No competition, really.
PSO is far and above better than everything else, even Halo 1-3 (they are good too though)
Without having played it even you can feel a sence of nostalgia and wonder.
the original dragon's dogma is also neat
I liked it but wouldn't say it's one of the best.
I like ones with good music or ones that lead directly into the game from the menu itself
>Not posting the best menu with the best music
I'll 1 up you
>don't remmember any of these
try not posting throw away trash please
I remember one of the first community fixes for Half Life 2 was the one that stopped it loading entire levels to be little more than a static background for the main menu. Took the load time for the main menu from minutes down to seconds.
Post some menu music
>that nurse freaking out
>screen goes to black
>nurse says "V has come to."
>computerized voice went "V-V-V- then the iDroid can be heard saying the same line, showing the title
>iDroid's closing sound and the screen turns like pic related
I didn't particularly like the game, but i liked this main menu and how the conclave was destroyed when you picked a new game.
Let's talk about nonmemorable menus too! Bonus points if it's an expensive game with dull menu.
For this I'd list Modern Warfares, they pretty much had just this greyish background with buttons in the left side.
>that piano interlude halfway through
>that swelling orchestra
Halo 1-3 truly had some of the greatest vidya soundtracks known to man
What, you guys don't like cool statues with comfy music?
>Halo 4 doesn't even have the starting choir
this thread only proves to me that /v/ is full of casual plebs now
personally, the age of empires 2 menu theme and interface is just undeletable from my brain
Warcraft 3 also comes to mind
Nice simple game with a lot of feels but AI is kinda dumb and the game is short
The graphics were appealing and the puzzle parkour was 8/10
can´t find a decent screenshot
I want to go back to more simpler times
Hard to say if it's memorable since it's only 1.5 years old, but I love it.
>no Civ IV
It's like you guys don't even baba yetu yetu uliye mbinguni yetu, yetu amina
>this comes up
>get so fucking excited for the rest of the game
>mfw the rest of the game
>Not Prince of Edge instead
every thing fit the theme of that game perfectly
one of my favorite games of all time
so fucking grim
I dont know if we'll ever get it for windows. I want it, but I know 343 will make it, and they'll bundle it with 4 and 5 so we HAVE to buy their shitty shit. I don't want to give them money for their abortions.
343, if you're reading this, and you plan on bringing Halo to Windows, 1-3 needs to be by themselves or sold individually. No one wants to give you money for 4 or 5.
Halo 3 showed up in the steam database a few years back but disappeared.
Nice, if there's one thing I always liked about Halo games, it's the music.
>I will never see this running on my desktop
Not exactly the main menu, but very memorable nonetheless: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJe1BoyQDI8
Because that fucking menu had more personality than anything in MGSV.
IT'S NOW OR NEVER
I appreciate that you took the time to make this webbum anon
that fucking sfx when you choose an option
Civ IV had great music all around; some of the best in video games. To disagree, you must have to be some /pol/ shitposter, or otherwise some needlessly edgy contrarian.
Modern era is GOAT:
a qt? no no no you can't say that anon, that's sexual harassment.
joking aside her songs are pretty good but she can't sing for shit live
>dont like a song
>i must be pol or edgy
that's some spicy shitposting friend.
dont post more music I know what it sounds like and I never said I disliked civ4's music
I just don't like baba yetu because I dislike the africa gaia style.
Chill your autism asian lady
if only not for the excessive milking, this would've been the perfect nostalgia game
>you are now hearing the music
i love halo 3 but how is that memorable?
THIS is memeorable.
One of the best Star Wars games.
Couldn't save Sev
Truly amazing game senpaitachi
how has this not been posted yet? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtMllWsML5M
>tfw you thought Sonic was finally back after Sonic Colors and Generations
What went wrong again?
Not one of the most memorable main menus, but it'll stick with me until the end of time.
FUCK ITS ALL COMING BACK
Sorry for the shit resolution, but here's one of my favorites
and I'm sure it's one of yours too
Goddamn, i still have it installed on my hard drive.
Also few versions of ChaosUT and over 40 Gigs of maps, models and voicepacks and other mods. This game was the shit. Still playing it from time to time.
Yeah I just uploaded this shit only for this thread but it's a shame that Temple of Elemental Evil is never mentioned.
It has great atmosphere, nice creepy music goin and it tells a story without some sensless action in the background.
THE best main menu in my opinion.
Also soundtrackfags gtfo. This is a main menus thread not a soundtrack thread.
>That chilling theme
>That decrepit menu
>That comfy warm fire to keep you company
>That bleak backdrop past the crumbling wall
The first time I started this game up, I knew it was going to be worth it.
And it was
truly the most stirring soundtrack in all of vidya
Also I have no idea how I didn't immediately remember this one.
WEISS YOU DUMBASS
Then Halo 4 and 5 went on to be generic sci-fi bullshit and taking away the fun and atmosphere of the original trilogy.
Why did they replace the theme with music you won't remember? Why?
What the hell you guys
I like the other side of that case better
so many good memories, damn that was so long ago...
>Playing all of them at the same time
Can you still hear the music, /v/...?
Also pic related.
Fun menu, and with such a unique track (like all of the ones in the game).
>Halo 3 Mythic
ODST and the Mythic era were Halo's golden age. Halo 3 had the best multiplayer, best community and ODST made up in the singleplayer where Halo 3 fell behind. Plus firefight. Then there was all that Reach hype.
Damn it, what happened to Bungie?
Destiny was meant to be the true Halo sequel. The game that would carry the spirit of both Marathon and Halo.
It was gonna be Bungie's magnum opus
The menu itself isn't that memorable but the orchestrated fairy fountain theme more than makes up for it
I played doom in the late 90's and thought it was kinda shit. Then again i didn't understand that it was supposed to be played like a FAST game and i'd go through it slowly and carefully like Rainbow Six which just came out and i was completely obsessed with. Later on i got into Quake 3 and played the shit out of that but i could really never appreciate Doom or other similar early FPS games like Duke Nukem or Shadow Warrior no matter how hard i tried. Early 3d FPS games with 2d sprites never really did anything for me which is weird because i played the fuck out of Wing Commander 1 and 2 and enjoyed them thouroghly as well as the X-Wing/Tie Fighter games.
There's your >(You) are you happy now?
>your fucking face when
the final boss theme of KH3 is a remix of Dearly Beloved
>what happened to Bungie?
they signed up with Activision
think about it, ever since they did, a lot of shit started happening.
they had to re-do the entire story for Destiny
core members left
marty was sued by bungie (marty won the case, he's also starting his own game studio I think)
Bungie became another shitty developer.
There are a few you can get on the PC. I'm currently playing PSOBB Ultima. They did some weird shit like triple the xp rate, but it's a neat little private server.
I know SCHTHACK is coming back, but that'll probably take awhile.
I just can't believe they were dumb enough to win their "freedom" from Microsoft (Who they were the golden gooses for) to strike out on their own, then sold their asses straight off to Activision, quite possibly the only parent company worse than EA or Microsoft.
I almost say it's their fault they and their ideas got torn apart.
>slow orchestral shit
>then the fucking drums kick in
I remember it being pretty noice.
Say what you want, this was a damn cool menu.
Apparently some other pieces from that game sound disturbingly similar to other music from other media.
I remember shortly after launch some people were complaining that the song they sing on that mountain after Haven is exactly like the one from LOTR.
>The Halo 3 main menu melody
I don't know why the fuck Bungie fired Marty. They aren't going to get anyone comparable again.
343 didn't kill the franchise.
Reach ENDED the franchise. That was it. The final Bungie game in the Halo series, meant to cap off the games we loved by letting us BE on Reach as it fell.
343 resurrected it. Took a fulfilled soul and brought it back from it's peaceful sleep, and make it it's puppet.
Yeah that's prosey as fuck but it's true.
>Those glimmers of Halo's punchy dialogue and Marathon's weird mystic sci-fi that appear from time to time
You can tell what Staten wrote. It has the Bungie charm. The intern stuff doesn't.
I opened the game 3 times and each time it was different. I fucking loved that game. Excellent execution of an old but interesting idea. It does forces you on a path but I personally just rolled with it and had a great time. Lots of little details and lots of "oh shit" moments. Really felt like a warzone (most of the time).
Shit son, I wasn't ready for this.
It was never going to end. It never will.
Bungie wanted to end it with 3. They couldn't, so they extended it to Reach and jumped ship.
Halo is, or was, the only big exclusive that the Xbox had. The first console would have been dead on arrival if not for Combat Evolved. It's still a major exclusive for Microsoft, they're not going to let it go anytime soon. Though 343i are so hilariously incompetent that they might actually manage to kill Halo.
>you'll see 343 kill Halo in your life time
God fucking damnit, knowing I'll never play CGs again actually contributes pretty heavily to my depression. Halo 3 got me through a really shitty time in my life.
Guess I'll play some campaign when I get home this weekend from Uni but every time I do I find myself feeling cynical and looking for problems in a game that doesn't deserve scorn.
I hate what this board has made me into. Or maybe vidya really has just gotten shitty.
Say what you will about the games as fighters but the Persona fighting games have baller as fuck menus.
Always hyped for more Shimomura music
After I finished the third one, I went back to listen to this.
The faces in the background were like flashback imagery and the music took me back into a more innocent time.
I was going to post that.
So many hours on that game trying new maps with friends.
Replaying through the series right now. Can't say I'll be happy when it ends.
There was so much promise. So much.
It was going to be the Star Wars of our generation.
I haven't bought an EA game since I finished the crushing let down that was the Mass Effect 3 ending. Their aggressive dlc and shit irked me, but the way they ruined mass effect for me just ruined my trust in them.
>tfw it got replaced by a bombastic one once you beat the main story
Why? It was perfect!
Me neither, when people post on here about how good Origin is and about how much they're enjoying Battlefield, I always feel a little bit of revulsion. I question why any of these people would willingly install Origin onto their PCs let alone play a post-2012 EA game.
It took time anon. It took me 3 years to replay games that I had been playing almost every year since 2007.
I bought the games on steam during the winter sale. The way they deliver DLC is so atrocious that there's no complete version of any of the games, so I just pirated the DLC and ME3.
There's a happy ending mod that allows Shepard to survive and add a few extra scenes. I haven't finished the game with the mod, but it looks promising.
I just hope Andromeda doesn't ruin ME more.
i liked the camera fly in this menu and ofc music
was the best game on the 360. period. i would love to run it on my computer.
>Halo 4 3rd in sales
>despite selling that much it dipped down below Reach in player base and at one point Halo 3 had more active players
Please just take Chief off the life support. Let the series die before all of it's goodwill is gone.
>mfw Halo 2 nostalgia
>mfw leaving it running on the menu in 2005 and 2006
>mfw the slow music kicks in
>mfw remembering early Xbox Live and my youth
Even just looking at the fucking main menu for Halo 3 reminds me of how much better Bungie's campaigns were than 343s. Halo 2 and 3 are the best console shooters ever.
multiplayer in 5 is pretty good though, and the campaign was a small step up from 4
Couldn't find a decent photo for the original Rome main menu but Attila pays homage to it and is pretty much the same. Also, Attila has the best theme
>they signed up with Activision
annnd thats where it all goes downhill
anything to do with max payne 1-2-3 all have my favorite main menus
top tier game music right here. that intro makes you want to punch 1,000 babies
Bit disappointed nobody posted this.
Showed off how great the graphics of the game were too. Those beautiful smooth edges.
This was nice (especially since they let you skip the animations if you wanted to - the devs were quite player friendly it seemed).
Had a lot of good memories with Halo 3. It had the best community out of any multiplayer game on the 360. I remember playing hours of custom games in full 16 player lobbies from total strangers that would invite you out of the blue. Those strangers would become good friends. I miss that about Halo. 343 fucked up the community big time. Too bad they will never recapture that magic.
Godlike title screen, perfectly suited to the game and just oozed style. Amazing, fitting music too.
Better served in motion:
I am not even a Zelda fan yet that was most likely one of my favorite main menu music.
