I played doom in the late 90's and thought it was kinda shit. Then again i didn't understand that it was supposed to be played like a FAST game and i'd go through it slowly and carefully like Rainbow Six which just came out and i was completely obsessed with. Later on i got into Quake 3 and played the shit out of that but i could really never appreciate Doom or other similar early FPS games like Duke Nukem or Shadow Warrior no matter how hard i tried. Early 3d FPS games with 2d sprites never really did anything for me which is weird because i played the fuck out of Wing Commander 1 and 2 and enjoyed them thouroghly as well as the X-Wing/Tie Fighter games.

I opened the game 3 times and each time it was different. I fucking loved that game. Excellent execution of an old but interesting idea. Halo is, or was, the only big exclusive that the Xbox had. The first console would have been dead on arrival if not for Combat Evolved.
