her story arc was basically just the writers shoehorning her into a storyline she had literally no reason to be in. Auron wasn't a time traveller he was in Spira alongside Braska, a monk that became Braska's guardian. Sin sends him to Dream Zanarkand at the start of the game to fetch Tidus. As far as I know Dream Zanarkand is actually in Spira, it's just so far out of the way Sin would likely stop anyone who nears it

Tidus narrated as you went along. I won't call him a great character, but him acting all dumb and looking back on it was hardly a blank slate. And x's story was completely straightforward. They go to zanarkand, and Seymour fucks shit up from time to time. They were gonna leave tidus in Luca but auron showed up and made him come.

Besides, ff9's story was just a shitty, edgy version of iv with some Vi and Vii mixed in. Half that games cast was unnecessary. Did we really need freya to suffer losing her entire species AND FIND out her lover forgot her, only to be completely dropped? Were amarant and quina important at all? Ff9 was just a string of tragedy to build up to ff4's plot twist.

Yuna dies, Sin eventually comes back, the cycle continues. The whole point of Tidus being there was him questioning the religion left and right. Yeah he didn't know a lot, but it wasn't the world he knew and the only thing he could say when people acted like he should know is "Sin's toxin".

Without him being there, they don't even begin to get the idea to end the cycle.
